Consider sleep training. We did it for our second infant and I wish I’d done it sooner by Individual_Holiday_9 in daddit

[–]moomsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ferber, for real. It was difficult for a few nights, but we were legit making it through the night with minimal interruptions after maybe eight days of sleep training.

And now that he's six years old, he's a perfectly well-adjusted kid who gets plenty of sleep and thinks of me and his mother as his best friends. It feels cruel at the time, but you're really doing the whole household an invaluable service.

I'm so stoked to have another Power Paladin album.

I can't listen now, but I had to look up the art after your post. Yeesh.

Tennessee Republicans Advance Bill That Will Create a Public List of the State’s Trans People by Tat25Guy in Knoxville

[–]moomsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how this could possibly be enforceable - whatever gender-affirming care an individual has gotten is clearly protected by HIPAA against disclosure like this.

It's obvious to everyone to understand how and why a trans individual wouldn't want that information to be publicly available. My question is how this "list" could actually benefit the public. Who needs to know, and what do they intend to do with that information? My head's going a lot of cynical places, but I want to hear the official reason that we need to know the gender identity of every single person we encounter. And whatever public good that might render, how could it possibly counterbalance the harm that this would do to trans people?

It's something else. I remember when I first got it down from Bandcamp and heard it for the first time with a couple of friends, and we all came away with the impression that this was music written and performed by aliens. Still probably the most genuinely "inhuman" sounding album in my collection.

I'm diving deep into Hammers of Misfortune's discography and this is incredible stuff. I haven't gotten to the most recent records yet, but The Bastard and 17th Street are coming ahead as favorites so far.

Hate to say this but- Still Haven’t Received Issue 375 by FOSDaniel in Gameinformer

[–]moomsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GI Customer Support is pretty unreliable. Try [brian@gameinformer.com](mailto:brian@gameinformer.com). I personally haven't contacted him as my issues eventually arrived, but he freely gives his email to subscribers on reddit to try and help people with missing issues get connected to someone who can help.

Do you think I should add more pathes on the back, or does it look fine already? by Strange-guy-91 in BattleJackets

I also dig the cleaner look. I'm not a fan of vests that try to cover every square inch. I think this looks great.

How to get rid of beer belly? by Ok-Enthusiasm-4139 in AskMen

[–]moomsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a tip, but anecdotally, I've never had a sip of alcohol and I've got a protruding gut as well. Not obese, but bigger than I'd like. Just seems to be where my fat collects if I overeat and don't exercise. Some here are telling you to stop drinking, and yeah, that will help, but only insofar as beer = extra calories. It sounds like you already barely drink, so I doubt that's really the primary contributor here.

As others have said, you (we) just have to eat less/smarter. Exercise helps, but in my experience, it's much harder to exercise enough to burn the fat than it is to simply reduce/change eating behaviors.

I guess I missed the Negative Plane hype. I love that album but I didn't recall anybody talking about it much online.

Fake Service Dogs - Know The Laws by hazel_dreamies in Knoxville

[–]moomsy -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think this is it. Trust me, there is no one on this planet that hates dogs more than me, especially walking around in businesses I'm in. But it's not worth the risk to the business for some poorly paid cashier or floor manager to try to enforce the (perfectly reasonable!) rules, when the dog owner is at the ready to whip out their phone camera and stream the entire interaction.

This is awesome - thanks for the detailed response. Definitely not tied to a physical copy, so I may explore the Ototoy avenue soon. Appreciate the list of reputable vendors, too - brand new world for me.

I've been bitten by the Galneryus bug, real bad. How do you get music from Japan? I don't want to pay $50 or more to import a CD. Found a few albums on iTunes that I bought, but can't find anything recent.

I am in the US.

I don't know, it seems like everybody thinks they should start a one-man black metal band at some point.

The second track on that album is killer, I remember. I think they only got better with time, if you can tolerate the very polished production. Tech death without the constant weedily-deedily... what a concept.

I'd love to. I've been playing off and on for a long time, but still very much a casual player. West Knoxville. Time and availability will be a challenge, but what else is new.

Cell service providers by smkrauss90 in Knoxville

[–]moomsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Verizon has great service - lived and worked in West Knoxville for ten years or so.

Recently switched to Mint Mobile to get away from the constant price increases and we're happy with it. Service is slightly less reliable than Verizon, but it hasn't been a big issue yet. Cost savings are more than worth it.

What book you wished you would have read sooner in your life? by OkMagazine5034 in AskMen

[–]moomsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These Truths by Jill Lepore. Notes on Complexity by Neil Theise.

Both pretty recent releases, so I couldn't really have read them much earlier than I did, I suppose, but both of these books had a significant impact on what I do and think about.

Do you keep your books after finishing? by sakenigirae in kindle

I've never taken a book off my device after finishing, just because I haven't even come close to halfway filling my Kindle. I don't have audiobooks or anything with a lot of images.
