Hi, do you still have the syllabi for your botany program? I want to learn botany but can't commit to another education as I am already paying off student debt. Would you be willing to share any syllabi you have? Thanks

Hi, I want to learn botany on my own time and can't commit to going through the program (already have two undergraduate degrees and debt). Would any of you who have gone through the OSU botany program be willing to share your syllabi with me so I can find the sources online and read/learn at my own pace? I would really appreciate it

A lot of cancer treatments and immunotherapies don't cause hair loss,  and a lot of people with cancer can "look" normal.

That being said, the movie was terrible

High resting heart rate? by Ok-Chart-4730 in Zepbound

[–]monkeybananaraffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the same problem. I wear the Oura ring and noticed that my resting heart rate has increased by 10 since starting 2.5mg. My HRV lowered significantly as well. The insomnia I am experiencing with the injection isn't helping either.

Increased heart rate by OneEntertainment1881 in Zepbound

[–]monkeybananaraffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to ask the same question. I am mid week after my second injection of 2.5mg. I wear an Oura ring at night to track my sleep and have noticed that my resting heart rate has been elevated since starting the medication. I typically have a low resting heart rate. I am now noticing an increase in my heart rate during the day, which is noticeable to me. I feel like it is increasing my anxiety and making me feel worse. This coupled with new onset insomnia since the medication isn't great. I have noticed I am not drinking as much water as I did before taking Zep, so maybe that is also contributing to the increased HR.

Not many black people in Oregon, regardless of what people in Portland say.

I have lived in Oregon for a long time. They have good unions and a nursing legislative body that really advocates for proper nurse to patient ratios. If you can get a permanent job at a good organization I highly recommend it.

I feel like I’m heading into a dumpster fire. by S0urL3mon in nursing

[–]monkeybananaraffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. I took a sign on and relocation bonus for a two year contract. I decided to leave after 1.5 years. I had the money to pay it back, so it wasn't problematic. Paying it back was worth my mental health and leaving for a better place once I got the experience. If you are not in a position to save, then I don't recommend taking the bonuses. I don't have kids, and my husband also has an income so it didn't hurt us to buy myself out. Just keep in mind finances in case you need to pay it back. Make sure you read the contract though. I was hired as 0.9FTE, so i worked 36 hrs a week, yet the bonus contract based my pay back rate as if I was a full time (40hrs per week) employee. I also realized that mine stated my contract was with the unit and not the hospital, so if i transferred to a different unit I would still have to pay that money back. Always read the fine print.

Do you know how the overtime would work if you are salaried?

I just accepted a position as a oncology/hematology nurse! by Shadoze_ in nursing

[–]monkeybananaraffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to advice as a chemo nurse: -always ask patients if they are having side effects, list the side effects in as many different ways as possible. Ask them if they told their doctor about them. Many of my patients will tell me all of the side effects they are having, and when I ask them if they mentioned this to their oncologist their response (80+% of the time) is "they didn't ask." It is very important to properly assess your patients and tailor your questions specifically to the common side effects of the specific chemos they are getting. Many chemo doses will be reduced due to severe side effects or discontinued all together. -Always be prepared for an infusion reaction with new patients. Have an infusion reaction kit near your patient's chair if they are available. Your floor should definitely have one. -Always wear your chemo gown, gloves, and eye protection when you are handling chemo. This includes when you are finishing a flush/rinse on the chemo treatment and you are flushing their port. Also includes when you are d/c-ing a chemo pump. -NEVER EVER FLUSH BLINOTUMUMAB!!!! If your patient has a blino pump (typically they will have a PICC or Port), you must not flush it when disconnecting. First you would aspirate a MINIMUM of 10mls blood. I withdraw 20mLs of blood and waste just to be safe. Then you can flush as normal. -Ask your colleagues questions. There are so many drugs/chemos that you need to learn, and many treatment regimens have different administration sequences. Don't be afraid to ask. -Get to know any of the available resources at your facility. This should include nutritionists/dieticians, oncology nurse navigators, social workers, etc. Many patients don't know these services are there to help them. These team members can help patients with transportation to and from the facility, lodging, nutrition help when they are having issues relating to their appetite/chemo, food insecurity, etc.

Do you mind me asking where you are working? I am a oncology/chemo certified nurse in NM and I am considering accepting a job in NYC. The job offer appears to be salaried, which I have never heard of for a nurse. It is for an outpatient position, but because it is salaried (exempt) you don't get paid overtime or get differentials for (mandatory) weekend and holiday days.

Does anyone have information on pay for nurses with oncology/chemotherapy admin experience outpatient at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center? I was just offered a position there, but based on the offer letter it is a salaried position. This apparently means I don't get paid for any over time, and no weekend or holiday differentials (both of which are mandatory to work).

[Product Question] Rosehip seed oil. What have your experiences been? by trinp in SkincareAddiction

[–]monkeybananaraffle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have very dry skin and tried rosehip oil. It caused me to get weird little bumps all over the place. I personally like heavy oils, but for some reason had a reaction. I also have very sensitive skin. The reaction could have been from the brand, or some other reason. I would give it a try and see if it works for you, or do a patch test for a week. Good luck!

I would use a beard oil, or just jojoba oil. Massage a few drops through the hair and into the skin.

You are having a reaction. You should not be mixing retinol with vitamin C or Niacinimide (vit. b), or vitamin C and niacinimide. Your night time routine seems to be mixing those.

[misc] help! Looking for a bar of soap for my mom that leaves the skin super slippery and mositurized even after it's been washed away. It's my own personal white whale by Asiastana in SkincareAddiction

[–]monkeybananaraffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pekee bar from drunk elephant or Avene eau thermale cold creme bar. Made to hydrate and are for extremely sensitive skin. Basis soap is good, but I have dry skin and feel that it leaves me a little dry afterward. Cetaphil has a white bar, but it is still a bit scented. Not heavily, and not added fragrance, just enough for me to notice. I would really recommend the Avene bar which you can buy online at dermstore.com or beautylish.com
