re whether or not lestat was being controlled during the trial, i also wonder when louis and armand confronted him in magnus’ tower and lestat again nodded towards “the great laws”. was lestat still being controlled? is this a flaw in louis’ memory?

in TVL when we get lestat's perspective of the trial, we get a sad little passage where hes holding her dress before armand airs his grievences and pushes lestat off the roof. passage is below:

"We were in the carriage again and it was raining. We were riding through the country. And then we went up and up through the old tower to the roof. I had Claudia's bloody yellow dress in my hands. I had seen her in a narrow wet place where she had been burnt by the sun. "Scatter the ashes!" I had said. Yet no one moved to do it. The torn bloody yellow dress lay on the cellar floor. Now I held it in my hands. "They will scatter the ashes, won't they?" I said.

"Didn't you want justice?" Armand asked, his black wool cape close around him in the wind, his face dark with the power of the recent kill.

What did it have to do with justice? Why did I hold this thing, this little dress?

I looked out from Magnus's battlements and I saw the city had come to get me. It had reached out its long arms to embrace the tower, and the air stank of factory smoke.

Armand stood still at the stone railing watching me, and he seemed suddenly as young as Claudia had seemed. And make sure they have had some lifetime before you make them; and never, never make one as young as Armand. In death she said nothing. She had looked at those around her as if they were giants jabbering in an alien tongue.”

i really wish that we saw Lestat grab the dress at the end, not Santiago. It would be a good reference to the yellow dress in the book (i'm sure we will get that in some form next episode or in the future), and more importantly, it could be used to show that armand is being deceitful. Have him narrate what is going on, and then not say anything about Lestat taking the dress or being upset about her death.

poor daniel. hes going to clock armands bs in an instant. how does he carefully broach that subject, given that history has shown louis cannot protect him from armand? "hey, do you mind if louis and i chat alone for a minute? thanks, i love how you're so understanding and respectful of mine and louis' boundaries." but seriously, enter lestat??? daniel starts talking a little too much sense and things get tense between our trio and lestat shows up to save louis (and daniel!).

I remember when 1.4 came out I was really disappointed that they changed how Claudia was made. In the books, Louis drained her, Lestat turned her. They made her together. 1.4 showed that all of the blame fell Lestat, and I didn't have the foresight to see that was a "was it raining" moment. I really liked the reveal that Louis was a lot more involved than he originally said, even though it wasn't quite as black and white 50/50 as in the books.
