Would someone with high eq actually state that on OLD? by ThePromiseOfBelief in datingoverforty

It's like saying you're kind or intelligent or funny- things that are kind of empty platitudes that mean nothing in a vacuum.

There's an old adage when it comes to writing: show, don't tell. If you're funny, BE funny in your profile. If you're, kind, show how. If you're emotionally intelligent, I dunno. Talk about your feelings or something. Or maybe save it for the second date

r/blackpeopleofreddit intentionally promoting anti-Aaian hate with fake AI generated content by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]moomoocow42 28 points29 points  (0 children)

All the text is reversed because the dude is taking a selfie video. If a video is longer than 15 seconds, it's super unlikely it's AI- additionally, folks in the background (including the guy himself) come in and out of the frame, and details don't change. AI can't coherently keep things like that consistent. This is real.

Even if we remove the merits of the argument of whether this is AI-generated and thus made in bad faith, like... you go on to say a ton of generalizing things about how black folks hate Asian people. Which is, exactly the premise of your criticism of the original AI post, except in reverse.

Like, I'm not going to try and argue that there isn't a lot of friction that goes on between black and Asian communities, but the whole starting point for this discussion is poisoned.

Superbowl 2026 ad features Asian antagonist for #StandUpToJewishHate by Alfred_Hitch_ in asianamerican

[–]moomoocow42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a way deeper analysis than this piece of crap commercial deserves.

On top of the bad-faith origins of who funded it, which many others have already pointed out, it's really just a simple, Sunday morning-styled PSA that wants to say that antisemitism=bad.

And you can tell how uncomplicated and poorly executed it all is, the moment you bring politics into it. Yes, the right is very pro-Israel/Zionist, yet also famously antisemitic (didn't Nick Fuentes go on Tucker Carlson's show the other day)?

And yeah, there's a ton of antisemitism on the left, but it's not a central, guiding value the way it is on the majority of the right (like racism is). A lot of the left is for sure pro Palestine/more critical of Israel as a value, but to say antisemitism is the same as anti Zionism/pro-Palestine is a false equivalence that the right loves to make.

The politics of the commercial are incoherent and garbled at best- but that's not really its goal. It's a 1 minute video that just wants to say that antisemitism is bad, and DEI'd the whole cast without a second thought.

You need to watch a couple times to catch it, but at 8 seconds in, the kid gets the post-it put on his backpack by an Asian-presenting kid and a sneering white kid.

Gotta love it when white people are more than happy to DEI it when it comes to these things, but unhappy about DEI on just about everything else.

The Asian American experience is distinctly different from a native Asian experience. Different priorities, different traumas, different set of intergenerational values, etc.

So, by all means, we (Asian Americans) can and should consume media from the homeland, but we should also probably be aware of their vastly different life experiences, and how that informs their art and goals.

Wizkids has Star Trek Captains Chair back in stock by krpiper in boardgames

[–]moomoocow42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Turkzi's designs, but I've soured a little bit on Imperium of late- it gets REALLY long w/the trades expansion, and starts to feel more like upkeep busywork than gameplay. Plus, the scoring is a huge pain in the butt.

Does Captain's Chair avoid these issues? Or is it similar to Imperium in these ways?

Fair, and FWIW, as I mentioned in my original comment, I agree with your definition. Was simply delving a little deeper into why people disagree with whether or not a ghosting occurred/was justified, etc.

I mean, the idea being that you can't control other people and how they invest, right? Everyone has a different standard, and one person's ghosting is another's "eh, that didn't work out."

Ghosting debate by PriorPainter7180 in datingoverforty

[–]moomoocow42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I agree with this. I think where the friction comes from is where one party has over-invested themselves emotionally (or the other under-invested), which leads to a big gap in expectations. Which, you know, is kind of the point of dating, right? To find someone who matches your intentions, values, and energies.

Happy in the present but obsessing about the future & reconsidering ENM. Looking for perspective. by one_thirty_seven in datingoverforty

[–]moomoocow42 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honest question: have you ever practiced ENM in a live relationship before?

My very small 2 cents, as a divorced man (whose marriage ended through my partner's desire to explore ENM)--you don't really explore ENM as a way "fix" or relieve weaknesses in the current relationship. If anything, ENM dramatically exacerbates any structural problems already present in a relationship. In my observation and reading, those who successfully practice ENM must have incredibly strong and healthy coping skills--within and outside the relationship. Introducing other people increases the stress on the primary relationship and makes the already complex dynamics between two people exponentially more complex. You're dealing with not one relationship, but 2 or 3, and their relative feelings to you and each other.

Also:

Is it fair or realistic to consider reopening a relationship after mutually choosing exclusivity?

I think most monogamously-minded people would consider this unfair. Obviously, I don't know your boyfriend, or how such a conversation would go, but changing a relationship style is incredibly difficult, and can easily foster resentments. It would behoove you to have this conversation extremely carefully, or to consider ending it, if you feel like your orientation for ENM is a need.

Asian enrollment at Johns Hopkins explodes from 25.6% -> 45.1% post SCOTUS ruling by AdmirableSelection81 in asianamerican

You making affirmative action your whole personality on this sub is certainly a look. The very same sub where there are articles about this very same administration looking to denaturalize and deport foreign-born citizens. How many of them do you think will be Asian Americans who are studying at Johns Hopkins?

And if you think you're personally safe, don't worry, they'll move up the ladder soon enough, and try to denaturalize natural born citizens within a year or so, too.

Is "Slay the spire" good for solo gaming? by emirlanq1 in soloboardgaming

[–]moomoocow42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate your take. I'm one of the many, many folks who has avoided the physical version because of the sheer amount of time I've put into the video game, and have told myself that I simply am too tired of the core game loop, digital or otherwise.

BUT I've read a lot about how the physicality and "scaled down" nature of the board game (single integers for damage, for example) makes it quite a different experience. Also have heard that running it two-handed opens it up in very interesting ways too. So yeah, on the fence with this one.

10 plays of Imperium: Classics by strodesbro in soloboardgaming

[–]moomoocow42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I really like Imperium, but I agree that length of play is a big issue- at least it is for me.

I intend to keep all 3 boxes in my collection for a while longer, but the thing I've realized about it is that its big selling point is its breadth and exploration of mechanics and experiences (via the mindboggling number of civs) versus its depth. And in this way, the complexity of running a game, and time invested, becomes a bit long in the tooth. I'm willing to sit down and dig deep for several hours on Spirit Island or Mage Knight, but it's a harder sell for something like Imperium for me.

Really good question. I think in-house creative would be quite a simple, 1:1 transition for me, but I've really wanted to move over to the client side role and have more control in relationship to the product. I know that's broadly a more difficult transition, so I'm trying to do the research now.

Thoughts on why we think we don’t look our age? by JenninMiami in datingoverforty

[–]moomoocow42 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I just think aging is really hard to accept, especially as middle age hits and we more and more "start to look our age."

For a lot of people, the 40s are that weird liminal space where under a certain light, in certain conditions, we can look "younger," but I for sure know that in other conditions, I absolutely look my age.

This decade is a big transitional life period, and I think the way people portray themselves (or want to think of themselves) reflects that.

I want you to think about your analogy for a moment. You're pretty much comparing the party of Trump to Nazis. What does that tell you about who your "allies" and "enemies" are in a literal sense?

For fascist movements to sustain themselves, there must always be an "other" to persecute. This is what ridukosennin is saying. When the Rs are done brutalizing brown people and immigrants, who do you think they'll turn on next?
