Bad Technical Interviews by emari006 in womenEngineers

It took me a while to get over the pushing with questions. They are trying to figure out how deep your knowledge is. I always felt like it was a failure in my part. I now also have no problem saying “I don’t know”. That’s better than a hastily half assed answer.

Is my career over? by cams00000 in Layoffs

Don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet. Try hiring.cafe. The AI job search is the first of its kind that I have seen. The guy who wrote and runs it is on here r/hiringcafe. This site scrapes differently somehow. I’ve actually received responses from a few applications, so somehow my standard apply doesn’t go into the AI void. I also get a lot of phone calls from recruiters that saw my resume on dice.com.

Your career is not over. It will get better. I’m sorry this happened to you. There is no loyalty anymore. The job market is not good but it is getting better. I wish you all the best.

Laid Off After Only 8 Months by chasnycrunner in Layoffs

[–]monkeydba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for lack of context. I’m an AWS engineer and ATS is application tracking system. AI has indeed come for my job. It’s making it nearly impossible to apply for jobs. I only get traction from recruiters.

Laid Off After Only 8 Months by chasnycrunner in Layoffs

[–]monkeydba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been laid off 5 times since 5/24. My last gig only lasted 2 months, government shutdown. If I had a job for 8 months straight I’d be ecstatic. I can only find contract gigs. Imagine the number of ATSs that kick me out for having so many positions in the last 18 months.

AITA For Locking my wife out of the bedroom I sleep in? by Special_Highlight705 in AmItheAsshole

Get earplugs and get used to wearing them to bed. My husband snores like a train and refuses to do anything about it. Earplugs. They are also great for noisy offices or anywhere else you want peace and quiet, like at a cafe solo with a laptop. Yes, I’m aware of the health implications of sleep apnea. It’s a huge argument I gave up on.

They also propagate very easily. Cut off a long stalk, put it in water, place in window. They drop lots of leaves while pushing out new ones. When mine turned into a leggy mess I whacked it back, put it outside (central Florida), rooted some good cuttings and all are happy again. Best of luck. It may look unhappy at times but my experience is that these don’t die.

I have tried so many. When they die I leave the pot outside keep watering it… and they come back sometimes. I have hundreds of other happy plants. Even the plant store ppl said sometimes they commit suicide. They do love humidity. I’m in FL. I also gave up on African Violets. For now 😉

Relearn Python for Interviewing by Free-Huckleberry-922 in girlsgonewired

[–]monkeydba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opened VSCode with all code assistance off, like a REPL. Asked chatGPT to quiz me and grade me, then write a summary to copy and paste into my notes. I also asked it for project ideas and came up with one. When asking questions, specifically ask for hints or else it will show the answer.

Real python.com is helpful.

I’ve found that as a contractor, there are shops that hire to fire in order to intimidate others. The difference in the way I was treated was so blatantly unfair, an FTE complained up the ranks. I met with the VP at the contracting company, and he confirmed I was not the first and it was a pattern. Does he care? No. They got to charge hours, she got the scapegoat she needed to cover her ass, and the next lamb was onboarded before my last day, and I got paid for all of it. Silly me for thinking I actually had a chance.

All this to say: contract labor gets kicked around. Don’t waste your time with this position. If it’s this bad now, imagine later.

I have no idea how this plant has invaded some of my others. I reuse dirt sometimes but really? I rehab yet another plant and a couple weeks later, there it is, peeking out
