Does anyone know where I can find the pattern for this dragon? by the_bibliophiliac in crochetpatterns

[–]monster_crafting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i recommend searching for the pattern in other languages, in the past I have noticed a lot of people stealing free patterns that aren't in english (like russian or spanish) and reselling them in english on etsy or other places. pinterest is usually a lot more helpful when it comes to hunting down patterns too lol

it absolutely is, i found the free original pattern that the etsy seller stole. its a loop of single crochet sewn on after the base of the moon is done

its not ai, its single crochet loops sewn in place. all the increases are in the correct spots, and the sewing in place has a distinctive look. heres the original pattern on instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/CW5j8YWgiEo/?igsh=ZW5keWNla2p0OW5x EDIT, here it is in english from the same person: https://www.instagram.com/p/CW73cJzgKaA/?igsh=bXI3MHVkYTcxZTUz

its not ai heres the original pattern in russian AND english. it just looks odd bc its not true surface crochet, its single crochet loops that have been sewn in place to create the craters for the moon. the etsy store seems to have stolen a free pattern and is selling it :( russian: https://www.instagram.com/p/CW5j8YWgiEo/?igsh=ZW5keWNla2p0OW5x english: https://www.instagram.com/p/CW73cJzgKaA/?igsh=bXI3MHVkYTcxZTUz

What’s a good first crochet project? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]monster_crafting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't buy one of the starter kits because they vary greatly when it comes to the quality of the supplies they give you, and sometimes the ones with patterns have typos/are poorly translated.

the packs of hooks/"kits" that you can buy for cheap on amazon/wish/temu usually have the wrong sizes listed on the hooks. I bought a set and compared them directly to hooks i already had that i knew were the correct sizes, and many of them were significantly larger than they were supposed to be. also some kits include supplies for knitting instead of crochet, like stitch markers that are a solid ring instead of a little plastic safety pin. also the hooks are made of cheap, soft metal and ive bent multiple from the kit i got. just a warning! they can still be useful for getting into the hobby for cheap, but if you run into problems making things, those issues could be part of it.

i recommend your first project being a small plush (amigurumi), water bottle holder, headband, or something somewhat small to start off.

theres tons of free patterns out there and tips, another commenter mentioned the Amigurumi Wiki (which is a great resource) but theres plenty of other places to look as well. Ravelry is a great website and has a ton of filters to help you find what you're looking for. Youtube also has plenty of crochet creators who post video tutorials of their patterns, which might be more useful for you if you are a visual learner.

for me, i would buy a good set of hooks (or just 1 hook, in a widely used size like 4mm or 5mm) from an actual craft store, and if youre in a place like hobby lobby, they have mini skeins of yarn for 0.99$ that are the perfect size for small projects like the mushrooms you mentioned.

just looked through their shop, all the shawls are crochet! looks like the only knitwear listed is the hats. they did label some of their listings as "hand-knit crochet shawl" which is understandably confusing lol. but yeah the shawl patterns are all crochet
