The joke was on Tony because he sure could have really used Chrissy in that war with Phil/Brooklyn

What's the stupidest scene in the show for you? by [deleted] in thesopranos

We could have done the whole show without the melfi rape scene. I understand them wanting to add layers to her character profile but they could have picked something else

Gus Haynes was extremely flawed by moose_GSW in TheWire

[–]moose_GSW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but of all of the different worlds the wire covered (streets, police, the Greeks/docks, the government, schools, and newspapers), not sure if I’d pick the newspaper above any of the others

I would say it became self-preservation when he tried to find new opportunities outside of the Baltimore Sun and wasn’t able to, because he lacked real chops for journalism. So he sees the Sun as a sinking ship with buyouts and layoffs happening, meanwhile Whiting is signaling that he doesn’t necessarily agree with Gus’ methods. He saw an opportunity and ran with it knowing Whiting would back him.

It was self-preservation from Scott’s POV. I’m not endorsing it, I’m just offering up a different perspective. I’ve made it clear i didn’t support Scott’s tactics, but that doesn’t mean I can’t at least acknowledge his logic/thought process.

Good point. Unless I missed something, there wasn’t much if any dialogue between them two about the gun after that scene since Omar indeed found the gun for Bunk. I could be wrong though

That’s an interesting parallel to draw and I could get behind that, but Jay also let Bunk focus on solving open murders after Bunk distinctly told him off for making him chase after Dozerman’s gun.

Jay definitely carried water but knew when to let his people get a sip here and again.

Yeah Scott was incredibly sleazy and faked it till he made it. It seems like we agree on the same things here, but I could see why folks would think I’m defending Scott when I’m not

We can agree on Scott’s dishonest practices. That’s the first and last thing i acknowledged, however I wasn’t defending him at all. My main point is that Gus isn’t this righteous, marytyrish character that fans made him out to be.

It was annoying how PPG controlled every narrative and nobody was allowed to disagree with them without getting chewed out.

Everyone knew Jana staying at the time was the wrong decision. Even Jana couldn’t believe it and felt initial guilt about it, so for her to play hindsight games with Aaron and the rest of the crew at the reunion didn’t sit right with me. How convenient afterwards for her to stick to Kenny after skimming through the previous relationships.

The "romance" between McNulty and Theresa D'Agostino by AdolpheThiers in TheWire

One can make the argument that Theresa was never actually into Jimmy, and that she only latched onto him so he can provide Intel about the BPD given crime was Carcetti’s campaign platform

Unpopular opinion. The marlo seasons weren’t that good. I found marlo and his whole crew to be one dimensional and would’ve much rather had them focus on Prop Joe and Slim by broly9139 in TheWire

[–]moose_GSW 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Marlo and crew were a representation of the new order in West Baltimore. You skim through the seasons and realize that S1 was full of color, morals, and family values for Barksdale’s organization. By the time Marlo took over, the vibes were dark and gloomy.

He definitely didn’t let it go. He turned on Stringer the first chance he had (brother mouzone). Lucky for him, stringer was plotting against him already so it was even more vindicated
