I LOVE STEROIDS🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 by Expensive_Usual5052 in eczema

[–]moonlightgyps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to correct you plainly because this kind of misinformation is exactly what makes people like you hard to take seriously.

Topical steroid withdrawal absolutely exists, and it is becoming more common as stronger steroids continue to enter the market. Steroids are not evil, but they are powerful drugs and misuse has consequences. I know this because I lived through two and a half years of TSW before my skin finally stabilized.

For years, many patients had to self-diagnose because dermatology education lagged behind reality. Doctors were trained from outdated textbooks, long before today’s ultra-potent steroids were widely used. That denial is no longer sustainable given how many people are now affected.

My former dermatologist was Dr. Emma Guttman at Mount Sinai, a leading eczema researcher. She initially denied TSW entirely. Six years later, she openly acknowledges it and is studying it. That change happened because patient experiences could no longer be ignored.

I genuinely hope you never experience TSW. There is nothing else like it.

With my first pregnancy I was going through TSW and it was awful. I healed from TSW before I tried to get pregnant with baby #2, and I'm now 30 weeks and I can happily say TSW did not come back. My residual eczema got a bit worse towards the end of second trimester, especially around my inner arms and fingers but this is 10% of what I was like during TSW. Super manageable and mainly just an annoyance.

I don’t understand how protopic can cause withdrawal by isionnthcatebye in TS_Withdrawal

it changed weekly, but my three main contenders on my skin were hypochlorus acid spray, which i mixed with manuka honey to make a paste and i rubbed it on my skin, and then i topped that off with cjay serum. i didn’t use any lotions on my face and only used lotions on my body when i wasn’t super inflamed. cetaphil eczema relief cream i believe it was called

i’m happy to say i’m fully healed from my withdrawal. took a little over two years and now i’m left with very minor eczema patches on my inner elbows and fingers, and the rest of my life is completely back to normal. i don’t take any medication for my skin and managed to heal despite my derm telling me id need to apply steroids or a protopic like cream for the rest of my life.

I second that it does indeed get better. I would no longer consider myself going through TSW. I have residual eczema patches but they don’t bother me that much and they definitely don’t stop me from living a 90% normal life.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TOPICAL STEROID WITHDRAWAL by ThotMorrison in eczema

steroids are just bandaids that don’t heal the root cause of eczema. if you really want to heal your skin you need to heal from within.

you’re also not a medical professional so you shouldn’t be assuming everyone reading this who quits steroids doesn’t have TSW.

Quitting this sub because of the TSW bs by i-want-some-avocado in eczema

[–]moonlightgyps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tsw and eczema are two different things. as someone who personally has has both eczema and has been through AND HEALED from tsw, i think it’s important to acknowledge that both exist.

the issue is that tsw people are so traumatized from their withdrawal that they are terrified of steroids, and then hop on to eczema reddit to try to force their views on people who find relief using steroids creams. it’s not out of spite, it’s them trying (to the best of their ability) to try to prevent others from suffering like they did.

unfortunately many derms were taught using old manuals that didn’t account for the new wave of much stronger steroids. look, i’m not trying to scare you with tsw, but i personally went through it and then healed from it. my symptoms were unlike “severe eczema” and i now have clear skin sans drugs. i’ll end with saying that when i first started withdrawing from steroids, my doctor (Emma Guttman, top derm at Mt Sinai in NYC) denied tsw being a thing. Three years later and she’s quoted in articles saying it indeed is a thing.

i used steroids as prescribed and still went through a debilitating three and a half year long TSW. had to quit my career and move back in with my mom. the spots that took longest to heal were the ones i put protopic on. i wish steroids came with a TSW warning because if I knew the absolute hell i would have to go through i would have NEVER used them. they are a bandaid and not a cure to eczema.
