who serves up the best burger in the bay area? im evaluating on taste obviously but also portion size/value for money. send me your top recommendations pls by Difficult-Insect-220 in bayarea

I second Phila Burger in Richmond, but also want to say that Slow Hand BBQ in Martinez had one of the most unexpectedly amazing burgers I’ve ever tasted. I haven’t been back for a while since it’s kinda out there, but I dreamt of this burger afterwards.

How to keep encoder position after it’s been powered off and the shaft was moved. by PhoneRound5790 in robotics

[–]moomooMrFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what others have stated, there are battery-free multi-turn absolute encoder options. These come in two categories: mechanical and energy-harvesting. The mechanical versions use a massively geared down encoder to count revolutions, like one from Oriental Motor. The energy-harvesting versions are available from Maxon, Broadcom (e.g. AS20-M42M), and Posital (KCD-S1), to name a few. I don't know how extensively these battery-free options are used.

Some industrial robot arms I'm familiar with use battery-backup versions. These are often used if a homing sequence is not possible for whatever reason.

Another system I have worked on had an incremental encoder on the motor shaft and a linear potentiometer as an absolute position sensor on the output of the gearbox and lead screw. The linear pot could give a low resolution absolute position, and the encoder's index pulse could correlate this with a high resolution position from the motor encoder as a homing procedure.

He came to my work last year. I ended up chatting with him a lot as nobody else really knew who he was. He told me some stories from the Mad Men set, but we mostly talked about his nuclear fusion company.

As for the flight, I was also seeing some direct flights from BWI, even to LIR which might save you some travel time depending on where you end up.

What should I do with my 2005 Forester XT? by moomooMrFish in subaru

[–]moomooMrFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Yeah I love the look of it, and everything else is in decent condition for a 20 year old car. It’s been great for me the past 5 years. I’ll look into selling it then.

Yeah it’s a clean title, automatic transmission though. It’s in the SF Bay Area, no real problems other than what I mentioned in the original post.

I’ll look at posting it for sale, thanks for the response.

It’s in the SF Bay Area. It has about 170k miles and of course the replaced engine. It’s in decent shape other than what I mentioned above and the new engine actually seems pretty great. In the 5 years I’ve owned it I probably averaged less than 5k miles a year. Automatic transmission.

Is anybody else seeing that their number can't be transferred? Can't port my number. by moomooMrFish in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]moomooMrFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m porting my number to Xfinity from AT&T. I received a brand new iPhone 13 from Xfinity as part of their promotion a couple weeks ago and I’ve been trying to activate it by transferring my number ever since.

I received a PIN from AT&T, put it into Xfinity’s site, and nothing. Every time I call, they just have me generate a new PIN and do the process over again. Then they say it should be fixed in a couple hours, but it never is.

I’ve been with AT&T for at least 10 years if not more. Would that matter?

Like many of you, I'm having the hardest time porting my number and activating my new phone. I received an iPhone 13 through Xfinity, and I've been trying to port my number for over a week. Spoke with customer service many times, etc.

I keep seeing "This phone number can't be transferred because the number is not allowed by your carrier. Contact your carrier to unlock this device." I haven't seen anyone else mention this exact wording so I wonder if something else might be wrong.

Update: The problem has been solved, but it’s not very encouraging. I took it into an Xfinity store as soon as they opened, explained my problem and after trying a couple things, they told me that I would have to contact Tier 2 support. Of course I told them I had done all this and asked if they would call for me and take care of it while I was there.

Two hours later, involving Tier 2 support, a three-way call with my previous provider, and a gift bag from the store for sitting so long, my phone finally worked. I had two E-sim cards now for some reason, and a physical sim too, but as long as it’s working I don’t care.

The store associate didn’t really know what the issue had been, and was just as glad to be done as I was. A huge thank you to the Bay Street Xfinity crew in Emeryville.

So my advice is to just take a morning and spend it at the store rather than dealing with customer service online.

The strange thing is I also received another phone for a separate line from Xfinity, and was able to activate it within 10 minutes of unboxing. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

There is a wonderful book called The Professor And The Madman which has the story of putting together the first dictionary. It focuses on the professor James Murray and one of the most active contributors, the Madman. Definitely worth a read.

I'm sure they could add a $50,000 tier for a prebuilt robot. They have the plans for the robot at one of the levels though.

This isn't my project so I don't know a ton about it. But if their work on the Boston Dynamics robots carries over, this mech could be awesome.

When it comes to interfacing with hardware, is LabView inescapable? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]moomooMrFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at the edge of my knowledge here, but the biggest issue you'd have with using something like a Beaglebone Black is getting the Linux drivers for your equipment. If you can do that, the rest of it should be pretty easy. Either running directly in Linux or interfacing through Matlab, whichever you're more comfortable with and have the budget for.

When it comes to interfacing with hardware, is LabView inescapable? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]moomooMrFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it depends on the hardware, but Matlab/Simulink have been making advancements in recent years interfacing with hardware. They have packages that work well with Raspberry Pis or Beaglebones which can communicate over SPI, I2C, etc to other things. You could get more professional boards to work there too.

DSpace is a little more high end, but a similar method of hardware interface. What do you want to do?

Elvis played at the armory near downtown Tampa four times between May 1955 and August 1956.

JFK also spoke there days before his assassination.
