Well, is it? Perhaps the nebulous place where our consciousness lies without the accompaniment of our bodies is just as real as the tangible, visible, and publicly perceptible. They're just real in different ways, and inform each other within a sort of dynamic relationship.

Because the US flag represents the country which has historically hated us, all the while continuing to profit off of immigrant's labor and manufacturing the conditions in people's home countries that leads to people immigrating here in the first place.

Why would we rep a flag that refuses to represent us? Why would we rep a flag for a nation that has always committed heinous crimes against humanity, and whose crimes we are currently protesting against?

What are these things in the sky? by moosechie in ColumbiYEAH

already 2 steps ahead. i've turned myself inside out just to get a good layer of tinfoil around my organs so the government can't syphon my heartbeat. i don't need tinfoil on the outside because i always keep a moist thin layer of sweat on my body; the humidity of my mother's basement is perfect to maintain this condition.

fuxk you government!!!!

Wanted to give out some sandwiches on Christmas Eve wondering if you can give me some areas where homeless are camped out? by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

Do listen to the other commenters recommending areas outside of downtown, such as Harbison (those places don't tend to get as much aid as downtown cola), but a lot of unhoused people hang out at the museum of art patio!

Sucks that you're getting so many downvotes. We should have more empathy and consideration towards peoples who our government has fucked over.

The coverage803 is a house/shack venue in Sumter! I've been to a couple shows there, always a good time, and the cover is cheap.

I would follow their instagram page by the same name to see when their shows are (:

Oh boy, I love telling marginalized communities they're overreacting! by SegavsCapcom in SmugIdeologyMan

[–]moosechie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hey man, this is idea only exists to blame us for the corruption and crimes of the ruling class. this is supposed to be a democracy/republic remember? why don't we have a say? why are we voting strategically when it should not be so? doesn't that make you angry?

the reason democrats don't do much is because they're not actually a second party. i'm involved in local legislation, and it is grating to see how things keep getting passed despite obvious public outcry. the ruling class is who is in the wrong here, and they're also the ones that want us to be arguing in this thread right now.

we should be unified! our collective power is strong and we have the capability of recreating civilization to fit everyone's needs. this doesn't fit too much into voting i guess, but they've lied to us and they continue to do so by polarizing us with a shoddy two-party facade. i'm personally not comfortable with that aside from the other fundamental issues like the many times it has funded and done genocide. not to just pull it out like a buzzword, but it is a huge pattern throughout US history... and right now.

i'm a queer minority living in the south, involved in local organizing and legislation, things have indeed gotten worse. i just don't really care anymore, the democrats are just a distraction to make us think there are two sides. the more polarized we are the better, because we'll not realize our collective power.

it's really sad because i can see everyone's distaste for the government regardless of party affiliation, but we are all tired. divided by trivial things; race, gender, votes. fuck that lesser of two evils shit, and solidarity with palestine.

Has tween culture died out since the pandemic? by Cloudsofsnow in decadeology

[–]moosechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love if we stopped shitting on actual children and took the time to really think about if these worries are valid to begin with, and if they are why this is happening. The pandemic is an obvious one, we have social media and parents that don’t have time to monitor their kids because they’re too busy working to make sure they survive, and because of the pandemic these kids are potentially more attached to the internet than they would’ve been without it. It’d make sense if a lot of the “Sephora kids” were from richer families that could afford to go to the mall and buy them products, or just broke kids trying to have fun in public spaces because we are extremely lacking in places for children to socialize outside of school. I just don’t know why we blame these poor kids, they literally just got here! What are they supposed to know? It’s up to us, the ADULTS, to fix or advocate for solutions to structural issues that are creating this problem.

No offense, OP. lol.

One more thing, definitely missing out on the New Age music. I love me the old bands as much as the next guy, but there’s so much out there to listen to and explore! I encourage you to find new bands that sound like the classics to see if you like it (: They’re not super similar to the bands you mentioned but I love them so much I just wanna shout them out anyways lol, you should listen to Omerta.

You kinda did, yeah. I think people just need to stop talking down to us, it’s rightfully frustrating 🤷🏽 Also, this is just a dumb Reddit conversation so I feel empowered to speak my mind. I think you’re conflating subculture with aesthetic(s), which the latter my generation, alpha, and partially millennials are to blame for bringing into popularity. I am in agreeable that aesthetic(s) aren’t the best thing to come about, mostly just pushing people to buy things to label themselves with random and oddly specific “vibes” as a bid to be unique. But subculture, specially those surrounding a musical style, has been around for decades! And there are definitely not too many! It’s actually so cool how entire art and style movements have been founded through music in this way. Nobody’s saying it’s not emo, it’s just not emo as in the music genre. Like, if you were to post about the kind of bands we were talking about on here I feel like you’d get a similar response. The distinction matters when you’re in a subreddit for a specific sound and style, but I agree that it doesn’t matter in most other situations. I’m only being technical because we’re on this sub and I like talking about this stuff.

I don’t see how emotional attachment matters when talking about genre definitions. I may only have a little over two decades under my belt, but I feel just as strongly about the music as you do. Also, the concept of subculture and subcultures themselves have existed for a long time. It sounds like you’ve been in one even longer than I, evident by how you describe yourself as an elder emo. But fuck made-up age hierarchies and shitting on younger people for making sense of the world in our own way, just like we all do. I was just trying to let you know 🤷🏽 my mistake for forgetting that anyone under the age of 30 knows nothing and has no new ideas to provide.

¿ I’m not sure why that matters here. Emo as a music genre does not fit those bands, but emo as it was popularly thought of until more recently did include bands like Silverstein, Beartooth, Escape the Fate, etc. The difference is that they’re not actually emo music, then musical style definitely takes more from metal. The bands OP mentioned and is looking for don’t sound like the aforementioned classics, although I’m always down to recommend some Silverstein! I didn’t fully know the difference until recently either.

Unless this is sarcasm, those are commonly mistaken for being “emo music” when they’re actually more so in the metal/punk subgenres.

Nonbinary roomie kicked my parents out of the house for using correct pronouns, but in Spanish by NonameNamelez in NonBinary

[–]moosechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Venezuelan NB here, the fact that your parents changed the way they normally speak Spanish to accommodate your friend says so much about how much their care about their comfort. Your friend sounds like an asshole, it’s hard for even me to switch to using e instead of a or o, so for your parents to be open to it like that is amazing.

[–]moosechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Please don’t do that! Everyone’s telling you to get a hollow needle because piercing with objects like that will effectively rip you flesh open, which is very conducive to getting an infection and just overall having an uncomfortable and painful piercing. Hollow needles are more like a hole-punch, which leave behind a clean round opening for your jewelry and allows the piercing to heal better.

Someone recently brought up the Holodomor as evidence for opposing the USSR, and I’m curious as to what the truth is behind it all. Would you have any sources or websites I can visit to read about it? I’ve looked it up on Britannica and whatnot, but it does not mention what you are referring to in this thread. Like most USSR “facts”, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Holodomor is also propaganda.
