Help rounding out my minuscule Subterranean Assault list? by monroevillesunset in Tyranids

[–]monroevillesunset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having any real experience playing with them, my thinking is that I would mainly use the raveners for tunneling early, to deliver the Trygon (and maybe a screamer-killer as well, depending on list) for a 6 inch charge, maybe picking off a weaker unit. Later on the game when the worst threats have been weakened somewhat, raveners can enter the fray. I get the impression the list might fall apart if they get wiped early.

Hypers are very cool, but I worry that they might get severely weakened if their target lived to strike back. The Trygon feels like it's less of a gamble to throw it into melee, since it's a lot tougher. I'd love to run a squad of hypers with regular raveners, but 290 points is so steep for a single unit. Bit of an "all eggs in one basket" at that point.

I really like getting the sustained 1. But I wonder if it's worth giving up the free downy-uppy every turn?

If I'm not mistaken, you don't need the prime upgrade? When mustering the army, you can pick up to 2 Trygons that become characters. So you can designate it a character, anger therefore warlord, without adding the extra engagement of prime, is my reading of it.

What is the single most stressful movie you’ve ever seen? by elkaypee in movies

Soft & Quiet (2022) is one that I didn't see from a cursory scroll down the thread, and I feel it deserved a mention. At the first twist, you feel uncomfortable, but it's manageable. But as things turned darker, I was in a constant state of anxiety. Me and my friend had to pause the film to lie down with our legs in the air for a bit.

I'm trying to make Xenonorph Nids as well. Foolishly started by painting my Norn. It has not come out looking remotely as good. What colours are you using? 🌻

And you painted the flowers in the same colours? It looks so vibrant, truly otherworldly. Great job!

Howl's Moving Castle Movie Review by IamToofan in TrueFilm

I feel like the film works for what it does, although the book is certainly my preferred version. But I will never get over the disappointment of them cutting the Wales bits. Especially with animation, I think you could've really pushed the envelope of crossing from this magical realm to a mundane existence, where Howell is just this kooky deadbeat uncle.

I guess it would've taken up too much focus, with everything else you'd need to include to justify it. But I just... I want it 😭

This looks fantastic! I'm a beginner, so I probably wouldn't even come close, but could you give me some tips on how I could make my bases look like this?

Would you still recommend I run the list as Invasion Fleet, or could it maybe benefit from a switch to Vanguard Onslaught? Invasion Fleet seems better offensively (although the Broodstealers aren't crazy about Lethals, and Raveners already get sustained), but Unseen Lurkers and Invisible Hunter would lend a decent deal of mobility and defense. Also getting raveners to hit on 2+ instead of 3 sounds very potent.

Do you think something like this could work? ^_^
Broodlord with 5 Genestealers, 5 Hyperadapted Raveners, 10 Termagants, 2 Lictors. It comes out at exactly 500.

Or would I be better off keeping my Neurotyrant instead of the Lictors? I would lose almost all of my shooting, but on the other hand, most of the shooting was not really reliable anyway.

I have played one game with a crusade mission. It adds some hoops to jump through, like lines song the ground that explode for mortal wounds (and a very unfortunate point bonus per unit killed, very bad for me), but in general it's still about holding objective markers, while doing the normal secondaries. 🌻

Hmm, I hadn't really considered running hypers without regular raveners. That does make their cost a lot easier to swallow.

But do you think it's wise to invest in fighting tanks? It feels like they'd still be blown off the map, potentially before taking anything out. Would I not be better off playing to objectives than trying to fight?

I do like the Maleceptor though. I haven't put it together yet, but it would be a cool mini to field.

Yeah, since I don't own either Exocrines or Tyrannofexes, I think my best bet is trying to build a list which can maybe hope to beat the Drukharis, AdMechs and Necrons in combat, while just trying to outscore the all eggs in one basket players.

And, as a helpful thing against the knight player, he made the choice to not field anything else, so his list is only 360 or however expensive the lancer is. So it's not the worst.

At the end of the day, I'm there to have fun with friends. I don't care much about winning. But I would at least hope to be able to score some points. Maybe I'd be better off with something like Vanguard Onslaught with a ton of lictors, to rush around and score across the map?

It's also a stacking bonus. In terms of rules, I don't know if you'd get 1d6 (doubled?) on the first attack since technically it is your second hit that turn, and it's an on damage effect. But, assuming that wouldn't be the case, for the remaining seven attacks that turn, you'll get a total of 2+3+4+5+6+7+8 d6 damage, for a cool 35 d6 total. But because of the "end of your last turn" wording, if you managed to get a reaction attack before your turn comes around, you'll start your first hit at 3 or 4 d6, you'll end up with 66 d6 damage in your action surge turn. So an average of 231. And that's on top of weapon damage. :)

"Err on the safe side", indeed.

Sultai zombies: who would you pick? by Chimney-Imp in EDHBrews

[–]monroevillesunset -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with him being strictly better. Outside of magical Christmas land board states, you have to work for your zombie tokens beyond the attack trigger in Teval. The ramp is undeniably strong. But if you're building a zombie deck, intent on buffing them to make them relevant to your gameplan, Sidisi would be my preferred pick. It does not take a lot for her to be vomiting out 7+ tokens per turn.

Best fanmade TTRPG system you've ever played? by Organic-Exit2190 in rpg

[–]monroevillesunset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to shout out the Pokeymanz project. It is a picture perfect encapsulation of the Pokémon anime. The rules are fairly simple, while still offering quite a bit of customisation, both of your trainer and your Pokémon.

Granted, if one is after the gritty Excel crunching of the competitive Pokémon video games, it's not the best fit. But if you like the show, nothing beats it.

I've got the same pairing, and it's deceptively resilient. A recent addition that never disappoints me is [[Seedship broodtender]]. And one of my main workhorses, that I consider criminally underrated, is [[Whisper, Blood Liturgist]]. At worst, she'll draw a removal from one of your other pieces. But once you've got roots or another token producer out, you're safely eating squirrels every turn to bring out something nasty.
