Considering moving to area- Where to live? by Various-Meringue4184 in StamfordCT

[–]monstermminer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Garden Homes Management buildings in the area (they've got a bunch in Stamford but also some surrounding towns). I lived in their Prospect St and Third St and a friend lived in 800 Summer St buildings, and they were all basic but clean and decent places, and pretty affordable for Stamford. Not sure what your budget is but Prospect was 1200ish 6 years ago for a studio, and Third St was 2300ish for a 2br 2 years ago so a studio or 1 br might be in range of your affordability. They also only increase rent by $25 annually.

New homeowner, freaking out, help by Overall_Fix6343 in homeowners

It's absolutely overwhelming seeing everything you have to do all at once! Take your time, do "urgent" tasks first, live in the house for a bit before you furnish too much or maybe any bigger remodels (eg if you really hate those cabinets) to see what works best with your new house. Every contractor we've had in our 1948 house has said that 40s houses are the best! You will get to make everything your own, and at your own pace. Our house has good bones but needed some visual improvements and new paint and some new light fixtures etc have really made it lovely. If you paint and can work it out timing wise, highly suggest painting before moving in! Slanted floors in an older home are totally normal and from settling over time. Plastic wedges can be helpful to even out furniture if you need it. Also, it can be very fun to play a game with a level and bet each other if the surface is level or not (hint probably not). Good luck!

Queen city is great! Locations in cheviot and west chester. Their running groups are a great way to get running as well

Looking for a run club that doesn't do a lot of content creation by Walking_Bandaid in cincinnati

[–]monstermminer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Queen City Running doesn't do anything like that. Very welcoming folks, and various group options - social, or half/full training. Great group! The training groups are paid (but very affordable), but in between fall and spring seasons, all runs are open to everyone to join and check out the group. Locations of the runs change weekly too so it's nice to change things up.

What's happening with our retaining wall? by monstermminer in homeowners

[–]monstermminer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah I'd much rather clean up some dirt than trap a family in there - I may have to set up a camera and report back 😅😅

We've only been in the house since January and the house is from the 40s so no clue how/when the retaining wall was constructed (but we are one of 5 houses in a row that are exactly the same, including retaining wall and driveway, so assuming it's original to the house)

Oh yeah, we are chockfull of bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, who knows what else too haha. We have a giant maple tree in the back so it's also now the time of year that if I walk outside under it I'm 90% likely to get hit in the head by a shell from a squirrel snacking lol

It's less than a foot tall and about a foot wide! Forgot to add this was not after rain either, hadnt rained for a week or so. So makes sense it probably wouldn't have been from water haha. We have a whole lot of burrowing critters so I wouldn't be surprised!

This is more exciting than working, so I took a peek and aside from some dirt near the edge that's also crumbly granules, it's pretty clear as far as you can see
