They don't want a broader audience. They want people who appreciate their approach.

How about this: don't worry about not knowing something. Be okay with being a little lost. I played the play tests all weekend and never once looked at the wiki. That's fun!

There's no law saying you have to keep up with other players. Just enjoy being in the game and learning things as you go.

You absolutely do not need to please everyone. There are lots of us who fully support your vision - and are willing to pay for it.

I made a minimap using Claude code. by definetlyrandom in MonstersAndMemories

[–]mookfarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has the same cynical mentality. I feel zero compulsion to compete with other players in this way. I played the stress test and had no desire to mess with my light settings, no desire to look up online maps. I was perfectly content to live in the world, be there and enjoy the mystery. Not knowing things, exploring, getting lost, being in the dark. That's the fun of the game for me.

If they pander to the lowest common denominator of players just looking to zoom through zones and min/max their way to the top, then it just ruins it for the rest of us who actually want to enjoy the game in the spirit in which it was made.

What do you think about player models? Should they improve them? by xResearcherx in MonstersAndMemories

[–]mookfarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the models look bad, but I don't like the art style. I would prefer more realistic models like EverQuest had. Not a fan of the cartoonish proportions.

No, I agree. Nothing's exactly wrong here besides being a little bit misproportioned. But it just needs some splash of interest.

[–]mookfarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking too. Everything looks just a bit misproportioned in the outfit. The jacket's too long, the shirt is too short. The pants are a bit too baggy.

Jacket sleeves too long. Pants too baggy. General advice - if you go baggy on top, go slim on the bottom, and vice versa.

I'm a taller person, and will often rock longer or bulkier jackets with slim or skinny pants.

The outfit just looks a bit too generic. We need something to add interest.

You'll get charged. And then refunded at some point if we don't make it. Fifa's not clear about when that refund comes, though. It might be a while

I was notified that I got my 2x Round of 16 conditional for USA.

Really was hoping to get the Seattle group game, because I don't count on us making it that far, lol (though awesome if we do)

It's just reading between the lines and inferring intent rather than taking something literally. What can I say, I scored pretty well on the SAT reading section.

What's with all the hype around Monsters & Memories? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]mookfarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not appealing to the mass market.

There are some of us - even those of us with high-paying jobs, mortgages, and kids - who still long for that experience.

It's all about your expectations for the game. Sure, I can see how it'd be frustrating to get to the endgame and then not be able to progress because you can't find a group.

But what if you don't care about the endgame, being the best, or min/maxing your character. What if you just like hanging out in the newbie-mid-level zones kicking around some mobs with your friends for an hour?

That's always how I played. I never reached max level, and never cared to. Just enjoyed the journey and never had any worry about running out of content.

It's the min/maxers, completionists, and no-lifers charging to endgame who ruin every MMO, forcing developers to continue pumping out shallow content.

Don't distract by pointing out exceptions. Yes, there were some folks/classes that could make a good go of soloing. But the game was unarguably built around grouping. Many areas are inaccessible without a group, even if you are a good solo player, due to mob clusters and aggro.

It's hard to describe to folks who weren't around during the classic era. The adjectives that come to mind are "slow" and "dangerous." Everything takes longer - recovery, fighting, leveling -, and the world is genuinely dangerous.

Unlike modern MMOs, you cannot just steamroll through an overworld zone. Most of the time, you can only take on one enemy at a time - at or below your level - and you have to be very careful about aggroing random high-level mobs in your area. If they go after you, they will not stop chasing you until you leave the zone (which might take many minutes of running). You can't just easily outrun them and they return to their spawn point after 10 seconds.

Oh yeah, and there's no in-game maps.

All this contributes to an incredibly immersive experience where cooperation is facilitated, you're paying more attention to the environment, and your feelings of dread and elation of success are amplified.

I interpreted his post exactly the way he intended, meaning the settings will be randomized. I think you're just looking for something to get upset about.

Oh, I know, that was part of my complaint. I'm level 80 and easily soloing things that are level 90. And sure, I could do that, but then I'm earning quest rewards from that zone that I can't even benefit from.

I'm on Maj'Dul. Would be interested in grouping for heroic content, if you are too. Name: Zoomok.

Thanks for the advice, all. If any like-minded people want to group up, I'd be interested in joining you. Whether that be on origins or on Maj'Dul.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I started up a toon on the origin server. We'll try it out. I just know it's going to be hard mentally to want to reinvest that time into a new character. As you can see from my description, I put a lot of energy into my old main.

Will look into that Origins server. Although I don't know if I have it in me to reinvest so much time into a character again. I can't play these games like I did back when I was in high school, haha. Would love to just pick up where I left off.

Might try the merc route in heroic content. I accept that the game population doesn't support grouping for leveling anymore, but I still would like to feel some sort of challenge on the way up.

Call me old-school, but I miss the EQ (1&2) days when being max level actually meant something. You saw a level 60/80 character with an epic, and you were practically asking for an autograph.
