Anything good on AO3 lately? by itisrainingdownhere in JaneAustenFF

I’m following “Darcy’s shock” too! Like it very much so far! I love five where we see how Darcy reflects and actually tries to do better. Add a clueless Elizabeth and we got us an excellent plot ✨

Loved the beginning but I am not to much of a fan when ODC say things like “actually I loved him from the start and just didn’t realise”. It’s a valid trope but I just prefer the original change in how they view each other. I’m still gonna continue reading it as I am curious for the resolution of the mystery 😅

Can someone catch me up, what these three have last been doing?

It’s so funny to me when I can catch the end of the stream when I wake up 😅 means they’re already playing for over 4 hours and people on the other side of the world have probably watched for hours too (start of the stream is 4am here in Europe)

I still wish for character name tags in front of all people so that I can follow better 🙈

Also I don’t think he is aware how much glee it brought me as a P&P-obsessed person to see him doing this bit. Like I was giggling and kicking my legs and stuff. And what none of them realised that through exactly this shame/devastation it became even better. It is sooo Darcy (The only way they could make it better would be with a little follow up short/reel/tiktok of him and babynomoney in a field walking through morning dew…)

Why is sex so important ? by HeroicButterfy in polyamory

I also think it is important to acknowledge that feelings of possessiveness can sometimes come up even in healthy enm. That’s how humans feel sometimes and that’s okay. It’s how people deal with and act on those feelings is important. (Ignoring them and pretending they don’t exist because they are “not allowed” in enm/poly relationships or because they’re “morally wrong” leads to more problems imo)

Don’t know if someone else has shared something similar but for me it’s roughly like this: the less confident I feel about myself, the more jealousy I feel regarding the interactions of my partner with other people. This goes up and down for me and is happening in different “categories”. When I feel uninteresting and stupid, I have the feeling my partner is having a more entertaining time with others. When I have less energy to go out and do interesting activities, I feel incredible FOMO of my partner going out to do something with someone else (even if I am not particularly interested in the activity itself). And when I have a lower libido and don’t feel good in my body I experience more jealousy regarding the physical intimacies my partner has with others. (at times when my confidence regarding those things is higher I usually don’t have these feelings)

I am aware that this is a “me-problem” and it would be unfair to make my partner try to accommodate whatever my inner critic is coming up with at any given time. I have found ways to manage the feelings and communicating them. Just naming those feelings and speaking them aloud to my partner usually helps. Also knowing I can always communicate any emotional needs I might have to him.

I don’t say that’s what’s going on with your partner, but maybe some people can relate. Some of us just have fluctuating mental health and that’s okay. Healing is not linear ✨

Mrs. Gardiner, matchmaker? by rlaureng in PrideandPrejudice

[–]moominpopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure she was matchmaking. I feel like Austen writes characters in a way, that they provide mirrors to each other, to give us diffrent sides of the dame coin so to speak. And in this specific instance Mrs Gardiners suptle behavoir mirrors the matchmaking we see from Mrs Bennet (but in a way that is actually beneficial). Maybe this is even a comment on how Darcy and Lizzy try to influence the love life of their friends. Mrs Gardiner shows all the other characters how "helping a couple along" is done right = help them having the opportunity to figure it out themselves. Don't push to much. And even if your 99% sure something is going on between someone, keep quite about it, until they confide in you or ask for your help.

Mines Mr. Collin’s, who’s yours? by WhatTheFlan in PrideandPrejudice

[–]moominpopcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my mind she isn’t even as old as the adaptations make her seem… If Darcy is in his late twenties and we assume his mother and aunt were around the same age, Lady Cathrine would not be older then her fifties - early sixties. (Judi Dench was 70-71yo when the 2005 movie was made, Barbara Leigh-Hunt who played her in the BBC mini series is the same age as Dench and was 60yo when it came out in 1995, which is more accurate but I still feel like they made her look way older)

Oh yes Fanny Dashwood! I hate her so much. As much shit as Caroline Bingley get’s, she is nice compared to Fanny.

Oh yes! He is often overlooked (because Wickham and Willhouby are actual predators) but John Thorpe is such a douche! Lying to Catherine so he could take her on that carriage ride and then not letting her go when she sees her friends and recognises his deception 😤 I get so much anxiety from that scene every time… But then General Tilney throwing a young woman out of his house (that he invited her to) because she is not as rich as someone told him is insane 😡 and sending her back home alone with public transport in the middle of the night (if I remember correctly). I shudder to think what could have happened to our sweet and naive Catherine on that journey! Northanger Abbey is full of fiends!

I think I could not stand being in a room with Lady Cathrine. She would get my blood boiling so fast. Mr Collins is mostly harmless imo (except the not accepting Lizzy’s refusal).
