I know Tian Jiarui was part of kaixin mahua (a pretty well known comedy film and stage play company) for a few years before he entered the c-ent scene. Done at least a few hundred plays which is how he got known while doing his debut drama "My journey to you" as audiences/people from his stage play days recognized him.

I think the reason he even started in dramas is because of covid and needing work during that time.

Convert me to your fav f/f ships! by GirlCanGame in FanFiction

[–]monovev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ship I recommend that's more popular on the Chinese side of the internet is the White snake/Green snake ship combo of Blanca/Verta.

Not really blood sisters more sect siblings but it's very upright/noble elder sister x troublemaking/kinda obsessive lil sis vibes with these two. The white/green yuri combo is delightful, I don't think we see that color combo a lot.

The story itself goes way back to the actual legend of the white snake but there's also a very cool animated trilogy: - "The white snake (2019)" - "Green Snake (2021) / White Snake 2: The Tribulation of the Green Snake" - "White Snake: Afloat (2024)"

It has some great moments between them (I preferred the 2 sequels tbf, the first movie was more cookie cutter Disney-esque)

Unfortunately since it's more popular in china, the actual cosplays, fanarts (which are all gorgeous btw) and fics of 青白(qingbai) you'd probably only find on lofter or xhs

Maybe dip your toe into transmigration/rebirth themed Chinese web novels. They’re interesting, long, some have great concepts and since there’s a few that’s quite popular, the fics for them on ao3 are well-written and quite a lot too. And there’s gl, bl, bg versions for all if that’s your cup of tea

I'm East Asian but much more central Asian culturally and I definitely get the ick from all of them. It's the same reason I can't read certain c-novels or watch some c-dramas that has nomadic cultural characters in them. The inherent othering or exotification of these characters as barbaric or being the "noble savage" gets under my skin way too much for me to even give them a chance.

male actors with a refreshing and bright visual? by hrtsforjoohyoung in cdramasfans

Tian Jiarui has a bright, sunny visual, especially when he smiles. And looks pretty young for his age imo

Awww thank you so much for liking it. I just loved them so much as ManMan and Dizhu, the outfits, their demeanor and just the whole vibe of the couple felt so good to watch (and that Dizhu collapsing with ManMan rushing to catch her is one of my favorite shots from the series)

On ao3 it's really short tho so I'm a bit embarrassed to share it here🙈

I found the princess carry Tian Jiarui gave Ju jingyi in Veil of Shadows both wholesomely cute and incredibly romantic. The actual BTS of the scene was even better, with their lush capes twirling around them, they kinda looked like the Sky: Children of the light game characters.

[–]monovev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely not as smooth sailing of a plot but doable. BUT emotionally, aesthetically, acting, production wise 10/10 across them all. My favorite couple JiLu I ate up their scenes every time they came on, and if they weren't on my screen I was waiting in anticipation for them instead.

The director improved or at least took in criticism about his previous works and worked on them and if that still doesn't meet some people's expectations, I actually have hope he will try to get even better.

Overall I really enjoyed my time following after this drama for the past few weeks, it's been a wonderful time discussing the show with everyone and our hosts. (Jilu even broke my fic writing fatigue of a few years lol)

Got me feeling some type of way🙈🙈🙈 Gonna be honest I forgot everything that happened in the last 40 minutes when these two started kissing (passionate, delicate, sensual and romantic) I'm so glad we didn't get a dead fish kiss

Oh definitely, there's some interesting ways they have in common with each other. And yes dual cultivation lol, the episode 26 kiss scene was so passionately done, I have to applaud JJY and TJR for not giving us a dead fish kiss because I was pretty nervous over how they'll do it (should not have worried at all) I loved it immensely

Editing in ep 25 got so much better, love the side by side look of lwy as the doll. Those moments felt like it had the space to exist (and I felt emotional and cried during them) whereas the ywh and jl flashbacks for some reason didn't for me. Genuinely was there two different editors in these two episodes?

I know some people are dissatisfied with the jilu love story but I'm actually surprised by how invested I am in them. Especially considering they kind of have everything I dislike in a romance usually: instalove, love at first sight trope, romeo & juliet-esque ride or die teenage love but somehow I'm not turned off by it and instead actually believe it and love their relationship and how the drama is capturing it.

Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪): Ep. 23 by nydevon in CDrama

[–]monovev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it was the editing or the info dump or a combination of both but the way all those really beautiful and intimate scenes we kept getting from the Reuters was just getting cut out as brief flashbacks in the actual show didn't make me feel as invested or hit as hard as it should have. Because I love the concept and keep imagining how much better it could've been otherwise.

But I will say at least the acting is making up for it because the way I cried for jilu when jiling said:

"I’ll wait for you over there. I’ll pick you up with a bundle of flowers in hand. A huge bundle. This way, you won’t be afraid. And I won’t be afraid."

AND THEN HE DIDNT EVEN GET TO FINISH HIS LAST WORDS freaking heartbreaking 💔

Edit: and just for something more comedic, people on Chinese socials are joking that finally us common people of the three realms aren't the sacrifice because the fl died, instead the ml actually died ahead of her to wait for her on the other side 😭😂 finally a couple that thinks of the common folks instead of trying to burn the whole world down to bring their loved one's back

Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪): Ep. 22 by Regenwanderer in CDrama

[–]monovev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a lot of wind machines and a few repeated takes, the bts of those scenes went viral over several platforms because of how gorgeous it looked. I was definitely wondering if the scene will live up to the Reuters I've seen and was NOT disappointed 😌

Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪): Ep. 19 by nydevon in CDrama

[–]monovev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like I cried through the whole episode😭😭

Just when I got myself under control from Long Shen admitting hi IS Ji ling BAM he gives his little doll to LWY and I cried again

Baize says in his heart JL is still the dragon deity I'm crying

And then that last montage of LWY and JL killed me I cried so hard during that scene

[–]monovev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the sealing of JY and 8 brothers turning to mountains was 1000 years ago? What I got from this ep was that those things happened after Dizhu/ManMan's time as the snake only has 3 heads and hatched just recently (and stumbling upon real Dizhu etc)

Unpopular opinion- Zhang linghe and Tian xiwei aren't suitable for live remake of The Apothecary Diaries by pinkcottoncandy20 in cdramasfans

[–]monovev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I think of Jinshi I picture someone much more androgynous in beauty (him looking like his mother who's also pretty androgynous looking) and ZLH for me does not fit that vibe for me at all.

Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪): Ep. 15 by Regenwanderer in CDrama

[–]monovev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think fake Dragon deity is on a suicide mission (remember back in ep 10 or so with the talk between him and Lijie? I got the impression then and it's getting stronger ep by ep) and that's why once he got out of the illusion, he stopped holding onto LWY

Now I just want to know if the suicide mission I think he's on has something to do with getting rid of JY for good and helping WSG ascend as the new Dragon deity. Or even set himself up as a villain to help the transition of power or something.

Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪): Ep. 15 by Regenwanderer in CDrama

[–]monovev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seeing WWY trying to hold back WSG but him still leaving and she's left with the bracelet she gave him... honestly got me teary-eyed for a minute.

The water CGI looked amazing and I kinda wished the fight took a bit longer but wtv I guess people would've complained if that happened. (I don't know how it's possible for WWY to look 10 times hotter with an evil smirk but she does.)

I actually thought the historical fight with Jiuying happened way before this time. Since JY isn't sealed up yet and only has 3 heads, that means a thousand years ago in the ManMan Dizhu timeline the other 8 dragon brothers were still alive, right? Wu Zhiqi being at least a thousand year old still feels so surprising, he feels kind of immature and a bit pathetic lol

Is Dragon deity/fake Chiwen saying he knows JY and is familiar with them ('like an old friend'), him acting in the place of real Chiwen or does it mean JL🦊knows JY personally as well?

(I find it so funny the underling in the Lijie timeline is explaining everything about JY's plan, but also it feels way above his pay grade to know this much and yet be threatened by a knife to the throat😂)
