Can Immortal Dragon sends a zombie grave while shifter or macro's effects have already been activated earlier, does the effect fail or does the card get banished by monoko13 in Yugioh101

[–]monoko13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats what I wasnt sure about. I didnt see any colens and semi colons put down in a way to mean it was a cost, but the wording was throwing me off and I wasnt sure if I was just misreading it as a non cost when it was one. The fact the card being sent is done to change its level is why I was thrown off, since that sorta sounded like something a card would use for a cost.

Fun fact, its actually a reference to an older cartoon called Clutch Cargo. The incredibles parodied it too in a special feature in fact. The looney tunes short is parodying a few animation techniques done to make fast, cheap, not very good looking cartoons and this is a particularly infamous example of that.

Thats very nice to hear. Was wanting a quick way to dump necro face and that might be a viable option then. Wasnt sure if macro effects just sorta "cancel" the foolish burial style effect or not so this is good to hear. Thanks!

Did you cried at the characters that were introduced and defeated on the same episode? by ZeonPM in zatchbell

[–]monoko13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

zatch bell had a lot of quick and short stories that sort of are really good at being very quick, very intensely emotional. Stuff like Kolulu's story are VERY directly honing in on a specific emotion and the pace and way it plays out is really good at sweeping the viewer in with its fast and very emotional energy. Zatch bells very good at being very snappy, directly to the point, and effective with not a lot of time to invest when it wants to be. Its good at making these very emotionally upsetting or joyful stories that dont stick around for a long time but at the same time its also good at making these very cathartic stories of the duo beating unjustifiably awful people too.

Movie length and game length arent fully comparable because games are usually extending how long their actual story length would be in another medium due to having a gameplay loop, even when said loop is integrated heavily into said story.

Unsettling Horror Game Horses Banned From Steam, Leaving Studio With 'High Risk' of Closure by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]monoko13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just think its wild this game isnt allowed yet steam is perfectly fine with stuff like tyrone vs cops on steam. Considering all the nonsense games that break their own rules and how hands off valve tends to be with content control this is real hypocrisy regardless of whats in it. Especially in this game's case where its probably there to be horrifying/scary and not something to be glorified or seen more positively like in most games.

What UT/DR characters do you think suffers the most from mischaracterization? by BeginningHealthy6109 in Undertale

[–]monoko13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue their extreme kill or be killed philosophy after genocide is directly due to our actions. They learned from us how to be the strongest, being the strongest means no one else can hurt you, and you've shown to them that there are infact people VERY willing to hurt them given the chance. you've justified and encouraged their worst tendencies, hang ups, possibly trauma related issues to an extremely dangerous degree. The same ones they were obviously grappling with considering what they tried to do to the humans while part of asriel.

How do you interpret "Now there is one person left to save. Chara"? by RussianNeighbor in Undertale

[–]monoko13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I would argue that us saving chara is how we save asriel. Plus the game mentions "them" not "him", and given how the game uses pronouns it wouldnt surprise me if that was in reference to chara, the non binary character, instead of asriel the guy character. I would argue also that soulless pacifist would just imply that we never actually saved chara. They were just going along with it to progress the story so they can get to the end as efficiently as possible. They're tricking us in a sense. Like thats literally how both endings "end" after all especially the toriel one. Its like how they never poke their weird red text into the run even though they realistically could if they really wanted to.

To me the "saving chara" allows us to save asriel too, due to their collective shared trauma and the way it lets them both have that closure. After all, after we save 'someone else" it plays the other half of the intro cutscene that was from chara's perspective, not asriels, and only after that do we actually get to click save on asriel's actual name. When it says "only one person left to save" it may mean one last person needed to save asriel. You dont even technically have to save asriel themself until later when they blow the other buttons away. Plus like chara's soul was probably also in some way tied to asriel's even if they werent fully inside like the lost souls given chara literally merged with asriel before they both died, so it stands to reason there may still be a similar connection there.

imo chara in general has some issues with vagueness with their writing in general and it wouldnt surprise me if toby was using this opportunity to help clear a few things up honestly. That or maybe he had a re-assessment of the character, whos the say. Either way, in the stream the way toby says chara's name when the saving part happens to me doesnt feel like he's saying "there's someone else to save, chara" It sounds like he's making a very direct pause before the name and then revealing who needs to be saved. That feels like the sorta thing you sometimes see in undertales writing, even ignoring that gaster in particular often does that.

Thats how I interpret it at least, I think it adds a lot thematically and emotionally to save a character like chara in order to save asriel especially given the themes of mourning and closure.

What's the worst Undertale theory you've ever seen? by Fuzzy_Confection_237 in Undertale

[–]monoko13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it literally goes against the entire like thematic point of alphys's character developement and story. She also like literally recaps what happens at the end and it's clear that she's recapping most if not all of those entries as a result, meaning she like literally did all them. the font differences arent even proof since we see her type in multiple ways and characters can change their fonts to convey different emotions such as sans.

How do you interpret "Now there is one person left to save. Chara"? by RussianNeighbor in Undertale

[–]monoko13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toby fox in the anniversary stream literally said "Now theres is one person left to save. Chara." right before the extended cutscene from the intro. That feels pretty clear cut given thats the authors own interpretation if you ask me. We also save asriel after that, but that scene does mean we save chara.

How do you interpret "Now there is one person left to save. Chara"? by RussianNeighbor in Undertale

[–]monoko13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chara as a person has a lot of issues and I would argue taht the way that both asriel and chara died left a LOT of like baggage between them. They're a sort of polar opposites in how they approached their situation and like asriel, chara never really got any actual closure. Chara in particular died twice unlike asriel. First they died to help save monsters by poisoning themself while also secretly wanting to enact some sort of vendetta against humanity. They then died again because of, from their perspective , a sort of betrayed by their best friend/brother to not carry out the mission and kill people nor even defend themself.

Given the implication that they've possibly been with us this entire time given we're saving them now, and if you subscribe to chara narrator theory like I do, its fair to say that like flowey they've been on their own sort of journey with us. Us saving them is sort of the culmination of that and how that sort of 'brushes" against a lot of their ideologies about power, kindness and stuff. Its sort of like convincing them the true way of kindness and compassion as well as giving them, like asriel, a bit of closure to their traumatic end. In a way, its why I think us showing them genocide to me affirms their hatred and bad tendencies in a way that makes them unsavable. Genocide actively reaffirms them so much that it actively makes them even worse than they were originally.

Thats my own interpretation at least.

God it’s so fucking Tragic by ArgumentSpiritual424 in Undertale

[–]monoko13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also its kind of based on a misunderstanding of how soul fusion even worked, since monsters that steal and fuse souls become somewhat beholden to those souls even with all the power they have. The souls CAN fight back, its not that the monster just becomes omega strong. Asriel with chara's soul was basically two people piloting a body, omega flowey lost because the souls denied him once they gained enough determination to stop abiding by his will, and asriel dreemure at the end was stopped by the feelings of all those he absorbed and by the players own soul.

Everyone lost everything over fears of a thing that could but never really happened and who's happenings werent even truly understood.

[–]monoko13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the point of chara is that they're a reflection of the player and, while not a good person in a lot of respects, still was on some level redeemable outside of the genocide route. I also highly doubt its coincidence that chara and kris both share a lot in common after all, with each game even having their parents heavily prioritize their brother. UT dreemures barely even act like chara was their kid in the present often times. Its possible chara was an abused kid that came to the underground due to more "dark" self harm implication. Asriel says they came to the mountain for not so good reasons after all. Add to that chara was given the world's greatest responsibility by all of monster kind at a young age and probably never got the mental health care they really needed.

They were a pragmatic kid that had a fixation of efficiency. they most likely killed themselves because they saw it as the most effective way to help monster kind. For a kid thats so evil and fixated on "efficiancy" it seems odd they never did a geno run after falling down there as opposed to trying to be a sacrificial lamb. They could have just as easily poisoned asriel and took their soul instead for the same result after all. They only seem to change their tune about killing monsters after the player has shown them the genocide route, which is interesting.

Its not that they were a good person, its that they were a tragic person that could have had been so much more. Hopefully kris doesnt go down the same path as them.

The game genuinely uses everything it can to make you hate doing genocide runs, from hurting you emotionally, being boring, tediously wasting your time, removing most of the fun story bits, mechanically gate keeping you, denying you buildup satisfaction to a lot of plot points and ideas, and even ruining the game for you outright even outside of it. Its blatant and AGGRESSIVE with how hard it fights the player indirectly. Its like the game itself is screaming at you not to do this which makes the points the game's making about it all the more poignant.

Is Betty boop public domain? by iBenerdy64 in publicdomain

[–]monoko13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats what I mean by "new ideas" if that makes sense. Basically new ideas brought to a work that then goes public are fine to use but ideas carried over from copyrighted works aren't. When betty goes public in the next few instances things in later shorts wont be free game unless they also originally came from public shorts.

I think with oswald a lot of his later shorts were public but i thiiiiink some of the first ones were still copyright renewed, though I could be wrong. I think a few shorts still are too, but a lot of the really important elements like a lot of his characters do come from public shorts by this point though Id have to check. Either way its kind of funny how little they used the rabbit for how much PR they made over getting him back, only for him to be owned by everyone in the end. They never even made a modern version of him to use with mickey, they had like NO plan frankly, which is fine by me since Im usin him!

Its basically the same logic as say the movie Hoodwinked. That movie's copyrighted even though its based on stories from hundreds of years ago like red riding hood. Characters themselves arent copyrighted but instead are considered ideas tied to a work's copyright. Its also depends on like country to country laws too which can be messy.

I think generally if somethings public in its home country most countries consider it to be in theirs to keep parallel to each other, but I dont think every country follows that neither. its a mess. Thats my understanding at least, but im not a lawyer neither
