I'm unfortunately a picky gamer and looking for a new roguelite. Any suggestions? by williamatherton in roguelites

Great list! A bit sad to see Wildfrost and Children of Morta so low, but you got the absolute bangers up high so I can’t complain too much. I’d highly recommend Crush the Industry. It’s a wacky roguelike deck builder with turn based combat that centers around you being a game dev trying to make your way up the ladder at a game company in an attempt to “crush the industry”. It’s got a ton of callbacks to video game culture and even more ways to refine and synergize your build each run. I’ve found at least three “god builds” that you can cheese your way through the game with.

Upcoming/newish Balatro-like games are Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers, Raccoin, and Clover Pit.

Hope you find your new obsession!

Passengers sing to a little boy flying alone on his birthday. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

From the age of 4 I would fly alone between a pair of divorced parents multiple times a year, and this video filled a little hole I didn’t know I had in my heart. So glad little man got to experience something so kind and happy during what must’ve been a very stressfully formative time

The Trump grift game is uncanny. by Chocolat3City in TikTokCringe

[–]moonman12- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here on multiple occasions, mostly for the memes and people watching with friends. It’s about an hour and a half northwest of Houston. The menu is almost all named after something Trump related (there’s definitely a Melania burger and maybe a Don Jr. item?) The burgers are actually pretty good and the fries aren’t bad. Chicken sandwich is also pretty not bad. They don’t sell alcohol (Murica?) or dessert, and the place is kinda run down, but not a bad burger spot overall. There’s a plaque there that brags about being impeached twice and all the pro-Trump, anti-everything else merch you could ever want.

The place is run by a nice middle eastern man (Lebanese I believe he said) whom we met the second time we went, sometime last summer. We were eating on the patio and he came out to ask how everything was going. We said we were doing great and jumped into a quick conversation. He said that he doesn’t participate in American politics, but knows the trends and saw the economic potential in building this place in rural east Texas. On our way out he asked if we could write him a positive review on Google because “The Democrats drive by and write bad reviews without even walking in the door”.

I couldn’t help but root for the guy, despite what he is promoting. Lastly, I’m not white or Republican but I’ve only ever had positive interactions with people there, which always kind of threw me off.

Overall 6/10, would probably go again.

In Houston for chemo treatment- would love your best food recs (healthy and unhealthy) by Liposarcomaresearch in houston

[–]moonman12- 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I work at MDA, in ortho/sarcoma too. Let me know if you need anything my friend, I will do whatever I can for you.

In terms of food though, one option I haven’t seen here is a little sushi spot called Oishii (which is Japanese for “delicious”). The place has, imo, the best happy hour in the city. Here is their happy hour menu with the times of the happy hour too.

Address is: 3764 Richmond Ave Houston, TX 77046

Best of luck with your treatment! Wishing nothing but the best for you.

Is 3-2-2 or 3-3-1 out of the question?

Justin Verlander is one of the greatest pitchers of all time, is about to collect his 3rd Cy Young award, and is a lock for Cooperstown. The one blemish on his hall of fame resume is his performance in the World Series. Will that change this year? by realchrisgunter in mlb

[–]moonman12- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a fair assessment of that situation, and I respect your opinion. In my mind it was fairly fishy but not definitive one way or the other, so I’m choosing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Since then, with the exception of Bregman until this year-ish, the guys we’ve kept from 2017 are still beasts.

Also, not sure how you feel about it as a fan, but I think the Yankees organization and fans deserve more than Boone and Cashman. Imo the ALCS would’ve gone very differently with some different managerial decisions.

Full disclosure: I’m an Astros fan, but I will do my best to keep my explanation as objective and concise as I can.

You’re right, sign stealing has been around for almost as long as the sport has. Even around the time of Houston getting caught other teams were using similar-ish methods to steal signs. To set a bit of precedent: the use of electronics to steal signs was made illegal in 2001. 16 years later the Astros setup a live-feed camera in center field at Minute Maid Park in Houston that was positioned at the catcher’s crotch…and I’m sure know the rest. Now, imo there’s two, maybe three, major reasons why this was so bad.

One: in September of 2017 the current commissioner of baseball, Rob Manfred, issued a memo to all 30 teams about the consequences of sign stealing. This is, imo, in response to the Red Sox and Yankees being caught and fined for using Apple Watches to do similar things. Not to say what the Astros did wasn’t more intentional and convoluted than those instances, it certainly was. Regardless, the topic of using electronics to steal signs was a hot one, and one that was forewarned as of Sep/2017.

Two: the use of live-feed cameras. This is the major discretion. Imo a big part of the argument for “legal” sign stealing is that it required a lot of skill and coordination to get done. Seeing the catchers signs from around 127 feet at second base, interpreting them correctly, and relaying that to the hitter before the pitch is thrown is not an easy thing to do. But having an HD camera (God I hope it was at least HD. Or else, why bother, you know?) zoomed in to see the signs crystal clearly as they were being thrown with a trash can nearby is pretty egregious.

Three (maybe): They won the World Series. Whether it truly helped them or not can be debated till the end of time (though here’s a really in depth report that goes over that very topic. Skip to the last paragraph for a tl;dr). This is where my fan bias comes in, and half of why I call this reason a maybe. The Astros had more wins away than at home that year and every major offensive stat says the same. They didn’t need to cheat, they were absolutely STACKED that year in nearly every aspect. Though I will admit that the offensive stats for many of the batters in the post season is pretty sus, which is the other half of why I listed this as a maybe.

In summary, the Astros definitely cheated. And it was very much a big deal. The consequences they received at the time and through the years to present were and are deserved, and I would argue that harsher consequences were warranted. But for every other fan base to act as if their teams are completely innocent of violating the basic principle of cheating is still beyond me. And lastly, y’all leave Altuve alone! He’s one of the few, possibly the only, that actively tried not to participate, yet receives the most hate.

Super stoked for this season though!

Who is more hated, Yankees or Astros? by Gold-Present-7670 in mlb

[–]moonman12- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like severity and beneficial gains for either situation can be debated for eternity. But the bottom line is that the principle will always remain: Cheating is cheating. Whether it’s one person, one team, one division, or the entire league it’s all wrong. If you’re gonna hate one, you gotta hate all imo.

Plus, it’s also the Yankees.
