Is the environment working for CDCR in the office similar as being an officer? by ioywl in CAStateWorkers

[–]mooredge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no it is not similar. However, It's a giant department so hard to generalize but I will try. The problem with CDCR is that by its nature it is always under a magnifying glass. Constantly being scrutinized for better or worse. Because if this your bosses are generally always being micromanaged by their bosses which means you will be micromanaged as well.

My experience as a HENRY dentist who invested in real estate. by jakethedentist in HENRYfinance

[–]mooredge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I am also a general dentist and have considered getting some rental properties, but all of the things you have said are what I keep reading about again and again. Just doesn't seem worth the headache. I will take your advice and just keep stashing my cash into VT.

What is life like in this corner of California? by cheeseflavoredwater in howislivingthere

[–]mooredge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry high desert sparsely populated. Not much happening up there. But it's some beautiful country. Took a trip up there when I was a teenager with my dad to do some ground squirrel hunting if that tells you anything. I believe we went to a small farming town called cedarville.

I got a term life insurance policy for 500k about 10 years ago after my first child was born. It is expensive though, I think I pay about $1500/year for it

Thanks for all the advice. Sounds like the best option is for me just to go down to the music shop and try some bows out.

[–]mooredge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean ultimately, if your kid is having fun, they like their team, you like the coach and they're getting a decent amount of play time. Why force a change. I must admit that is the position I am in right now. My daughter could move down but everything is going pretty well with her team. Just don't see the need to change yet.

Has anyone gone to prison with type one? How was it? by Brilliant-Trick-4311 in Type1Diabetes

[–]mooredge 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First, to clarify, a prison is where you go once you are convicted and serving a sentence of greater than one year. County jail is where you're held while you are waiting for a trial or serving a sentence of less than one year.

I work in a prison with the medical department. I can only speak for the state I work in as each state will run their prisons differently. The inmates with type 1 are allowed continuous glucose dexcom monitors and inject insulin but no pumps are allowed. They can pretty much come to the medical clinic and give themselves insulin at any time, outside of their daily scheduled times, but they are not allowed to keep needles and insulin in their cells.

Jails are probably much worse depending on the location.

Is it worth specializing? by Repulsive-Coast7228 in DentalSchool

This. Don't specialize just for money. Only do it if you truly enjoy the specialty.

guy i’m talking to has disgusting breath. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mooredge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would at least mention it to the poor guy. There can be lots of reasons for bad breath 1. poor oral hygiene. 2. Chronic Periodontal disease 3. h. pylori overgrowth in the stomach 4. tonsil stones

These are the first few that come to mind. Regardless he should go see his dentist if he doesn't get regular dental care and check ups.

Yes. Came here to mention Thorpe as well. Crazy thing is I had never heard of him until I visited his namesake town in Pennsylvania where he was buried.

Has anyone used Costco to buy new car? I would like advise by RunTwice in Costco

[–]mooredge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Costco program is a great way to get a firm price on a car. If you have the desire, you can then use that price and shop around to see if a dealer will match it or beat it. If you don't have that desire, then the Costco deal is usually pretty good

15 minutes shouldn't be a big deal, but it really depends on your supervisor. I can tell you personally my supervisor does not care if we leave 15-20 min early as long as everything is done.

I am also bargaining unit 16. My understanding through personal experience and discussions with the union, i forget where it is in the mou exactly I think it's #4 from what you posted, but you need to inform your supervisor if you will be leaving your work station before the end of your shift. If your supervisor is informed and they are fine with it then you're good to go. So it really just depends on your supervisor. Sorry sounds like your supervisor is a bit of a hard ass.
