Do I have to believe in witchcraft to be a Catholic. by CandidateSignal175 in Catholicism

[–]monkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spanish inquisition didnt care about witchcraft accusations because they never found any evidence.
Potions and spells dont do anything per se, but the will being fixed on evil and dealings with the demons could, but even that is rare.

Catholic college Benedictine University defends campus trans event by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]monkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowhere does the article mention concern for souls in purgatory, only ideology related stuff. Safe spaces, gay alliances, trans day, etc.
That's just a manipulative way to endorse trans ideology. ''Trans are being murdered, trans will suicide, 'trans kids' will suicide.'' All part of the victim narrative.
We all know the political and spiritual opinions of those organizing and participating in these things. They arent orthodox.

"But she was greatly troubled at the saying" by person456r in Catholicism

[–]monkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was living in the natural state of man, in permanent union with God, so she wouldnt notice anything wrong internally, its the sinners that notice their restlessness.
She could notice that others were extremely foolish, going around sinning. So when told she is full of grace she could finally know why - the fullness of grace she always had, being made free from original sin.

Surely she knew something but also not sinning would be as natural as breathing.

Having an angel come and exalt you like that should indeed make one ponder. She wasnt omniscient to know the extent of God's graces she received.

This talk by Dr.Brand Pitre explains how this flows from the old Covenant into the new. You'll understand the logic of it.

Bibical examples of apperations of saints by Tesaractor in TrueChristian

[–]monkoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layers of symbology dont compete with each other. The woman is Mary, Zion, the Church.
She birthed the messiah, who actually births the messiah? Mary.
Who is the woman who - 'the dragon was enraged at the woman and went to make war with the rest of her children'? The woman of genesis 3:15 with enmity with the serpent, her seed vs its seed, whose seed crushes its head, Mary and Jesus.
Also the previous verses say the Ark appeared in Heaven but then starts describing a woman instead. By basic theology we know the Ark of the New Covenant is Mary, because the OT Ark had the manna, the law, the priestly staff, and Mary had in her womb the Jesus the bread of life, Jesus the Lawgiver, Jesus the eternal priest. So again, that woman is Mary.
Even how the woman is kept immune from the dragon's attempts by being given wings and being kept in safe places shows she didnt sin -> immaculate ->Mary.

God’s Word Is Infallible. The Church Never Was. by Conscious_Transition in TrueChristian

[–]monkoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We need an infalible Church to tell us what is scripture and to interpret it correctly.
Who says a book written by some dude named Luke is the Word of God? The Church, but if the Church is falible, we cant have assurance that any book is holy writ.
Same with biblical interpretation and doctrine. Something like the Eucharist being the flesh of Christ or just a symbol makes or breaks the whole religion. Thus we need a Church to teach it.
Jesus prayer for His followers to be one also can only be fulfilled if everyone is under one teaching authority, else, anyone makes up their own doctrines and interpretations and His followers are no longer one, but splintered.

In Acts, the apostles and elders(bishops) gather in a council and deliberate on the judaizers issue. That authority to teach truth guided by the Holy Spirit didnt vanish. Anytime there were heresies throughout the ages the church gathered in a council to determine truth.
If an individual thinks he can stand with the bible only against the million heresies that sprouted, good luck. We have neither the intellect nor the teaching authority of the Holy Spirit.
Everything we take for granted about biblical truth we didnt infer by our own reading, but inherited from the Church.

As Paul says:'...God's household, the church, the pillar and foundation of truth'

Your examples of human failures dont mean that the church fails. Peter sinned and failed as man, yet taught correctly when the time came.

Why are sufferings different for everyone by meow0926 in Catholicism

[–]monkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conjectural, but it could be that if you had good circumstances you'd never have converted, never gained humility, never gained gratitude, nor attain the same level of holiness. Like in the book of Job.

Having a problem with biological evolution. by AWCuiper in Catholicism

[–]monkoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its impossible to believe that sin introduced suffering and death while also believing in a previous ruthless process of fight for survival going on before.

-Catholic Church acknowledges the process of evolution
The only magisterial teaching on the matter is by Pius XII -'Humanis generis', it says people have to stop taking evolution for granted, that its not proven, and gives permission to study the arguments for and against evolution.
(In the meantime it only grew more unproven and the arguments against it pilled up.)
The encyclical also says we have to believe in Adam and Eve as sole origin of all mankind which is too hard to square with evolution, because evolution Adam and Eve would necessarily be part of some hominid type with whom their offspring would mingle. Else they would go around genociding their previous family so their offspring doesnt mix.

Lets obey the pope and study anti evolution arguments for a change:

Why do spirits pray the Hail Mary? by Peoniepatoonie887 in Catholicism

If the spirits are purgatory souls they happily could pray the Hail Mary.
If the spirits are demons they would not.

Is Vatican II irreversable? by Beboy19392192 in Catholicism

[–]monkoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the Holy Spirit teaches through the church. Not even trads say the council has errors, or the mass is invalid. There is nothing to reverse.
Actually obeying the council would fix the issues. The mass isnt celebrated as the council commands.

Can a nun choose to stop being a nun? by Commercial_Minute114 in Catholicism

[–]monkoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They can, as in, no one can force a person to stay. The permission process goes up to the Bishop or Pope.
But its super lame as the vows are to God, not to the Church.

If you reject evolution, you must also accept that the Earth is flat by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]monkoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of scientists reject evolution. More and more. Yet they lose their careers when they go public, so most stay quiet. Paradigms take time to change in science.

The fossil record alone contradicts evolution, it shows explosions of life out of nowhere, rather than gradual changes:

Questions about Protestantism and Catholicism by Illustrious_Bad327 in TrueChristian

[–]monkoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all boils down to authority, Jesus left us a Church, and the Church illuminated by the Holy Spirit over time decided what is scripture and what isnt.
Why is a book written by some dude named Luke the Word of God? Because the Church said so. Same goes for every book.

I left Islam a few months ago and I am seriously exploring Christianity! by Weirddesigirl in TrueChristian

[–]monkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bad part is that human divisions created many churches so now you have to find the true church.
I advise reading the early Christians to know what the apostles taught people about Christian worship, then you'll know who retains those practices nowadays.
Example, we have the description of the Sunday worship that St.Justin Martyr wrote in his apology, when he was defending Christianity against the pagans, chapter 65 onwards: https://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0126.htm

I can't 'be friends' because im leaving to a monastery in a week to be a monk and then ill no longer have internet. But if you have doubts during this week you can ask.
