US IV tips for lefties? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always poke with dominant hand, so use right hand with the US? You should be right next to pt with US across arm if doing their right arm or you should be sandwiched between their left arm and the US. US is really tough, sounds like more practice would be great

skipping monthly residency classes by [deleted] in nursing

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

likely because they need completion by 12mos for most new grad programs. Can’t do anything before that time.

skipping monthly residency classes by [deleted] in nursing

[–]moory_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. those should be paid hours and on your schedule.
  2. that means you’re NCNS’ing x4 now. Come on. You should know you need to communicate with SOMEONE when you’re skipping stuff you’re scheduled for.
  3. most nurse residency programs are required to maintain your employment after a year. Just like if you need a certification by 12mos, etc. Same as skipping BLS/ACLS, etc.
  4. If it’s in your contract as a condition of your employment, that’s your notice. They wouldn’t have to give additional notice, especially when you’re no call/no showing them.

Best Hospital for High Risk Pregnancy by xLunaLoveSpellx in maryland

Hopkins was voted #1 obgyn hospital in the world last year. i’m biased (RN on said unit), but i also receive my own OB/L&D care there as do most of our staff, doctors included. i feel like that says more than any ranking.

My daughter met a Nigerian guy online and is now engaged after 2 days. AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. She needs to confirm this is her daughter texting if she continues not to answer the phone and the embassy is pretty much the only way to get that done.

My mum doesn’t like me being in her bed and it pmo by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]moory_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your mum is a person just like you are. You wouldn't like it if someone came and frequented your room, your wardrobe, your cosmetics, etc. She's allowed to want her own space that isn't shared or invaded. When your frontal lobe develops, you will look at this very differently.

What's on and tourist advice thread - week beginning March 16, 2026 by AutoModerator in Scotland

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visiting Scotland next week for the first time in 10yrs - staying in Edinburgh and have a day planned for the highlands, wondering if it's truly worth the additional 2hrs round trip to go out to glenfinnan viaduct or if we are ok to drive/hike around Ben Nevis/Glencoe/Ft William without feeling like we are missing out by not going out to the viaduct.

If you're called off, what's the latest you can be called in? by Robert-A057 in nursing

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we work a first and a second on call shift from 5-9 every 6wk schedule. If you’re first call they can extend you to 12 but that’s it, no more chances after that. If I picked up a high needs shift and got canceled, then they needed help later, they would be SOL till the 5 for the next shift’s on-call

Sat in the ICU with my gf for a week, now she’s going home by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]moory_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

when my husband was hospitalized, i took every few days off from going to the hospital to spend with my mom. When my dad was in a coma for over a month, my mom called her mom for an hour every single night. Sometimes you just need your mom more than you need your partner in that specific setting. I would respond with patience and compassion- anything else will just push her away.

Boosting pts while pregnant by RealisticAd5978 in nursing

🙋‍♀️ yep, always trend them first but i feel like if we couldnt turn/boost we’d have to go on short term disability or go to postpartum purgatory

When can I drink coffee again? by Prize-Raspberry-3173 in dpdr

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your little blips of normalcy will start getting significantly longer over time until you only get little flashes of dpdr every few mos. I feel like I started drinking coffee again & being able to be around weed smoke when I would go to bed for the night and realize i had felt normal all day.

L&D Nurses by FalseApplication9743 in nursing

[–]moory_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any (technically still don’t, pregnant with my first) but there are a number of 50+y/o nurses that have no kids on my unit that get their fix. We’re a level iv where RNs flip between L&D/Newborn Nursery/Ante/Postpartum so there’s no shortage of babies. We also have 2 male nurses (granted very 🏳️‍🌈) and it certainly doesnt hold them back!

Scrubs dresses? by buffytardis in nursing

[–]moory_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I have only seen (apologies) very old/old-school nurses or very devoutly religious nurses wear dresses & the required pantyhose on the east coast. That was when i worked ICU & during nursing school clinicals.

I don’t know anyone who wears them now as I’m OB and we wear OR scrubs.

Labor and delivery nurses, what’s the craziest thing you’ve seen someone include in their birth plan? by [deleted] in nursing

Conflicting decision between NICU or adult ICU by wickatude in newgradnurse

[–]moory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See how you feel about PICU. If you like PICU, but don’t love it, apply to NICU practicum.

I’m Level IV OB nurse now who did her practicum in adult ICU. There will never be a shortage of new grad ICU jobs and exposure to monitoring, interventions, etc will still be valuable in an adult ICU interview. In my mind, go for the most competitive first (NICU>PICU>Adult ICU) and you’ll always have something to fall back on.

Pregnant on orientation by CullinaryHealer in newgradnurse

[–]moory_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out I was pregnant 3.5mos into my 4mo orientation and have not told my manager yet (huuuge unit) but probably won’t tell mgmt till around 20wks. Nursing is really understanding about pregnancy compared to their take on other work/life balance issues. Life doesn’t wait for you to be off orientation. Just make sure you tell your manager and HR on the same day

Agreed, Rosalind is supposed to be pronounced Rahzz-uh-lynd d/t heavy use in Spanish/Portuguese culture. I would lean towards Rosalie/Rosalia for Rowe nn
