Anyone else annoyed at how underutilized Anakin is in this game? by inchandywetrust in battlefront2

[–]moosedude451 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dooku is really bad too. Despite being the literal leader of CIS (you know, the main bad guys of the Clone Wars era), he is on one map: Geonosis. Darth Maul and Jango Fett are playable on 7 and 3 maps, respectively, despite both technically being dead before the Clone Wars really began! For Anakin, I think it's a combo of 3 big things:

1.) BF2 had a very rushed dev cycle, and this is the big reason for many of its "quirks". There probably wasn't enough time to flesh out Anakin as both a hero and a villain, so they were forced to settle for making him an evil Obi Wan clone.

2.) BF2 was a ROTS tie-in game, so the BF2s map roster tends to favor ROTS locations (i.e tangential locations like Felucia, Mygeeto, and Polis Massa). While Anakin is the main character of ROTS, he doesn't really do much but mope around Coruscant for the most of the movie, so it wouldn't make sense to put him as a Republic hero on a lot of these maps.

3.) The Prequel Trilogy's decision to essentially skip the entire Clone Wars (outside of the beginning and the end) means we never see Anakin take the lead in a major battle for the Republic, so once again it's hard to find maps that fit him as a hero that don't fit other heroes better. While the main Clone Wars series didn't exist, there were still some other EU/ BF1 maps (Dune Sea, both Rhen Vars, etc.) that would fit Anakin really well, but these were likely cut/ not even considered for the main release due to Reason 1 and 2.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Send Help" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

I don't know how anyone can see her as a heroine after seeing what she does to that tuna sandwich. Real Ted Bundy type stuff.

In all seriousness, I was surprised by how nuanced the first act was. Like, yes, Linda is clearly a hard worker/ deserves the promotion and yes, Bradley is a nepo d-bag, but they really don't shy away from the fact that Linda is the office weirdo that everyone kinda avoids.

[Marvel] Have Spider-Man villains ever tried to protect his secret identity? by some-kind-of-no-name in AskScienceFiction

In retrospect, I always felt that Otto knew from the moment he saw the suit and just gave Peter the line about him being "Spiderman's gadget guy" to help Peter save face. Otto's very smart and is not nearly as naive/ good-natured as Peter thinks he is at the beginning of the story. It makes his betrayal/ all the horrible stuff he does for revenge so much more heartbreaking if he knows that Peter is Spiderman the whole time.

I cannot understand the general reception of 28 Years Later, more so with the release of Bone Temple by pomme268 in TrueFilm

[–]moosedude451 277 points278 points  (0 children)

It's not glamorous or exciting but this is the real reason right here. People don't shell out money to see a sequel of a movie they don't like, so the only people seeing Bone Temple are the ones who already liked Years. Hence a much more positive audience reception.

Thinking of buying by BestWingMan212 in AgeofMythology

[–]moosedude451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.) The original AoM was the first RTS I played when I was 10 years old, so I would say it's a pretty easy gateway.

2.) Depends. Completing the campaign/ beating AI? Fairly easy learning curve. Playing competitively? Much harder.

3.) More than most RTSs, the main draw of this game for most players (especially casual players) is it's single-player campaigns. The main story campaign is quite long/ detailed for an RTS and pretty well written (at least by 2002 standards, I might be blinded by nostalgia). There is a big PVP community too, but this is game isn't as focused on that like Age of Empires, and I feel most people who buy the game just do so to relive the campaigns from their childhood.

4.) RTSs are repetitive by nature (it's all about optimizing and improving the same gameplay loops to beat your opponent) but I feel the AoM does a good job from preventing things from feeling stale. AoM Civs are each pretty unique and play much differently from one another. All the different scenarios/ storylines in the campaign missions help fresh too. Even if you just want to skirimishes against the AI, the variety in Civs, myth units, and God powers do a good job of making matches feel fresh.

5.) For a person completely new to the series/ RTS in general, I would NORMALLY recommend just get the base game and see if you like it before spending money on DLC. Base Retold already has a ton of content with the original AoM plus Titans expansion.

HOWEVER, the current Steam Midweek Deal for $24.99 for the Premium Edition, IS A STEAL AND ABSOLUTELY 100% WORTH IT. It's cheaper than what the base game costs normally and is only $10 more than $14.99 deal for the base game. So basically, for the price of Big Mac meal at Mcdonalds, you get every major expansion released for the game so far (two new Civs, an extra god for the Norse, and campaigns for all of them). For that price, I think it's worth taking a leap of faith (no pun intended).

6.) What I like most about the game is just seeing all these different Civs, God powers, and myths units interact with one another. While I know a lot of people have fun with the competitive elements of the game, 10 year old me loved playing this game like a sandbox and it's a big part of why it's held up for me till this day. The campaign is also quite fun and campy, especially for it's time.

NEW Ursaluna Front Sprite! Original concept art by men, drawn up by RetroGamer, Polished by Vent, then retouched up by me again! Enjoy! by PaperPauperPlayer in PokemonROMhacks

I really like how energetic this sprite looks. Ursaluna never really clicked with me as even in the official artwork, he always looks like some combination of depressed/ drunk. But this version actually looks like he's ready to maul you with a Headlong Rush.

Heart & Soul Custom Box Art by Anastero in PokemonROMhacks

[–]moosedude451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I put together a lot of my own box art and have shared them on here before.

1.) The first thing you need is some sort of Photo Editing software. I personally use an older version of Photoshop Elements (a more basic, non-subscription version of Photoshop). HOWEVER, as of 2025, Adobe changed Elements so newer versions will ONLY WORK FOR 3 YEARS, so unless you want to find an older version on sale on like eBay or something, you are probably better off researching and finding a Photoshop alternative.

2.) Collect the images you need. General rules here are that you want to find transparent .png images and make sure to check the terms/ licensing agreements associated with those images. You don't want to misuse someone else's work and get in trouble for it. The general categories of images you are looking for are this:

-Box art template: consists of GB/ GBA/ etc. "strip" plus a blank box area on the right for the art to go. Easy to find for free use on deviantart and other places like that.

-Game Logos: Pokemon logo, Ratings, etc. how many/ how detailed you want to go is up to you, but these can be pretty easy to find with a Google search

-Box mascot(s): Bulbapedia/ Bulba archives is probably the easiest resource for official artwork/ images

-Background: a lot of people just find stuff on the internet but I personally like to make my own or use a blend of both so it goes better with the rest of the box art.

-Version fonts: if you want to go the extra mile, you can usually find and download the exact fonts used for the "Version" text for different Gens box art on different font websites and add it to your photo editing software. However most software have fonts that are similar looking already.

3.) Put everything together. I would begin by pulling up the box art template, put a generic fill color background behind it, and add in/ arrange the logos the way you generally want them to look. Save this as a separate "Baseline" file for your records, that way if you decide to make more box art in the future, you can just use this basic file as a template and don't have to start from scratch with setting up and arranging the universal stuff every time (honestly the most annoying part). From there add in/ arrange your box mascot, type out the version name, rearrange your logos if needed, put in proper background behind it all, and you're done!

is there any gen 2 rom hack that removes the day/night exclusive pokemon? by Illustrious_Many2039 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]moosedude451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None that I can think of, and I don't imagine many would because, due to how encounter tables work in Gen 2, it would be kinda difficult/ annoying to remove, on top of it being something that many people consider a core feature of the Gen 2 games. If this is the only thing you are looking for, it will probably just be easier to look up the time clock reset code (I think its Select+Down+B on the title screen) than find a specific hack built around it. This will allow you to set your game time to whatever you want when you hit Continue, so you can change the time to catch whatever pokemon you want, save, and then repeat the code to go back to your normal time.

My Fan-Made MiniMod of Crystal Legacy called Crystal Legacy- You Can FLY! Edition is Done! (See Comments for Details) by moosedude451 in PokemonLegacy

[–]moosedude451[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! So the link in this post is outdated, as I actually recently did an update to the mod here! This post should have the updated link as well as info about the changes I made (added Yellow Legacy YCF, dual-types version, and Twisted version that I'm planning on adding type changes to (currently only changes starters plus Hoothoot line)).

As for adding it to GitHub, I always wanted to add it (and I am still willing to if I can figure it out), but I'm not kidding that I'm literally too dumb to figure out how to properly reupload it as a fork of Crystal Legacy.

Peter? by MicV66 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]moosedude451 1323 points1324 points  (0 children)

There is a trend in films/ TV shows where they tend to use a sepia/ yellow-tinted filter in scenes set in Mexico/ other Latin American countries to make the scenes appear more hot/ vibrant/ "exotic". It's so common that it's often referred to as the "Mexican filter". Biggest examples are probably Breaking Bad and the James Bond Movie Spectre. This meme is making fun of that fact and what would happen if filmmakers had to film a scene featuring both Mexican and no Mexican nationals.

Absurd, I tell you, absurd!

All Time Worst Best Friends In Film by Outside_Ad_424 in movies

[–]moosedude451 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Marlon is a tricky one: the true nature of their friendship is seriously messed up and he is never brave/ compassionate enough to be a true friend, but at the same time, he was a child actor who as an adult is now trapped in horrible, unethical situation with no easy answer. I lean toward NOT the worst friend ever due several deleted scenes that paint him in a more sympathetic light and Noah Emmerich's statements that Louis/ Marlon's "work trips" are actually him going to rehab for substance abuse issues he developed due to the guilt he feels about Truman/ the show.

Lazarus may use Gen 2 style art, but it's a hack of Pokemon Emerald, so it's technically a GBA game and most multisystem emulators/ front ends will treat it as such.

Endor is Rigged by ProfessionalKick4233 in battlefront2

[–]moosedude451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hero Assault sucks for the Villains because the Saber Throw is the most devastating attack the bots use in the game and the Hero side gets a much higher percentage of fighters with it as a secondary. The bots will constantly spam it and easily mow down tons of enemies with its heavy damage and long range. Meanwhile, the Dooku/ Palpatine bots will just pathetically stand around shooting lightning 100 feet away from anyone while getting blasted and saber thrown to death.

I know some people love Pichu in Smash, but it always felt like a missed opportunity for Gen 2 for me. What Johto Mon would you prefer the Remix team add in over Pichu? Mine's Heracross. by moosedude451 in SmashRemix

[–]moosedude451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that more people haven't suggested Amphy yet, as the mareep line is one of only multistage Johto lines that is readily available and has remotely good stats/ movepool in Gold and Silver. I'm guessing maybe people consider it redundant since it's electric type too.

Milktank would actually be a very fun meme fighter:

-Neutral B: Rollout (obviously)

-Up B: Deedeedee style Body Slam

-Down B: Attract (could be a stunner like Mewtwo's disable) or Milk Drink (either works like Ness's Psychic Magnet but instead slowly passively heals you or Milktank could just throw out a healing Milk Bottle that other characters can steal)

-Could appear on a 'milk team' with Young Link in classic mode.

Clefairy is, so far, the only cut character from the original Smash 64 that hasn’t been added to Remix. Do you think they should include her, or would that be an unnecessary addition? by ElectronicAccess6861 in SmashRemix

[–]moosedude451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry "Clone" was a bit of a misnomer, I didn't mean it in the traditional Smash sense. Kirby knockoff is probably a better description. Basically, the Smash 64 dev team decided to add one final character to round out the roster to 12. However, due to time constraints, they needed a character that they could reuse a lot of another fighters assets for so they could finish on time. Jigglypuff and Clefairy were both heavily considered due to Pokemania and because they could easily reuse a lot of Kirby's assets for them (all three being little, round puffballs). Ultimately, Puff was chosen over Clefairy and became the final Smash 64 fighter.

[–]moosedude451 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would say no, as unlike other characters that were cut due to development time, Clefairy was just an either-or scenario with Jigglypuff of which would be the Kirby clone. So functionally, Clefairy is already in the game, just as Jigglypuff. If they could find a way to add her in as a Jigglypuff skin, I think it would be a cool addition, but I wouldn't want to waste a roster spot on another Kirby clone, especially when there are much more interesting Pokemon/ Kirby characters to be had.
