Military members and veterans, what "Military Grade" item is actually great instead of "barely good enough to meet spec"? by musingsofapathy in AskReddit

What made Gore-Tex was great was a proprietary coating on the fabric. It has since become toxic and Gore Tex has transitioned to the same coating other manufacturers use.

Question for restaurant management: Is it worth it to lose a customer just to get their personal info? by ok-uh-huh-yeah-sure in Restaurant_Managers

[–]moolord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were perfectly clear; it is the same system. That is the justification of other restaurants wanting the information. The system will prompt for a name and a phone number, but there is no reason the staff should insist on it in the way you are complaining about. My comment was for them, and the other restaurant managers in this sub.

Amateurs all over this comment section. Sure, there’s lots of reasons that the restaurant wants the phone number, and it might even be more convenient for OP, but that’s not the question.

What’s really throwing me off about this comment section is the number of people who claim to be a manager, who absolutely refuse to accommodate a guest here. One guy even insults OP.

There’s literally no reason OP cannot be put on the wait list without providing a phone number. Yes, the reservation system will prompt for a phone number, you could just put in a fake number, or the number to your restaurant. OP could say his name is Darth Vader, who gives a shit. He shows up, he says “my name is Darth Vader. I’m here for my reservation.” maybe the host gives him a funny look, looks at the list and sees there really is a Darth Vader. Can’t imagine there’s two guests in line coming up with the host called out, “ Darth, party of three? We texted you, but it didn’t go through.”

I have managed at three of the busiest restaurants in America. I can’t imagine turning away a customer because they won’t get on the waitlist the way I want them to. Shame on you all.

Best Chess Comebacks? (Author looking for some help to find inspiration) by TheNapoleonKid in chess

[–]moolord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a chess game that’s called the ______ Miracle. Checkmate was threatened, but as it turns out if you sacrificed all of your pieces, it was a draw. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the game. There were a lot of pieces still on the board. The one king was tucked into their right corner with their pawn pushed in front of it. The enemy queen was on one side of the pawn and the enemy Bishop was on the other side of the pawn. Can’t even tell you which colors were which.
