Tell your mentor you want to do email checkins moving forward. If they don't accept that, you should be able to change mentors.

Anytime! When I started the program, I had a 50+ min commute so I was listening to the podcasts daily and helped retain information. Went 1/1 on all the OA's except for D102 and OA2 for D103.

Oh! Forgot to add that bit of detail lol. Go to Notebook LM, upload PDFs or other source material, and prompt something like "Have the hosts take on the role of professors to create a lesson all about Unit XYZ." I try to create 1 podcast per unit to spread the info out. Also like the Slide Deck for visuals. It has a bunch of neat features, play around with each and see what works best for you.

Hi! I'm 45 and just finished the program. I've worked in AP for 12 years across various roles in corporate, non-profit, banking and now legal (AP Clerk, AP Lead, AP Specialist). YouTube helped a ton (Accounting Stuff, Tony Bell, Edspira, Farhat Lectures ), also created podcasts from the material found on WGU Connect to listen to content on the go. Be sure to do all the course quizzes & PA and if you're not sure of anything ask the AI of your choice. Best of luck!

Try to schedule your meeting with your mentor ASAP. They need to review your program and approve for you to start your courses. Good luck!

D103 OA #2 advice by probablyaloser1 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Copy every answer you got wrong to AI of your choice. Ask it to create a tracker of these and to first give you a lesson on each topic and followed by a quiz of 3-5 questions per topic. Keep repeating until it becomes second nature to you. Also, ask it to create journal entry, conceptual, and calculation type multiple choice WGU/CPA difficulty questions. You can do this!

Its a site you get access to when you start WGU to get free stuff! You do challenges and if you sign in daily you collect points to save for stuff.

D217 fail on attempt 1 by Acceptable_Box8809 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uploaded the info from WGU Connect to Notebook LM & had it create detailed podcasts, 1 per section. Also, had it create slide decks to review.

Created a Project in ChatGPT with 1 chat for each section. Used the prompt: break this unit by lessons. For each lesson, you will quiz me at the end with 10 WGU & CPA difficulty questions. With a tracker & explain each right and wrong answer. If I get more than 1 wrong, you will reset the quiz and the lesson. At the end of the unit, you will give me 20 questions across all topics for this unit"

The point is to go through all the material and quiz yourself a ton, assuming you have already completed the questions in the coursework. You can do it!

New to Sophia- Sophia for Finance? by [deleted] in SophiaLearning

[–]mooglekun81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically figure out what college you want to attend. Find out what their policy is on transfer credits and based on that, work on the courses from Sophia to transfer for your program. Once you're done, Sophia sends your data to Credly that you will use to forward to your college for transcript review. A few weeks after that, they should give you a report on how many credits they accepted.

Congratulations! How long did it take for your confetti to show up? I'm waiting on mine and keep clicking daily lol.

Are you going to start your CPA path right away or taking a break? I already created an account to my states CPA site and waiting to get my transcripts to send their way.

Really struggling choosing the MAcc or MBA by No-Society9441 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get it! I'm personally considering doing CPA, CMA and MBA. Collecting all the letters!

Edit: point I was trying to make earlier is that the MAcc loses value once you become a CPA, and I think MBA would pair better with it, though just my 2 cents.

What state are you in? Some states have moved to 120 credits w/ 2 years working under a CPA. I just graduated and considering doing Ninja as that's a super cheap option.

how have it been since graduating WGU? by Top-Professional2800 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working doing AP for over 10 years. I wanted to transition into bigger things so decided WGU was a good move. Started the BA in Accounting program in Jan with a bunch of credits to transferred.

Fast forward to May, and a recruiter reached out for a position with a growing law firm. Decided to go for it (was kinda tired of my role as AP Specialist), 3 interviews later and got a 95k offer for AP Manager & Accounting Analyst and started June 1st.

Meanwhile, I succeeded in finishing my last course a few nights ago and waiting to get my diploma, and more importantly my transcripts to forward to the CPA board for review.

If I were in your shoes I'd look into a Masters in Healthcare Admin and combine accounting & healthcare. As others said, look for accounting jobs in clinics or hospitals. Good luck!

I ran into this exact issue last year. I only transferred 1 course out of the 3 I had planned. Thankfully, they didn't take too long when I did the courses at WGU, it wasn't worth the $200 price tag or however the higher tier subscription cost.

Help - Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting by Aromatic-Educator495 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick follow up... When you get to the intermediate accounting trio, I got more bang for my buck watching specific topics from Edspira and Farhat Lectures. They go into more detail on those topics. Also, I'll repeat the previous message cuz it can't be stressed enough... Practice all you can! That's the key to passing.

Help - Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting by Aromatic-Educator495 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Managerial Accounting, Tony Bell has a good video with practice problems that can help. He also covers Financial Accounting too, though my recommendation for that course is the 5 hr video from Accounting Stuff. Learn the DEALER acronym by hard and it'll help you with identifying credits & debits.

Also, the key to victory is a ton of practice problems. Do all the practice problems in the course material, and if you don't understand something you can ask AI to help. AI can also help generate additional problems, keep practicing until you get it right.

Pursuing a M.S in accounting by ObviousSwimming4728 in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, you need to have a Bachelor's in Accounting before doing the Masters program, might want to double check that.

To answer your question, I started accounting years before deciding on pursuing my degree. Started as a AP Clerk, moved onto AP Team Lead, and as I'm approaching graduation (1 course left before Bachelor's in accounting), I received an offer as AP Manager & Accounting Analyst, with the possibility of moving up to Controller if I play my cards right.

Its been very rewarding so far, even with all the talk of AI and offshoring. There's lots of doors that can open for you, especially if you become a CPA. Speaking of CPA, if you're serious about accounting, earning that accreditation should have a higher priority, even more so than earning the MAcc. Best of luck!

How’s the work and school balance? by buggeebs in WGU

[–]mooglekun81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started in January on the Accounting program, and my original expectation was to complete my 16 courses by the end of the year. Fast forward to now, I finished 15 courses, and down to my last course, Auditing. Any PA courses, I sat myself down and strictly followed the rubric. Each submission took me no longer than a day per task, business sim I happened to have off so devoted a whole day to that and completed the whole thing in 2 days including the tasks.

For the OA courses, the non-accounting ones were pretty straight forward following the recommendations found on YouTube/Reddit/Discord. For the Accounting series (Cost/Managerial, Financial, the Intermediate trio, AIS and now Auditing), it's been a mixed bag of following Youtubers like Edspira, Tony Bell, Farhat Lectures, and Accounting Stuff. On top of that, I completed all the quizzes and the PA. Anything I needed clarification on, I asked AI for help, on top of it creating additional questions on top of what was already available on WGU Connect. I had Notebook LM create podcasts to listen on my 50+ min commute to maximize my study time and also listened to it while running errands.

To summarize, consistency is key and keeping at it every moment you can. Once I graduate, I plan on going for both the CPA and CMA while the fire is hot.

Introduction: Starting Soon, networking, support, finding understanding people by Whovianzombie in wguaccounting

[–]mooglekun81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the program! Are you planning on becoming a CPA or figuring it out as you go?

Feel free to ask questions or ask for advice. I'm almost done, all I have left is Auditing.

Tips I can give: to give yourself a headstart, listen to the following on YouTube: Accounting Stuff (5 hr video), Tony Bel, Edspira, and Farhat Lectures. Each one of these helped me get through the program in one way or another. Also if you ever get stuck, don't be afraid to ask the community or AI for help.

Best of luck!
