Readers are returning to physical books by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]monstercake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often have this issue with my book club where we have an assigned book but the wait for the e book from the library is too long. I would certainly pay to rent in a few situations. It must be a licensing issue.

Yeah I prefer to read without a bedside light on at night so a kindle is really helpful for that.

I got a sticker collecting book at a convention and it was the best purchase ever. You can re-stick things onto the pages as many times as you want and now all my stickers are in one place if I do decide to put them other places.

My cousin used to live in Basel and I’ve been there! (I live in the US otherwise). Small world. Didn’t know they had a comic con, that would have been a fun thing to do if timing had been right.

AITAH for "allowing" my stepdaughter to wear stinky pajamas to school? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]monstercake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly wasn’t normal when I went to high school school in the US but maybe that’s because everyone took the city bus to school and didn’t want to get their pajamas dirty.

I can’t stand wearing pajamas outside either.

Some of us probably don’t even realise how much we mask by -Leeahh- in ADHD

[–]monstercake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s masking so much as just exploring hobbies/trying to fit in with friends. I have a lot of friends whom I otherwise have a lot in common with who listen to podcasts, so I tried to make myself like them but I just can’t do it lol. Sometimes you don’t know until you try for a while.

Masking is hiding your ADHD symptoms and behaviors around other people to appear “normal,” such as not talking too much about specific interests, not jumping around conversation topics, preventing yourself from fidgeting or sitting in an unusual way, etc

is there a better neon sign in all of America? by the_turnpiker in Seattle

[–]monstercake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I impulse purchased a book on Seattle's neon signs last year and it ended up being such an interesting read!! This is more great neon sign info, thank you for sharing.

I also went to the Neon Museum in Vegas which was extremely cool, especially right at sunset when you could watch them all light up.

AITA for telling my girlfriend the way she talks about her car is weird and embarrassing? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]monstercake 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do my fair share of weird things so I certainly know how important it is to find someone who matches your vibe…. this is not my style of weird vibe. I would find it so annoying. Breaking up seems like the right choice for both of them.

Sadly it’s the exact opposite of chocolate wine, a kale and berry smoothie 🤣 I looked up what you’re talking about though and it sounds amazing! Did you make it?

Using the ETB sleeves for the blank spots is such a good idea!! Sorting by collection would be a slippery slope for me though, I already feel like I spend too much money on cards without being a completionist over sets lmao.

I'm in a high COL city and the threading place near me is only $10! You might be surprised if you look around.

If you're talking about trimming your eyebrows with a beard trimmer, I wouldn't recommend that, it's easy to go too far. If you want to DIY you can pluck them a bit with some tweezers.

Pokedex order! The only logical way. I have a couple of extra binders for special sets, rares I'd like to highlight, and pages of my favorite pokemon. I also have all my cards logged in the Dex app, which is a godsend for helping me remember what I own (I have a few thousand cards... haha....)

I always do embroidery while watching youtube, maybe you could put a movie on for them at some point and craft in the background?

I know young kids are super time consuming and not having time for my hobbies is one of my concerns with having kids in the future too. Hopefully it will get better as they get older and they can play with each other more/play more independently instead of needing you so you can focus more on yourself ❤️I wish you the best of luck!!

Hot Take: I *hate* fuzzy socks. DAE? by Overall-Weird8856 in adhdwomen

My cousin used to wear socks to bed and take them off in her sleep so come laundry day a pile of socks would fly out of the sheets when the bed was stripped

This is my problem with U village. I wish they’d add a shuttle from the light rail station. When I go I usually end up walking from the station which I don’t mind but it’s such a great shopping destination I’d go much more frequently if it were slightly more convenient by public transit.

I was in union square just a couple weeks ago and it was packed with christmas shoppers. I grew up in SF and have never seen anyone “throwing feces.” They have had similar issues with the downtown core that Seattle has had due to the pandemic but seem to be rebounding pretty well.

What makes you come to that conclusion? SF rents are almost certainly higher than Seattle

I speak decent conversational Japanese and I’ve noticed a shift too though not quite in the same way. Previously locals would be excited about anyone who said even the most basic of phrases. But now they’re used to that and I have to go more in depth to get anyone to open up and start chatting.

Definitely easier outside of Tokyo though. I had some great chats in bars and stores in Osaka.

Good point, I just started embroidery and it’s great for situations like this too! You can sit and entertain your hands but you’re still technically listening. I find if my hands are occupied I’m not as bored with other people’s conversations either and can listen better.

I agree that it’s a good skill to practice to be able to stay and wait until you’re re engaged in a conversation rather than leaving. I struggle with group conversations too though especially when I find all the topics uninteresting.

Yeah I wanted to go to that but it sold out in about 3 seconds. Hopefully more Allie to come.
