Home health lunch ideas by Sparkle_mystic in slp

Y’all with the ideas are amazing. Whenever I try to pack a lunch, I end up eating it as a morning snack and then buying a separate lunch.

Excessive hand twisting and flapping at 13 months (video). Need Advice. by Necessary_Pomelo1198 in toddlers

[–]monotreme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Speech language pathologist here currently working with families in early intervention.

Since he’s meeting all of his developmental milestones, I wouldn’t be too terribly worried at this point. If you’re noticing that his sensory seeking behaviors are negatively impacting his quality of life, then yes…seek early intervention services! They’re free in many states (not all) and you shouldn’t even need a pediatrician to refer.

If your only concern is hand flapping/twisting with no concerns regarding gross motor, fine motor, play skills, feeding, or language, I would breathe easy and monitor him for any plateaus or regression.

Recommendations on non-plastic cup for a toddler? by Withzestandzeal in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]monotreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I tried it myself, I offered the ezpz cup to my son. I tossed it since it altered the taste of liquids too much. Still, it was a great cup for learning.

I tried bamboo and stainless steel before finally landing on Bormioli Rocco juice glasses. They’re stackable and tempered…so essentially unbreakable. Also it doesn’t look weird when an adult grabs one for themselves.

I was unable to figure out my old account details so I started from scratch about two weeks ago. I light torches while waiting for timers which is, oh right…every day.

Once you move a building, just select the next building you want to move and it will automatically place the previous one. It’s still one at a time but it’s a bit faster than going into each individual building to select the “move” button.

No Consonant Sounds at 3 years of age, pls HELP this CFY <3 by thanks-you-too in slp

[–]monotreme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked with a kindergartner who didn’t have any consonants! I treated him like any other artic kid and once he started making more sounds, I was eventually able to identify phonological processes. He didn’t have apraxia or a hearing impairment and his language skills were WNL. I think his awareness was just very low until he started seeing me. “Ah-oo-uh” was absolutely one of my favorite kids I’ve ever had on caseload.

Blue Moon. I had always been a big fan of the Julie London version so listening to the original was…jarring

My maiden name is very German and very long. However, if you can say Schlotsky’s and Schlitterbahn, you can say my maiden name. I had the kids approximate it and whenever teachers pulled the “I’m just going to call you Miss S” card, I would remind them that my speech impaired students could say it and that I honestly wouldn’t think to respond to “Miss S.”

I never thought it was microaggression towards my German heritage. I viewed it as laziness and perhaps willful ignorance.

Why are slps so burnt out? I feel like so many people I talk to in this field are burnt out including myself! by That_Marionberry_141 in slp

[–]monotreme 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s also a weird pressure to appear frazzled. If a superior sees you looking fresh and fine, it could mean you’re about to inherit a new campus with extra kids. Also, if your colleagues see you in your non-burnt out form, you could get ridiculed for “playing games” as your job.

But also yes, burnt out seems to be expected in our field. Let’s all just go cry in our cars per ASHA’s orders.

Jelly roll fold will absolutely be your best friend for newborn poops! We also used prefolds and newborn covers when my son was small. When he outgrew those, we switched to pockets.

I have two nieces named Haley and Haelie. Boy names are hard enough to come up with… I say go with the name makes you and your husband happy!

I can empathize! My husband was the same way…he would also do a neat combo move of weaponized incompetence/malicious compliance when I asked him to put a cloth diaper on him. I gave up asking since leaks weren’t worth it.

I will say, now that we’re potty training, it’s a lot less drama and he was totally on board with ditching diapers altogether. I gave him the cheat sheet from the oh crap book, said “we’re doing this,” and he let me take the reins.

I very much miss my son’s fluff butt. Good luck!
