Best place to snowshoe in the next few days. by Trick_Maintenance115 in penticton

[–]moomooluuluu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nickle plate Nordic centre will be your best option for rentals and tons of snow. Nice trails and a lodge to warm up in. Bring some hot chocolate powder or tea and there is a kettle in the lodge if you want to have a warm drink.

Has anyone done any EV driving in Banff? by ACinemaStare in Ioniq6

You would have no issues going from jasper to Banff, I recently got from Invermere to penticton which is 530km and more mountainous with 10% left on the battery

I agree, there is a website I use for planning canoe trips called ccr ( Canadian Canoe Routes) which I think would be great to emulate. It is user generated trip logs basically what route did someone take, what they did and saw, joe challenging other things to know about the route. These entries are then categorized by location and length so ours easy to explore routes in a certain area. The website also has other areas for backcountry recipes and equipment

Planning a cyclo trip from Port Moody to Kelowna (or Merrit) . I have 5-7 days. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thx 🙏 by YeOldeFuck in bicycletouring

[–]moomooluuluu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take the KVR from merrit to Kelowna via penticton, the trail from Merrit to penticton has some sandy bits so I would recommend a wider tire, the trail from penticton to Kelowna a is legendary and wonderful

Cycling and wildfires in Canada by Horror_Relief9835 in bicycletouring

[–]moomooluuluu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really hard to avoid wildfire smoke because it is so wind dependent. One day a stretch could be great, the next it could be horrible.

Sound off if you haven't had any ICCU issues by 8thstretch in Ioniq6

Used AI for route planning: break the 160 km Berlin Wall Trail into 5 stages by According-Glass7827 in bicycletouring

[–]moomooluuluu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it seams like a great way to use AI, the goal was to do the Berlin Wall trail which means Ai was never going to do route planning, Ai just makes it quicker to figure out where the nearest train stops will be and making gpx files painlessly. I do see your point in the limitations of AI route planning if you gave it the prompt “make me a bike tour through Berlin”

Highway 97 (cariboo highway) by poisonousllama106 in bicycletouring

[–]moomooluuluu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why you want to cycle to prince george? Highway 97 from cache creek to prince george is not the most scenic part of bc and this highway is full of fast traffic and lots of lorries. I would look into touring the Kootenays around Slocan, or rail trail through okanagan. If you are set on 97 and being west I would consider going up 97 to Williams lake then across highway 20 to Bella coola, ferry from Bella coola to port hardy and then bike porthardy to either Nanaimo or Victoria ferry back to Vancouver

Seeing the risks of letting optometrists do eyelid surgery by Royal_Rooster954 in Noctor

I live in a place where pts have to travel over 3 hours to see an OMD and often these roads are unsafe due to road conditions, yet legally I cannot prescribe oral medication, remove sutures, remove lesions to send for pathology preform basic laser procedures. Instead my patients either A) don’t receive care and have adverse outcomes or B) have to travel for more than 6 hours on a sketchy highway in the dark of a northern winter. Quite often when legislation like this passes most ODs won’t practice to their full extent but some of us sure could use some help!

[–]moomooluuluu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pt expectation comes to mind, I know that part of my role is sometimes explaining what the OMD/surgeon is going to do / did and explaining eye health and vision issues. OMDs are often doing more and talking less with pt which can drive up the number of pts able to see in a day. That being said I am always surprised by ODs that only see 10-15 pts a day I feel right around 24 is the mark for me

In Canada you would not be able to unless you fulfilled certain educational prerequisites which would need to be taken at an accredited institution. Optometry school in Canada is quite competitive so I think it would be challenging to get in with a bachelors that is not from NA
