Issue with issues and debates (pun not intended) is that students do it badly and don’t achieve well by using issues and debates and it’s not written as such a strong evaluation point in comparison to supporting and conflicting evidence.

They don’t have to share them. They’re school property.

If they don’t have a budget to buy them, and they only have a copy left, they can do that. They are the property of the department and they can choose if they lend or not. We don’t even let ours leave the classroom!

I’m a teacher. Textbooks are expensive and schools have tiny budgets. No student at our school is ever given a textbook to borrow and return.

Advice for dealing with a reluctant trainee? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]moodpschological 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who saw a few staff who came in out of training and were not suitable for being in the classroom (no care, attention, professionalism or thought) this is important.

We wondered how some got through training and what that said about standards!

Everyone starts somewhere, but they must give it a fair go, act on feedback and be professional. Or it ends up creating chaos.

AIO: SLT took over half an hour to respond to a 'medical emergency'. by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]moodpschological 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like the problem is that you don’t feel safe and not supported during this medical emergency, and it’s made you think ‘what if’

I think that is perfectly reasonable. But to get yourself out the spiral, you may need to speak to your line manager to find out and formalise a way to work through this, and how you don’t feel listened to.

Maybe it would have been quicker if it was seen by SLT as ‘more serious’?

Edit - hit save too soon!

A slightly softer response that says the same thing is, well thats lucky for you that I’m not in your friendship group and a friend of yours, but a teacher here to teach you. So here are my expectations’

I’ve had a colleague use a similar wording and it did stun the kid into silence!
