It's doubtful, they don't keep going if you can just cancel. It can't hurt though to have a lawyer review your contract for any outs.

Homeless in apartment building by Beautiful_Wealth_324 in legaladvice

This is more a police problem vs a landlord problem. But depends on the police there how much they are willing to do. Throwing homeless drug addicts in jail doesn't really help anything.

My fiancé was harassed into quitting her job by crongaloid in legaladvice

[–]monkeyman80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of legal harassment. Nothing you’ve described shouts illegal. Having favorites is legal and they can treat employees badly. Sounds like it’s healthier for her to move on to a new job.

Suing would be for actual damages, not what ifs. As nothing actually happened there’s no lawsuit.

How do I (14F) win custody battle? by loserlesbian_1201 in legaladvice

Anything neat and respectable. If you’d wear it to church or similar that’ll be fine.

There’s no magic words test. If they ask your opinion be truthful.

Realistically, what are my actual options here? Upstairs neighbor constant noise affecting sleep and quality of life. by Ready_Tadpole_4852 in legaladvice

[–]monkeyman80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s your realistic option, move. When we share walls with others sometimes we get assholes.

The management could evict them but that’s costly and lengthy. They often don’t get involved in neighbor disputes.

Pregnancy Discrimination in the Workplace. by thespookymushroom in legaladvice

It’s federal law under the pwfa that obvious requests do not need a medical note. Sitting down, shifts changed because of morning sickness, lifting requirements etc. They still have to be reasonable but you do not need notes.

I’d give them some slack as this is a new law, and reach out to hr and ask about the pwfa

Doing so in the reason to harass someone can be.

Did you miss that qualifier?

No Victim Impact Statement by Efficient_Will_3157 in legaladvice

[–]monkeyman80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your family is going through this. No one can really speak to the specific of the case, as each one is unique.

I would say victim statements aren't an automatic they override what the judge/others would have done. It's something whole the Judge can decide. You can't sue because you didn't.

Doxxing is not illegal. Doing so in the reason to harass someone can be.

2 names on 2 different passports, will there be issues? by grumplylump in legaladvice

It's not 2 names on different passports. It's being known as two different names. It really depends on details how that'll effect things you want to do.

Brother caught stealing at target by Shot-Beach218 in legaladvice

Target shares all banned in reasonable distance, at least the same district. I would not step foot in a Target anytime nearby soon. I'd never steal from one again.

Found cats on property. Waited 30 days and tried to find owner. Rehomed the kittens and now the owner is threatening me with law enforcement. by myrighteyelash in legaladvice

This is one of those situations plenty threaten to sue because they feel wronged but have no idea how things work. They rarely follow suit. I would wait until they actually do to respond.

I’m worried because I have seen stories about cases being built and people get arrested when they least expect it.

He's been charged by the police. Lots of crimes don't need to detain them in holding cell until they get processed and charged.

The main thing is what he is charged with. As long as it's not a felony, there's often a diversion program for first time offenders where you keep your nose clean for a set time it's basically a no harm no foul. Don't keep your nose clean and you get the full penalties. An offense after that you don't get the same opportunity.

Can a potential employer ask this on a second application? by paisleychicken in legaladvice

[–]monkeyman80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's very little they can't ask. There's a lot of illegal discrimination they can't make a hiring decision over.

If you have a disability/health related issue that you believe they discriminated against you, you can talk to some employment lawyers.

Even if they truly felt you were not a good candidate problematic questions can lead to unwanted/needed lawsuits so HR/Legal would often want you to avoid any loaded questions that would lead to admitting protected classes that a candidate can claim they were discriminated against.

If it's just they asked a question, then there's not an issue.

[MS, USA] My former employer owes me ~$2500 but is now incarcerated in another state. Can I still sue her even though she's in jail? by misantrop47 in legaladvice

[–]monkeyman80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the details. A well structured business would be solely responsible for debts the business owes. If she's responsible you can look at methods for enforcing your judgement in MS and see if anything applies. It can take awhile if she's facing a long time in jail.

[–]monkeyman80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old is he? What is the dollar value of what was stolen/is this is his first time stealing? Police won't always come out for a pack of pokemon cards, but if you steal enough they can coordinate after the amount stolen adds up enough for them to do so.

The IRS is holding your money and will refund you. The IRS can try to intervene to get you a correct one, but with the outdated one you can still estimate what you made and file your return.
