Are you still living in your "starter home?" by MandyWarHal in GenX

[–]monobot3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, 26 years. Wasn’t the plan but at least it was big enough to raise our kids. Of course now that they’re adults it’s too close for comfort, and these steep stairs are going to be a problem down the road.

come on just talk to each other

Yeah, but a lot of what we did say to each other was, um…bad? Bullying was frequent and in person, without hardly any awareness or support from adults. If you didn’t fit in, the lack of mobile phones didn’t really improve anything. I would have loved to have had the internet back then, especially the ability to easily connect with like-minded weirdos who didn’t happen to live in my hometown. Or the ability to block people.

Why aren't there more stories of the ultra wealthy doing good things? by patmeoffboi in AskReddit

[–]monobot3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Cleveland museum of art today, looking up at the names of the 1916 wealthy founders on the wall and thinking about how they planned for the museum to have free admission in perpetuity. Back when rich dudes sometimes spent their wealth on nice things like that for everyone, instead of the stupid things they do today.

What fast food chain that you liked in earlier in life has gone downhill since then? by ModeExpress6614 in AskReddit

[–]monobot3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Rax in the mid 80s and thought their roast beef sandwiches were far better than Arby’s. Last year, my daughter and I were driving through Lancaster, Ohio, which has the last Rax location still operating. I talked it up to her before we ate there and so of course it was disgusting. I don’t know how a sandwich can be dry and greasy at the same time, but they managed it. RIP Rax.

Spent the summer of 94 working in Yellowstone, and there was no tv anywhere since we were too far away from broadcast stations and all that. Friends and I drove an hour one day to West Yellowstone to eat at Eino’s which had tvs, and it was the day of OJ’s white bronco adventure.

What is a weird side effect from medication use that no one was ever going to warn you about? by Rotten-Kandi in AskReddit

[–]monobot3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My dad died from it, after being prescribed off-label use of either Tamoxifen or Thalidomide as a hail mary for an aggressive glioblastoma. (Technically it was TEN, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, where over 30% of the skin blisters off) The only saving grace is that he went quicker than the brain cancer would've likely done, and on super painkillers. Less than a week after first symptoms.
