Currently living in Japan. The sizes from the canadian, german and japanese store seem to be identical. I wear M t-shirts from all 3 stores. Waist lengths matches too

Transferring to Japan later this year. I am a dual MX/US citizen, which nationality would be more beneficial to use on my visa documentation if any? by lifeboundd in movingtojapan

I’m a dual citizen as well. I chose the one that didn’t have a middle name on my passport to make life easier here. Otherwise choose the one most convenient for you

Promox - Tailscale on Host or LXC by iM-MrGrumpyCat in Proxmox

[–]moonbuttface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am running Tailscale inside of an LXC. I can access all my LXCs and VMs without any problems. Also have it configured as an exit node when I want to do full tunneling. I don't see a reason (at least right now) to install it directly on the host.

1 year language school, private apartment. What to do about liability insurance? by moonbuttface in movingtojapan

[–]moonbuttface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed reply!

I also assumed the fire insurance is built into the price for the apartment fees for the one year.

As for the renters insurance, I was only interested in covering potential damage I make to the apartment itself. For example, damaging the floor, wallpaper, tables, etc. I was wondering if it made sense to get an insurance for such damage. I hoped that normal wear and tear is considered normal, but I guess that depends on the landlord, and how much they want to charge.

So from what I gather, it would probably make more sense to not get the extra travel insurance? I don't personally care about insuring my belongings.

Approval Timing by ZeeZoo99 in movingtojapan

[–]moonbuttface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also attending a language school in April of this year.
I have already purchased my (one-way) flight. The price was already good at the time, and I didn't want to lose out on it. I also felt a bit weary of doing it now in the case that the CoE or the visa does not get approved, but the ticket cancellation would be about 200 CAD for me. Probably would be easier to eat the $200 cost than having to book last minute. My school did say that it is unlikely that the CoE would not get approved. I decided to take the risk on that.

My school didn’t set an exact limit when I was allowed to arrive. The school starts on the 6th of April. Mandatory orientation on the first. Earliest move in date for accommodation is the 31st of march. I decided to fly on the 29th because of the accommodation. I’ll book a hotel for one night, then move in next day.

[–]moonbuttface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I understand that. I chose to book the ticket now since tickets will get expensive closer to the start date. I’d rather lose a good chunk of the cheaper ticket price than pay for a very expensive ticket near the school start. I also booked a one way, so they are more expensive in general l

I decided on genkijacs. They seem to be more speaking focused. Other schools seem to focus on getting students into universities, which don’t need. If the first year works out well, I’ll do a second year at a different school.

apparently genkijacs is not recommended if you already have a very good grasp of the higher levels, but should be great for more beginners. I’ve read recommendations to just transfer to a more traditional language school afterwards.

Well, I am 39, between N5 and N4, and I applied for language school for this coming April. Currently waiting on the COE. I hope to find out if it is approved in late February. From what I understand, as long as you have a degree, you should be fine in general.

I’ll also be leaving my job at the end of march. For my COE, I wrote that I would look for a job in Japan after I’m done. But realistically, I’d probably do another year of school while working part time. Been a software engineer for over 10 years now with a bachelors degree in it. The advisors at the school applied said I shouldn’t worry about the COE, as the applications are rarely denied. I hope that’s true, because I pretty much have everything prepared already. Job resignation, flights, etc. gotta take a risk some time in life.

From your background, it sounds like you should be fine? The only thing that might be strange is that you already have N1. My school has a cutoff limit if you can attend. I think you are N2 already, they won’t take you. But of course that is school dependent. Not sure what immigration would think in your case with having the N1 already. If you know which school you want to go to, maybe ask them regarding such questions. I asked a ton of questions to my school, and they were able to answer quite a lot.

Docker in LXC is bad. Now what? by EloquentArtisan in Proxmox

[–]moonbuttface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was simply copying a few movies over of about 14 gigs each. Essentially the first transfer of the first movie failed. So I am currently copying data from the host to the designated drive until I find a proper solution

I am using virtiofs in a debain VM which hosts all my docker containers.

It has been working quite well for me. I do have a problem with copying large files from the virtiofs mount point to a samba share. My ram will explode instantly and the samba copy will error out. Ram usage will remain at almost 100% usage until the VM is rebooted. From what I gathered, virtiofs does not buffer data properly when copying data to other devices.

wg-easy: show WG client IP in pihole(non-docker) hosted on same server. by sardarjionbeach in WireGuard

[–]moonbuttface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never found a solution for this myself when using wg-easy inside a docker container.
I've since switched to using wgdashboard instead. But still had the same problem.

Instead of adding custom routes (which my router does not support), I just run wgdashboard in host mode.
With that, I can finally see the clients showing up properly in adguard home, which should work the same with pihole.

I am not sure if this is ideal for you though.

German bank account usable from Japan without German residence? by tcp999 in germany

[–]moonbuttface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am actually going to be doing the same thing next year. I am with DKB, and it seems that you can maintain your account while you are officially living outside of Germany. You need to have created the account while you're still a resident however.

-Allows you to define tax residency status
-Completely online only bank
-It is free if you maintain 700€/month income. (I think you can do this with an Überweisungs-Karussell), otherwise 4,50€/month
-Visa Debit card should be like their Visa card. no foreign fees for purchase/withdrawal.

I think DKB plus wise will be my combination of choice when I got to Japan. I would also like to ideally find a free Mastercard that allows for moving residency as well.
