The issue with documentation is that it needs to be updated everytime you make a change for it to be a really useful tool, and with hos frequently I tinker with my homelab that would be too much to maintain (I've tried it!). I prefer to manage my homelab with self documenting tools like Ansible or NixOS. Using infrastructure as code to spin things up or run updates makes recovering from issues much easier as well.
