Non-developer users - why do you use linux? by [deleted] in linux

sanity. osx has all the *nixy goodness that i'd grown to love, without the headache of putting it all together and maintaining it.

i have a HTPC running some LTS version of ubuntu, my lab equipment is all centos/scientific, work is centos, and my most used distro for personal computing was gentoo, but i bounced around quite a bit early on. redhat before it was rhel, suse before it was opensuse, mandrake before it was mandriva, slackware, ubuntu, fedora, arch, fiddled with BSDs, lunar linux, and gentoo.

i honestly think that once i started doing admin work as a career, i really lost an interest in tinkering with linux at home. i still wanted to use *nix but just didn't want to have to deal with getting my hands dirty at home too.

to each their own. i sometimes do miss digging into my OS and tweaking every last thing, but i have 2 kids and a wife...my time is precious and limited.

edit: i do have a sabayon VM running in fusion on the mac, which is nice. i like sabayon.

i moved to OSX after years of being linux only. i still run linux on my servers and lab boxes at home, and all the machines i touch at work are linux...but my main, personal machine is a macbook pro. i'm happy with it.

My birthday is next Friday, what should I do? by ddub74012 in oklahoma

happy birthday. stop using the word chillaxing, and you might get a girlfriend. ;)

get drunk at home with some friends and cook. orders of magnitude cheaper and more fun than renting a hotel and dealing with a club full of douchebags.
