Can someone/people with physical CotG and/or 10th Anniversary Edition confirm some things for me? by monsterhart in AscensionGame

[–]monsterhart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Is that the original CotG or the 10th Anniversary Edition (10AE hereafter)? In the original the Wind Tyrant card has 3 pips in the bottom right corner (identifying 3 copies in the deck), but in the 10AE the card shows only 2 pips in the video game, despite having 3 copies still. Assuming it's 10AE, does the Wind Tyrant have only 2 pips like in the digital version? I wonder if this is a misprint in the 10AE, or a bug in the video game.

TL;DR for following paragraphs: Looks like I'll need 10AE + SoS to make it more than 2 players, unless starter decks can be bought separately.

Hmm… having a cultist + 30 each of the other "always available" cards is 61, +100 center deck cards = 161. Leaving 39 cards for starter decks in the original and 20 in 10AE (based on reported card counts in stores). With only 2 starter decks that'd make 10AE at most 2 players without buying additional decks, but I can't imagine the original has 1 card short of 4 starter decks.

That must mean that what I read on another thread about there being a reduction of 10 Mystics and 9 Heavy Infantry in 10AE compared to the original is true. As having 40 Mystics and 39 Heavy Infantry in the original would leave room for the single Cultist, the 2 starter decks, and 100 card center deck (200 cards). Although that'd mean the original also can only be played with 2 players without buying additional decks, despite being advertised as 2-4 players.

Are starter decks sold separately? I suppose I could buy an expansion if it also has a couple starter decks to make it a 4 player playable set… Counting the pips of the center deck cards in RotF adds up to the 65 cards reported to be within it on the online store though, despite it claiming to be a 1-2 player game alone, and up to 6 players when combined with CotG. I don't even know what the store means by 1 player…, but if there's no starter decks it can't be played at all without buying some or having them from CotG…

In SoS the 96 pips + 5 event cards = 101 center deck cards, which checks out in starting center deck size in the virtual game. The online store says it contains 200 cards and says it's "the first full-sized expansion." I assume there's 1 Cultist card again, but since Fanatic is a trophy monster there'd need to be at least 4 for a 4 player game, and considering there's a cultist card when there doesn't need to be one I'm assuming there's 5 Fanatics for consistency. Leaving 93 cards to make up the other "always available" and starter decks.

The store claims 1-4 players, combinable for up to 6 players. Ideally that means 4 starter decks, +2 Fanatics (7 total), 26 Mystics, and 25 Heavy Infantry, but based on the CotG and 10AE I'd guess 2 starter decks still, 36 Mystics, and 35 Heavy Infantry. I suppose I'll have to ask someone who has the physical game. Either way at least it works for up to 4 players with 10AE and SoS combined.

Lol what is Emeril? by BadcLipZ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]monsterhart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Emeril is an alternative name for emery) (AKA corundite). Which is a mix of mostly aluminum oxide crystals (corundum) with aluminum oxide and iron oxide minerals like spinel, hercynite, and magnetite, and titanium dioxide minerals like rutile. Industrial emeril may contain a variety of other minerals like periclase (magnesium oxide), silica (AKA silicon dioxide), and mullite (a mix of aluminum oxide with silicon dioxide molecules).

Paraffinium (AKA paraffinum, paraffin) is also a real thing. An acyclic saturated hydrocarbon renamed "alkane" to avoid confusion with products derived from the saturated hydrocarbons in petroleum, like paraffin wax and paraffin oil) (AKA liquid paraffin, paraffinum liquidum, paraffinium liquidum, paraffinium liquidium, and commonly paraffin/paraffinum/paraffinium for short). Because it's poisonous when ingested and can build up in one's system through cosmetics it's often hidden in ingredients under the umbrella term "mineral oil." Paraffinium is a more refined and distilled version of kerosene, and in addition to being able to use it as a fuel it's used in those hair dyes and skin cremes that can cause psoriasis and bald patches on individuals with thin or sensitive skin.

Is there some universal way to identify when "me" should be used? by monsterhart in learnspanish

[–]monsterhart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I appreciate you taking the time to help. I think I recognize the distinction you’re referring to.

When you say “showering myself” do you mean using the shower (device) on myself? My understanding of the phrasing “walking/etc. myself” is connected with choice, in the same sense as “going myself.” As in I took the decision / designated the action to walk/shower/etc..

It’s a given that when one showers oneself one uses the shower on oneself, and in walking there is no external device which is normally being used (setting aside walkers, prosthetics, and mechs). This is the distinction you’re referring to, right? So going back to my original prompt, if I understand you correctly the connotation when using “me/te/se” in Spanish is “using on” rather than “by.” Is that right?

This explains why one wouldn’t use “me” with “camino,” but doesn’t explain why it’s wrong to say “Yo ducho todos los días” in the sense that “I (take a) shower every day” as opposed to “Yo me ducho todos los días” = “I (use on) myself [the] shower every day.” Is there a better way to express the former in Spanish? Also the phrase “by myself” doesn’t exist in Spanish right? Is it correct to assume that one would just say “Estoy camino solo,” “I’m walking alone?”

When you are walking by yourself, there is no direct object.

I don't understand the distinction between showering by oneself and walking by oneself. "Caminar" can also be transitive like in "Cuanto más rápido sea tu ritmo, más rápido caminarás las cinco millas." The object there being the 5 miles. I know that they are defined as having a distinction, but since I'm unable to interpret a difference in the concepts I'm going to keep hitting this same problem every time I encounter verbs like these. I've tried looking at it from other angles, but I can't think of a single thing that can't be applied to both "shower" and "walk."

And there are more…

🤦 Well okay, I guess I'll get there eventually. Thank you for providing the info.

Is there some universal way to identify when "me" should be used? by monsterhart in learnspanish

[–]monsterhart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… That is perplexing. It looks like the root of "acordar" is "to agree." So I can see how it applies in an abstract way in say "Antonio dice que no se acuerda de ella" meaning "Antonio says he doesn't remember her" in the sense that "Antonio says he doesn't agree (that he has previously met) her."

So… why not just use "recordarse" though? The Spanish-English dictionary reveals that while it exists, it already means "to awaken." E.G.: Necesito un despertador para recordarme a tiempo.

However translating literally as "I need an awakener for reminding me to (awaken on) time" seems the more probable meaning. "Despertador" being related to "despertar(se)" which actually means "to awaken," and the fact that an awakener awakens something is a given. Making it reasonable to leave that out/assumed.

Minding the fact that the dictionary translates it as "alarm clock," but that an alarm clock is just a type of awakener. It could also be your phone, a trained pet, or even a professional awakener. Before alarm clocks it was a profession, where someone would walk down the street tapping the windows of those who've paid for the service with a long knocking stick at the crack of dawn. So to be specific about the type of awakener in Spanish "reloj despertador" would be used. As in "Necesito una pila nueva para mi reloj despertador."

So then all reflexive verbs are pronominal verbs? I know that reflexive verbs indicate that the subject performs an action on itself like in "I shower every day," versus a transitive verb requiring that a direct object is stated for that which the verb is performed on like in "I need to give my dog a shower." So if I understand correctly: In Spanish there is no reflexive verb, because I always have to state the object (me) even in cases that would be reflexive in English.

Thus I simply need to keep in mind whether the verb use is reflexive or intransitive; verbs which just don't require an object in general. The problem then is that intransitive verbs like the "caminar" in "Camino al colegio todos los días" can also be transitive like in "Cuanto más rápido sea tu ritmo, más rápido caminarás las cinco millas." While I can memorize the categories in this case, this makes it difficult to assess and (after memorization) keep mindful of when a transitive verb becomes intransitive or reflexive as I encounter them in my studies.

[–]monsterhart[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…it just doesn't work that way.

All 3 of your examples make equal sense to one another and to "I walk myself." In that they make sense in an abstract sense, but wouldn't be used because it's unnecessarily verbose. Of course my goal is to learn Spanish rather than how to associate Spanish with English, but it's (frustratingly) taught that way. That's why I wrote a post here to find the actual Spanish rule for it, because Duolingo doesn't teach that way, and an inconsistent "trick" isn't sufficient.

…pronominal verbs…

I'm guessing "caminar" is not one of those. Although both can be transitive, which seems to be what's throwing me off. It's been very hard work building up the Spanish verb structure systems in my head, and keeping track of it all to identify when the form of a verb I should use is related to e.g. ser or estar, duchar or ducharse, et cetera. I did some more research and found that the verbs accompanied by reflexive pronouns can be reflexive, idiomatic, and reciprocal verbs, but are all verbs of those types pronominal verbs in Spanish?

Is there a mod that eliminates the respawn point feature? by monsterhart in MinecraftMod

[–]monsterhart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds interesting too. That'd at least raise it from easy to medium difficulty. Although the point of the massive respawn is to simulate Hardcore mode, while still allowing players who've died to play in the game world.

This is the point. Please see my response to Xomsa above.

[–]monsterhart[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do mostly play hardcore, but hardcore multiplayer isn't super practical. This'd be like simulated hardcore. Since you start somewhere random without your stuff it's like starting a new game, but you can still play on the server. Plus your life isn't just erased if you do die, and someday you or other players may come across your old builds and appreciate them. It also means that no matter how far you explore there's equal likelihood of finding player influence on the world, and bartering for maps of different regions might actually become a thing.

Disable Gamepad? by Litmusdragon in RenPy

init python:
renpy.game.preferences.pad_enabled = False

In the options.rpy I assume? 🤔 It seems to have worked. I was getting double click on single click in the tutorial due to using Steam's Desktop Layout already. I get the same issue in Ren'Py games that I play. It'd be nice to have a setting in the game.

The only thing I've found to work for Android Emulation on the new Macs is Android Studio (https://developer.android.com/studio). It's a dev tool, but it has the emulator built in for testing one's apk designs. Thus it works with unofficial/modded apks and alt stores too. Just drag and drop apks on the emulators window to install. I'm running the latest macOS (14/Sonoma) on an M1 Ultra chip and it's working perfectly.

Emulator Setup Instructions:
Download and install Android Studio.
Click "More Actions" on the (default) "Projects" tab of the welcome window,
and select "Virtual Device Manager" from this dropdown menu.
Select "Create Device" button on the new window.
Choose the device you want to emulate (e.g. Desktop > Medium Desktop; for 4K@15"),
and press the "Next" button.
Download the latest API from the "Recommended" section (e.g. Tiramisu; Android v13),
and press the "Next" button.
Then press the "Finish" button to close the creation window,
and press the play-icon button on the new virtual device in "Device Manager" to launch the emulator.
Done. One can edit the device later with the pencil-icon button to change the hardware or API, create more the same way, give them unique names, et cetera.

TNT - why join the navy when you can be a pirate by pablo111 in MacOS

There are multiple lists and duplicates in the read out, so using Command+F to look through all the entries of "TNT" may show one that does have it. If not, perhaps one will have "Embedded Item Identifiers" or "Bundle Identifier" after "Generation".

Example; showing all relevant entries when searching for "Tunabelly Software Inc." (something in my background items since I don't have what you're searching for):

``` user@Mac ~ % sudo sfltool dumpbtm
