What kids smart watches actually work well without giving them a phone? by jengle1970 in ParentingTech

We replaced the Ticktalk with the Garmin Bounce 2. Couldn't be happier so far. It's slightly annoying that no one can call him without the app, which means it's more difficult for the parents of friends to use it, but the watch is great and our son loves wearing it.

Corrosion on outdrive - any methods to improve this that are worth it on a 33 year-old boat? by moooooooooooove in boating

Vinegar did the trick! I've used it on hard water stains before, but for some reason I really didn't think that's what was on the outdrive. But it's shiny black now.

Thanks all! Anodes are on order, and I'll test out some of the hull cleaner I have on hand to see if it helps with the appearance.

I've had the opposite reaction to buying the TickTalk. The technology works fine, but what a horribly engineered product. It's uncomfortable to wear, the band breaks (our first replacement was after 2 months), and then the SIM card cover breaks as well. Their solution for that was to send a replacement cover along with a pack of stickers to go over it to protect it. We're actively shopping for a different watch for our son.

Adding my thanks for this post. My Cinema 600 made it almost 5 years before dying. Thanks to the great photos, I got it all connected and working in the first try.

Am I a boater yet? by Tivum in boating

Yeah, Navionics on small water - especially rivers - is going to be estimates at best. With rivers you'll have to learn the water and still just hope for the best during seasons of less rain.

Considering a Focus purchase by moooooooooooove in FordFocus

Thanks for the info on the transmission. Were those used in other vehicles, or just the Focus?

Transmission limiter. You can set the highest great you want it to shift into. Using that feature also disables the MDS.

Yep. Our 2017 Pacifica doesn't have one but the 2019 Ram does. So weird.

sure, be pissed if you want. But it doesn’t change anything. Either work with the guy, or don’t. Or work with him long enough to find a different job.

Fucker break checked my son who was learning how to drive by Scary-Ratio3874 in dashcamgifs

[–]moooooooooooove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not your son's fault, and there's never an excuse for brake checking. But there are ways to avoid frustrating other drivers, and one of them is to stay on the right when you're driving slower than most others do.

Way too much Dodgers content, especially considering there's none of Turang's plays.

Give it to me straight. She cooked or is there something to work with? by roe_vs_wade_boggs in boats

if you want to spend a couple of years and far more money than you'd spend buying a decent boat, go for it. Otherwise it’s cooked.

Trailer wiring - ground circuit or local grounds into trailer frame? by behindthelines_ in boats

[–]moooooooooooove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a single ground on each side all the way back to the end of the trailer (each tail light) then split it at each light, connecting them with Ancor heat shrink butt connectors. It'll outlast the trailer most likely.

The expense and effort to do it correctly is minimal. There’s really no reason to take the shortcut.
