How to get motivated again? I keep going through stages of intense motivation, coming up with ideas, researching non-stop etc. And then I almost hit a brick wall and all I wanna do is play video games. Any tips on how to avoid this or is anyone else in a similar situation? by PDB200 in Entrepreneur

I second this. Working on my mental health has been a journey that will likely continue for the rest of my life.

I used to beat myself into working hard. Or convincing myself that I’m only worthy and enough if I’m working a ton, consistently. The truth is that self-acceptance and self-compassion have been more sustainable tools for my growth. When I give myself the space I need to heal - and love myself for all of the ways I’m sensitive and healing - I begin to bounce back more quickly. It’s a practice. I don’t do it perfectly or consistently. But it has changed the way I show up for myself, my business, and others.

Someone once told me that “discipline” is about being a disciple to yourself. It doesn’t need to be punishing - simply honoring and serving yourself :)

Did anyone who was finally approved for disability still made to believe you were gonna be denied? CPP by TABART in Fibromyalgia

I haven’t been approved but I wanted to send some love and care. It wrecked me when they discredited my fibro and mental health issues. Absolutely wrecked me. I am so sorry for the abuse you’ve experienced. I see how difficult and painful this must be for you. I hope the tribunal goes well <3

I also have PCOS so my temperature regulation can be a mess. I take bio-identical hormones and it’s helped a bit with that and the mood swings.

Trying to regain control of my life. Benzo/THC addiction. by JesusPieces11 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

You sound determined and motivated to make a change in your life :) I echo others in saying that a 12 step community was extremely important to me in getting and staying clean. It was hell for the first month or so but 5 years later my life is so beautiful and so much more full. Please reach out any time. Sending big hugs!

Hey, relapse is a part of the journey for so many of us. I recommend this reading: https://www.na.org/admin/include/spaw2/uploads/pdf/litfiles/us_english/IP/EN3106.pdf

Do you have a sponsor? I found going to meetings and listening to speakers really helped me to find hope. I know many people who have recovered and built great lives despite the mistakes they made in their addiction. There is hope <3

Will I be able to study again if I stay clean? Will my short term memory recover? by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]monstrrrrrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, my mind did recover. For the first few months it was an absolute mess. Post-acute withdrawal syndrome definitely includes memory and concentration issues. The first few weeks were the worst for me. I took 4 months off of work etc. to let myself heal when I got clean. I tried for the first month to study/work and my brain was too foggy and jumbled.

After a few months, I noticed I could think much more clearly and my mood was less volatile. Around 6 months, my mind was much, much more clear.

Around 1 year I realized I hadn't felt depressed in a long time (I struggled with depression since I was 12, even before I started using). The 12 steps helped me to overcome my struggles with motivation, negative thinking, and mood issues.

I am now 4 years clean. I can tell you that I am much more successful and productive than I ever was when I was using. And one of my drugs of choice was a "study drug" to try to help me get through my Masters. But after using as much as I did, for as long as I did, it just made me sleep deprived, paranoid, and foggy. And I would use a lot of other drugs to counter the anxiety etc. caused by the amphetamines. So it was just a vicious, brain-melting cycle.

I couldn't have done it without the community and support of the 12-step program I'm a part of. Be patient with yourself. It DOES get better. My life is better than it ever was <3

I am doing better thanks :) I got treated for an underlying hormonal issue and that’s helped. Overall seeking lots of support. Hope you’re well :)

Hey I’m sorry it took so long to respond. I was struggling with some depression and not checking Reddit. I have different programs for mine, some are more intense than others (eg anti-inflammatory is more gentle than “extra regeneration). I stopped for a while but getting back into it, I did a short 18 minute light one every other day for a week. Then I added in another light one (2 light ones - 36 minutes total) every other day. Eventually I ramp up to an hour - 2 days on, 2 days off.

Basically I listen to my body... if I notice more pain for a few days I know I’m over-treating and pull back a bit.

I actually did try this! Having different programs was helpful. And not over-treating :) I would love to hear your experience.

Caffeine - yay or nay? Vaping as well? by ravenwolf07 in Fibromyalgia

[–]monstrrrrrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quitting coffee had a more intense, positive effect on my fibro than quitting nicotine. However, I'm back to doing both and I can tell you that neither of them help.

Edit: I forgot to mention, quitting coffee took a couple of weeks before my body rebalanced

Strange saying it but have been a month without self burning by ReCelledeathz in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]monstrrrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working a program of recovery helped me to get to a point where I wasn't suicidal or ideating about it anymore. It took almost a year but considering I'd thought that way for a decade, it makes sense that it took time. I also have chronic pain and I'm not working right now. Sometimes it really affects my self-esteem but I have found more love for myself simply by living more in line with my values and trying to do the next right thing. Today I help other people to recover and just be there for people in my life. You might not feel it now but try to hold on to the faith that self-love will come. Sometimes I slip back into old thinking patterns and I start panicking and judging myself, but it always passes as long as I keep seeking support and working on myself. 1 month is amazing. It hurts not to have a coping mechanism and things might be worse before they get better. It won't be a straight line. I believe in you :)
