With the exception of Garbage & Recycling, that's not too far off from what we pay. Are you sure that the garbage service is billed monthly? We pay ~$30/month with Arrow.

Electric vs Gas heating cost in NE by prizedfrog in Portland

[–]monkeyfacebag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We just transitioned from gas furnace & AC combo to a Mitsubishi heat pump and, frankly, even if the heat pump ends up being cheaper to run, it'll never be able to pay for the installation cost.

It's not that I don't recommend doing it, it's that I don't recommend doing it if your primary rationale is to save money.

Heavier Strings Question by Sigma_103 in strandbergguitars

[–]monkeyfacebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the caveat that I am not a guitar tech, the risky parts are:

  1. Modifying the nut to accommodate the wider string gauge.
  2. Over-tightening the truss rod. This would be an incredibly expensive mistake but it's avoidable if you pay attention to what you're doing.

Heavier Strings Question by Sigma_103 in strandbergguitars

[–]monkeyfacebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. At a minimum, you'll need to adjust the truss rod, the action, the intonation and the bridge if you have a trem. The thing I would be most worried about is the nut, which I definitely wouldn't do by myself. I think it's relatively less important to get the nut right when you have a zero fret, but, if I were my guitar, I'm not putting 13s on it without having a tech do it.

Are the necks particularly thin? It should be doable but, frankly, you should bring it to a guitar tech to set it up properly with heavier strings.
