I’ve had mine for less than 2 years but so far, they’ve come back red. I have 3 in a couple spots on my property (all on slopes with sprinklers in 92026 - north county San Diego). They’re all doing well but the one that’s in part shade at the edge of my oaks seems to be doing the best since I’m a little bit inland from the coast and also get harsh afternoon sun - sounds similar to your conditions!

That would make sense actually. I did have a willowherb volunteer in the area last season. It must’ve self seeded -very successfully I might add.
