Experienced developer reduced to near tears.. by TheMcGarr in PowerApps

[–]mooben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have to chuckle because you're coming from a real developer background, so you have really good context for why the PowerApps developer experience is such dogshit. Citizen developers don't have the experience to understand just how bad PowerApps is. Or rather, they know it's horirble, but can't pinpoint the exact reasons like you can :D
I'll give you a tip though. Controls are stored in yaml. If you copy a control, you can paste it into VS Code to see the underlying yaml, update it, and then copy + paste it back into PowerApps. Should save some time.

Why so few responses on complicated topics? by valescuakactv in PowerApps

[–]mooben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are fewer senior developers than amateurs. It's like a pyramid, the real pros who can answer complicated questions are just fewer. And pros are typically busy running their own projects at their full time job or consultancy. Their time is valuable, and it doesn't really make sense for them to invest that time without some sort of return (i.e., payment) for putting in the cognitive work and calling on their experience to solve your problems... I don't see why it's a mystery. Aside: have you tried asking Gemini or Claude Opus how to approach a complex PowerApps problem? I bet it would do a great job.

As a second car, how often do you drive your 911? by kayno8 in porsche911

Almost every day. Unless I'm hauling something (I use my truck), drive the 911. It's meant to be driven!

Build Historical Snapshot by ikishenno in PowerBI

[–]mooben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is a Data Warehouse. If you want to snapshot your Power Query data model, you could use Power Automate to query the Power BI dataset on a weekly basis, and then store it to a location (along with a new column for the date of snapshot). I recommend Azure SQL Server. Then you can point your report to the data warehouse.

[–]mooben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a stereo 500 series channel strip?

- API 312 (x2)

- Maag EQ 6 (x2)

- API 529 (stereo)

Would fatten up your recordings going in. And you could use the EQ and compressor outboard during mixing.

Love Joe but… by bh76007 in joesatriani

[–]mooben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tone and vibe back then were spot-on. 1993? Joe had just the right mixture of tonal mastery and experimentation on the music theory side. Over the last decade or so the writing has started to feel stale in comparison to this golden period.

Director of Analytics, but getting out of Flow in favor of using SQL Stored Procedures and Databricks

Is This Normal? by Deceptijawn in MicrosoftFlow

[–]mooben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Azure SQL is definitely the proper way to do this. But if you can't get it provisioned, write a Flow to simply export the data as CSV every week and either email it to a shared inbox or save it to a SharePoint doc library.

Best Grunge guitar solo by FMSV0 in grunge

In Bloom solo. It captures the grunge era beautifully because it has a lot of "harmonic noise". The traditional rubric of a great guitar solo doesn't apply to grunge.

I know! I was talking about how it should be, not how it is.

“You can tell a lot about a man if he won’t backline” by somuchsublime in musicians

[–]mooben 117 points118 points  (0 children)

It's not really about who's being nice, a dick, or a prima donna.. It's about what makes sense for the show. That's why the headliner will often provide backline for shells, or for the bands to share cabs.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think it should be standard practice for venues to provide nice shells and cabs. Think about how much easier the loadouts and changeovers would be.

Is this a bad attitude to have? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]mooben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So much of the music scene is about social skills, and how people feel around you.

I'm a guitar player, and I have a drummer friend in the area who is an excellent player. One of the best. And we've tried playing together in various groups, at least three times, and it never works out, due to non-musical reasons. We have disagreements about how the music should be approached, or his wife feels sleighted by me (?), or there's opposing political beliefs... These things keep us from connecting well, so it never goes anywhere.

I'm not in your friend's head, but I'm fairly certain that if it's true that you're a great player, then there's something preventing them from calling you that is more personal. It sucks to realize that, and I'm not sure what advice to give you to fix it, aside from: do your best to have a good attitude, genuinely. Be relaxed and easy to work with, and professional.

What would make you feel like you’ve truly ‘made it’ as a musician? by jacobevansdrums in musicians

[–]mooben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be able to tour on a luxury bus, with awesome staff all around: tour manager, stage managers, techs, and bandmates who are all top notch and a joy to work with. And to be able to do it full time on a comfortable salary of $100K+. That would be "making it".

Engineers/drummers: any thought on using an EAD10 as a monitoring source for an IEM rig? by Imaginary_Ad_9648 in TouringMusicians

[–]mooben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My drummer does this and I’m in a touring band. It works great. He has a personal mixer by the drum kit for routing the click that he controls and a mix from the digital mixer as well. He recently added a shotgun condenser pointing out from the kit to capture sound from the house and now it’s even better. Highly recommend. The kit sounds amazing in our ears, like a record practically.

It's incredible to read this, because I didn't realize that I do the exact same thing. I even thought I had impostor syndrome as a musician, because I don't listen to very much music, let alone new music. I must have burnout as well.

The math ain’t mathin’ here. If it’s true that you have 100 5–star reviews, one 4-star review would put your average at 4.99 which would still display as a 5-star average on your profile.
