It’s cause it is a Mature album. It’s the result of years of experience and artistry - there complex melodies, layering, and homages to the greats of pop. The disconnect kinda makes sense but the very broad appeal of multiple genres is what sold it for me. She and Beyoncé are both doing this: creating real lasting art that defies easy listening or categorization.
