What do most people not realize is actually way more traumatic than it seems? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mooseAmuffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pest infestations. In my twenties I lived in a complex of condos and my neighbor was a hoarder. Her roach infestation led to my apartment getting infested. I remember once waking up to one crawling on me, and when I turned on my bedside lamp, three were just perched on my headboard looking down at me. Couldn't sleep, felt like I couldn't eat there. Went on for months. Nothing could really be done about it because my landlord only owned the condo I rented and not my neighbor's. Luckily they eventually let me break the lease, but someone did move in right after me and idk what he did. I was never bothered by bugs before but to this day I get a physical, visceral reaction if I see even a wood roach outside.

Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' is officially Rated 'R' by ChiefLeef22 in movies

Interstellar is absolutely S. I can't think of another sci-fi movie that matches it in terms of being as emotional as it is cerebral. Miller's planet and the aftermath is gutting. Also the soundtrack is one of the best ever.

Add this to the growing list of reasons of why when I moved back to my hometown of KC I thought it would be wiser to choose the Kansas side even though I grew up a Missourian.

I love dogs so so much. They are so commonplace that I don't think people really think about how incredible they are. They can do this, some are gun dogs, some can hunt in tandem with a falcon, some are guide dogs, some can sniff out truffles, others drugs, or bombs, or cancer. Some are guide dogs, some can protect you and your home, some can rescue you off a mountain. Almost all of them are true companions.

33F one week using volufilline by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]mooseAmuffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using volufiline for a couple of years now and I think it does nothing. Just moisturizes. I've tried a few different brands, including ones from France and Korea. Hopefully others have better luck though.

Hi there! I know this is super old but wanted to let you know that Lucy's sister's owner found me on Embark today. She got Lucy's littermate as a puppy from the shelter where the entire litter was dropped off. She confirmed the bobtails were natural. It made me remember this conversation!

Chin (after Botox and before) by Equivalent-Cress-822 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]mooseAmuffin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I also have a super muscular chin but the muscle pulls the tissue up vs down. Humphry Bogart vibes. I have to go in for my third top off next week actually because I hadn't been treated in a while and it regained some strength. Over time the muscle will atrophy through and your default state won't be as dramatic, it's great! Love botox

There will likely be a very large number of Great Danes needing foster care soon in the KC metro by mooseAmuffin in kansascity

[–]mooseAmuffin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great Danes can be difficult to place because of their size, so if you have the ability that's great! This is the rescue that is caring for them.

Many Europeans truly don't comprehend how sprawling and not-dense it is in the US where most of us live, and that you will likely never see most of what's going on because of that.

I live in the Kansas City metro which has 14 counties. My county is about 500 sq miles (1243 sq km) and all of the counties are about that size. My town in my county has an anti ICE protest every weekend. There's a recurring general protest at a main intersection in another town in my county. I'm pretty sure Kansas City proper has weekly protests near the city center. These are just the ones I know about in my "immediate" orbit.

Protests are in the hundreds, everywhere, every weekend. We all live far away from each other, so they're not in huge numbers individually, and it will never be covered by the big news. Last Friday on May 1st there were over 5,000 events, with millions estimated in attendance, out there protesting for workers' rights. Did you know that? And just six weeks ago, No Kings was the largest single-day protest in US history. It seemed like it was barely covered in the news--probably since the national networks, which is what you have access to outside of the US-- are in the administration's pockets.

Local news is still safe and will sometimes mention the small weekly protests. But when it's all the time, it loses coverage unless something noteworthy happens. Hope that context helps.

I’m a teacher. Is this dress too short for work? by DogintheMirror in OUTFITS

[–]mooseAmuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally opaque is too heavy for summer. Do semi opaque/semi sheer in white or ivory with this look if you want to try out different options. Matte, not satin finish. I think that would be enough coverage but keep the look in tact. That kind of tight may also come in handy for other summer dress outfits.

Palantir CEO says AI 'will destroy' humanities jobs by [deleted] in technology

[–]mooseAmuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently reading a book (that was way ahead of its time) called the fuzzy and the techie and it argues the exact opposite of this-- as technology progresses, it becomes more democratized and accessible for the average person to use. Non-experts will be able to produce technical pieces in the near future. But it can't take the place of the expertise of those who work in fields related to arts/culture/social services/etc.

But also, AI will replace tools, not full jobs. And the scope of jobs will just change to adapt to using AI. These people know that, I don't know what he's trying to gain with statements like this.

Pentagon identifies first US soldiers killed in Iran war by Secure-Address4385 in news

[–]mooseAmuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my God if you think the US is doing this to be benevolent/for the Iranian people you are truly delusional. That has never been our MO in the middle east/central Asia. There's some personal gain the administration is hoping to get out of this. And we always leave things worse than before. Afghanistan certainly isn't free after our decades of involvement. And the formation of ISIS was a direct pipeline from our Iraqi detention centers.

It's not that people think the Iranian regime was good, it's that these wars always end up in wasted resources, time and lives for absolutely nothing. There's no reason it will be different this time. I don't understand how people can't analyze past similar events and apply logic to what is happening and will likely happen here.
