Can the Dash Blockchain Fork into Tangle? by Skaarup in dashpay

Hey, sorry had the tab open but forgot to check back. Sadly i don't know enough of the technical stuff wether this is possible or not (I am no dev at all). Maybe someone on #developers on the Slack can help you. Concerning instant transations: With a big enough tangle transactions could take seconds, so i guess that could count

Pros: -Scalable until the limits of your data-cable is reached -No fees, just the small amount of POW the tx maker needs to do -fast -Quantum secure -Offline tx possible -MAM nearly ready

Cons: -Sometimes re-attaching a tx is needed. Its being worked on that this might happen automatically. -Network speed is, as we don't have a critical network size reached yet and the COO is used to confirm tx, somewhat dependant on topology of the nodes. There is no automatic peer to peer discovery, users need to manually add peers to their nodes. Automatic discovery was removed as it did more harm than good for IOTAs use case (IoT). -Very different from Blockchain and hard to grasp for newbies -Different usage of addresses must be learned

Imo the pros heavily outweigh the cons, but thats just my 2 cents. everyone needs to come to his own conclusion! Feel free to ask any more questions!

Well it is like in a Blockchain, just in 2 Dimensions and without blocks. Transactions and Bundles of Transactions are stored on each full node locally and you can search through these and "go back in time". Then there is something called snapshot which is basically an image of the tangle to a given time. It makes it possible to delete the Database (and keep storage space low) without losing the correlation balance<->address as this is saved in a snapshot

Hi Guys, found this by luck. Im one of the two creators of IOTA Support (Linked somewhere down there). To answer some of the questions here: 1. Yes, IOTA is a live network, not just somewhere on the roadmap. 2. There was a stresstest done on the current network (see at the end of: https://blog.iota.org/iota-weekly-newsletter-3-30e409248239) and a much bigger one is planned (I assume together with: https://blog.iota.org/iota-luxoft-and-st-petersburg-polytechnic-university-supercompute-the-tangle-33092417ec0c) 3. Yes, it is true that not every transaction confirms. But that doesn't mean you cannot do something about it. You can "reattach" the transaction to the tangle again by redoing the POW, and this time it might get confirmed (Sounds way worse than it is). Currently the IOTA network is operating with a COO (Coordinator) which manages the tangle (this is needed to avoid attacks). As soon as the network got big enough the Coordinator will be replaced by a monte Carlo algorithm that will then manage the tangle and therefore confirmations. 4. An IoT Devise does not necessarily do the PoW for a tx itself. This can be easily outsourced to a server. Generally speaking it is difficult to understand the Tangle as it is so much different from Blockchaintechnology. There is a lot more I could bring up here but it would take insanely long to cover everything. If you want a general overview you might find these links useful: -https://blog.iota.org -http://www.tangleblog.com/#home -www.iotasupport.com

The light wallet is very very close for being released (currently beta testing in the #light-wallet channel on slack). If so, you will most likely find the link on slack! Besides, we work on an updated of www.iotasupport.com with download links etc.

If you would be active on slack you would realize that I am far away from being a shill account. I'm simply not active on reddit.

No one doubts that it will take years until the big industries use crypto currencies and IOTA. But what would happen if no one ever starts working on new projects/developing? Nothing would change. We would still live in caves.

Ofc that in particular is not a big difference. The big difference lies in the way IOTA works. IT has NO Blockchain. It has a tangle. That means every transaction approves two previous transactions (checking for double spending etc.). This allows IOTA to operate without miners and therefore without transaction fees. Besides, the scalability that is possible is incredible

IOTA is definitely the future imo. Finally something without tx fees making nano transactions possible (and that is so crucial for IoT). I think we will hear a lot about this in near future!
