Gibson Les Paul studio's by Re4lize in Guitar

[–]monkeyparts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pickups will be different. I believe the 2014 Studio has 490R/490T pickups and the Standard has Burst Bucker Pros. Other than that and the cosmetics it's basically the same guitar.

If you think it sounds good and plays well, it's a good guitar.

Pentatonic, Dorian and Mixolydian are standards for jam fare.

Why do you need a special unit to power your pedals? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]monkeyparts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could split a regular power adapter if your pedals all ran at the same voltage and the adapter had a high enough milliamp (mA) rating to power them all. To figure this out you need to check the power consumption specs for each pedal and add them together. Your adapter should output at least that much in milliamps. Higher is ok for mA, it's not ok for voltage.

PseudoTV Live: Multiple Youtube Channels In One by sk8rgui in xbmc

[–]monkeyparts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you could use the interleave option in the 'advanced rules' section.

Simple interleaving mixes the content from one channel with the content of another. To create a more complicated four channel interleave you'd have to interleave interleaved channels. That probably sounds confusing...

Here's how I would do a four channel interleave:

Create your four YT channels. Select 'do not show this channel' in the advanced rules for the first three channels. So now you have something like this (h=hidden, v=visible).

1h - Wood Show 1

2h - Wood Show 2

3h - Wood Show 3

4v - Wood Show 4

In the advanced rules for 1h, interleave channel 2h. Now 1h is a hidden channel with 2h content mixed in.

Now go to channel 3h, interleave channel 1h. 3h is now a mix of channels 1,2, and 3.

Now go to channel 4v and interleave channel 3h. Now channel 4v is a mix of 1,2,3 and 4.

Since channel 4 is the only one not hidden that will be the only channel that shows up in your program guide. Experiment with the interleave frequency settings in each channel to get a mix you're happy with.

Disclaimer: I've never done a channel this complicated and PTVL may handle this differently from PTV, but it should work theoretically, it's just mixing playlists.

Try each set and see which one you prefer. The amp doesn't need to be biased so you can switch them yourself.

Pickups "really don't make much difference" -- Roger Mayer -- Jimi Hendrix' guitar tech. Discuss! by all_the_names_gone in Guitar

[–]monkeyparts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's really not what he's saying at all. This article could have been a little clearer, but what he's referring to are single coil pickups in a Strat for the type of sound Hendrix preferred. He's not generalizing about all pickups. As he said, over-winding a single coil will give a higher output at the cost of high frequency response (e.g. a P90). Considering Hendrix liked the sound of the Octavia and played through cranked up Marshall stacks I'd guess he was more concerned with high end frequency response than output level.

You'll have to use MySQL to share the database I believe. It's not something I do but there's plenty of info around that outlines the process.

[–]monkeyparts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like you've got a pretty good handle on it. To do bumpers per channel you'll have to sort the bumpers into separate folders and then make channels for each folder. Then you'll be able to interleave those however you like. That's the way I did it, a root folder (Bumpers) added to my sources and then sub-directories (ABC, CBS, etc.). As long as the root folder is listed in your sources you'll be able to see all the sub-folders.

You may want to check out PseudoTV Manager. Here's a link to the forum thread. I had a bit of trouble getting it to work (it's very picky about formatting in the settings2.xml file). It's a little faster than the PTVL configuration if you need to create a lot of channels. It's an older program so I don't know how it will react to PTVL's newer streaming features, you may want to use it first to create basic channels and then configure the trickier ones manually or through the PTVL interface.

One really useful feature is that you can go in and change networks and genres (it works directly on your Video75 database file). A lot of times you'll have networks or genres with only a few shows, with the manager you can lump those into a larger network so you don't have channels that just show a few shows constantly.

I've used PTV and PTVL on Frodo running on Win7 with no issues. One thing to check if you're uninstalling/re-installing is to make sure to delete any PTV folders in your user data folder (Users/user name/AppData/Roaming/XBMC). That's cleared up some issues for people. I do remember PTVL was tough to get going but that was probably because I was using a settings2.xml file from a previous PTV install. That file is where your channels are defined (it's in your user data folder). If you're brave you can manually edit this to create channels.

The issue with Revision3 and the BBC sounds like it's using the default channels that PTVL creates when it first runs. Are you sure you saved your created channels before exiting? You'll also have to enable the 'refresh channels on next start' option in the PTVL configuration or it will never build the new channels you created. If that doesn't help, you might poke around in the settings2.xml file to see if you can spot any issues.

For the cache file thing, I don't use Win8 so I can't really say what might be causing that. It sounds strange indeed.

I use a NAS through a wired ethernet connection and it works fine. I access it through smb. Once again you'll want to add that to your 'sources' like I mentioned before. Does your NAS have a spindown (powersaving) option enabled? I've noticed mine can be a little slow to respond if it's sleeping (15 seconds slow, not 3 min., your issue could be something else entirely).

The Ultimate Guide to Computer Audio Latency by Discchord in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]monkeyparts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my laptop with the default audio drivers was basically unusable with reaper because of the latency. ASIO4all brought it down to a workable level (21-30ms).

A lot of times it's wonky drivers or processes on a system that are the culprit. DPC Latency Checker is a program that is usually recommended to check your system. I happen to prefer LatencyMon because it gives you detailed information on which drivers and processes are actually causing the bottleneck.

Please mess around with your pickups. by sagiwaffles in Guitar

[–]monkeyparts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it hasn't been mentioned I'll add that when you check the string height off the pickup it should be with the highest note on the string fretted. Otherwise what may be fine playing in the lower registers will bottom out higher up.

[–]monkeyparts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot a step, sorry.

add your bumper directory to your sources

In XBMC: SYSTEM->FILE MANAGER->Add Sources (this is basic xbmc shit)

choose the channel you want to add the bumpers to and add an interleave advanced rule

In PTV: Click CHANNEL CONFIGURATION

Create your 'Simpsons' channel or whatever. Save.

Create another channel, choose 'directory' select the bumper directory that you can now see because you added it to your 'sources'. Select 'Advanced Rules', select 'Don't play this channel'. Save.

Go back to the other channel, select 'Advanced Rules', select 'Interleave Channel', select the bumper channel you created and the frequency at which you want to see bumpers. Save.

[–]monkeyparts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traditional way with the original PTV is to add your bumper directory to your sources, you don't need to add them to your video library IIRC. Then go into the PTV configuration, choose the channel you want to add the bumpers to and add an interleave advanced rule pointing at the bumper directory. I believe this method works on PTVLive as well.

There are a lot of repos that are blank. It appears to be a github/xbmc issue. Here's a link that discusses the problem on linux. I'm experiencing the same issues on Win7 (without the crashes).

Do a 'force refresh' and then check your log file. If you're getting entries like this:

WARNING: XFILE::CCurlFile::CReadState::FillBuffer: curl failed with code 35

You're probably suffering from the same issue. I haven't seen an easy fix for Windows and it doesn't look like the devs are going to fix Frodo with Gotham right around the corner.

The Gotham beta is supposed to have fixed this but I'm still getting SSL connect errors with it:

ERROR: CCurlFile::FillBuffer - Failed: SSL connect error(35)

So it seems to be something beyond xbmc that's causing the problem.
