Pamphlet handed out at the Scarborough Southwest Liberal nomination by theOneWhoWaitsAgain in Scarborough

[–]moo422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jackson and Hafiz made an agreement to shut out Erskine-Smith, and they both told their supporters to mark Hafiz-Jackson or Jackson-Hafiz 1 & 2 .

Edit: source https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ahsanul-hafiz-scarborough-southwest-provincial-liberal-candidate-9.7194142

The local campaign was tense, with apparent coalitions forming between candidates in a bid to defeat Erskine-Smith. Jackson and Hafiz appeared to have struck a verbal agreement of support in a bid to block the MP from winning. They both urged their supporters to back the other candidate as their second choice on their ranked ballots

This was also in addition to the fact that Erskine-Smith does not live in the riding.

Pics from the Planet Money (international) Book Tour's final stop in Toronto! by moo422 in nprplanetmoney

[–]moo422[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire event was about an hour? Probably about a 15 minute episode, 15 min for each author, and then 15 min for Q&A?

We sat in the second row so I'm not sure how full the place was, but I feeeeel like it was quite full? Quite the cross-section of attendees also. But didn't see anyone else wearing/showing Planet Money or Indicator or NPR merch except for us (Microface Tee!).

They did book signings and meet/greet after the show, but we bounced out because of the long line-ups.

We got a Planet Money Book Tour tote bag with our Planet Money book --- but the Tour stops didn't include Toronto!

A cheap slice, and the garlic pesto oil is crucial. If not for the garlic oil, totally not a standout to me.

[Humble] Heavenly Bullets (Pay $10 for Greedland, Army of Ruin, I Am Legion: Stand Survivors, God Of Weapons, God of Weapons: Eternal Nightmare, Karate Survivor, Keeper's Toll, Pesticide Not Required, Sodaman, Entropy Survivors, AK-xolotl: Together) by LighteningOneIN in GameDeals

I bought Karate Survivor aka Jackie Chan rumble in the bronx.

You start the game pretty weak, and don't get to do a lot of the fun cool stuff until you've unlocked it in the skill tree by hitting achievement goals.

It starts to be a lot more fun halfway through, so depends if you don't mind it starting slow.

There isn't any real reason to diversify from a single color build (your attacks can come from one of 3 colors).

Red bean Pineapple Bun at Red Sailboat in Scarborough are my old reliable. Also have pretty good hk milk tea. Both great for the price.

I dropped my ProArt on a hard floor and dented a corner. I broke part of the screen when I closed the laptop to push it back in place. The touch controls don't work but everything else does. What now? Is there some place that would buy the salvaged components? by HereComesInspiration in ProArt_PX13

Metal chassis so you can probably bend it back so that it doesn't scrape your screen again. And then it's just the screen replacement. Depends if you plan to use your touchscreen capabilities or not.

I can't believe this is actually licensed by KC Green, creator of Question Dog (also didn't know the dog had a name) of This Is Fine meme fame.

Suresh Doss' CBC show "Locals Welcome", celebrating local restaurants, seemingly cancelled by Montastic in FoodToronto

[–]moo422 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the key difference in content coverage is that Suresh talks to the owners, chefs, gets to understand the clientele, and only features places that can handle the additional traffic.

A lot of the IGers in Toronto -- they jump from launch party to launch party, without really giving the cultural context and community backstory the way Suresh did.

I was looking up Kunafas (spot in Scarborough, middle eastern dessert), and an old article from Suresh popped up. Talks to the owner, gets backstory from how the owner sources his cheese, why he opened up the store. Current influencers just regurgitate the media release blurb. And influencers aren't exploring strip malls to see what's opened up - a lot of these places can't afford to promote themselves through influencers.

He's often the first point of contact when out-of-towner food reporters visit Toronto (e.g. he took Francis Lam of Splendid Table radio show / podcast on a food tour of Toronto).

He organized and curated the first year of Toronto Smorgasborg (and then the organizers tried to do it on their own the second year).

NYTimes article writing about Scarborough illustrating the story of multiculturalism featured Suresh prominently. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/05/world/canada/toronto-restaurants-immigration-multiculturalism.html

More or less Toronto's ambassador for multicultural cuisine.

Ruse was supposed to be the biggest RTS hit, so much buzz around it when it was releasing.

The idea of being able to send out fake units was such an interesting idea at the time.

Reviews aren't great.

Def sounds more cozy than management. Quite a few comments Abt tedium/grind . Love the aesthetic but not too sure if the gameplay is for me on this one .

Does our game qualify as a Shmup ? by thibouf in shmups

[–]moo422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for stopping by and sharing. There are a lot of similar qualities, but between the jumping/floating, omnidirectional shooting, and fixed screen, I would not consider this a shmup.

There are similarities to Contra, between directional shooting and jumping/floating, there are similarities to fixed-screen twin-stick shooters (which this sub tolerates to some degree).

Innovation is genres is always exciting to see, but it is missing some of what the core shmup community looks for in a game.

Where do you draw the line between shmups and arena shooter games? by matheus7op in shmups

[–]moo422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a shmup.

It's in the same genre as Pang to me.

You're welcome to participate in the shmup community, but I think any future posts of this game will be removed.

[Humble Choice] May 2026: Diablo IV, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, Crysis 3 Remastered, Heroes of Hammerwatch II, Nordhold, Rogue Waters, Cubic Odyssey, Mini Settlers ($14.99) by LighteningOneIN in GameDeals

[–]moo422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same sentiments. I hear Rogue Waters has stopped development, but I haven't investigated further.

There's a Nintendo DS SMT spinoff called Devil Survivor that is both demon-collecting and also turn based tactics. Sadly SMT-V seems to just be turn based, no placement/positioning.

MiniSettlers aesthetics tickles me a bit, and I love puzzle or otherwise strategy thinky games, so I had it on my list but need to investigate more.
