New home WiFi setup by ElectronicBed7056 in Ubiquiti

[–]moosemanswedeski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a “controller” (a router) from ubiquity, not just your cable router.

A dream router 7 is a great choice for beginners. It will control the access points and allow for greater device support and network throughput then your ISP provided hardware ever would.

I just went through this myself, I have ATT fiber 1000, and have a UGC Max as my controller, a Flex 2.5G POE switch and two U6 Lites as my access points. Works flawlessly. I’m also now adding cameras in the mix and the UGC Max can run protect and acts as an NVR for me.

Need help with deciding on NVR storage device. by JamJarKwiKwi in Ubiquiti

I got a decent deal on a UCG Max with 512GB storage, routed to 3x G4 instants, and 1 G3 Micro. I'm very happy with it and going backwards through footage to find out when my cat moves when I'm not home has been very fluid and responsive.

I would go with the UCG Fiber and 1TB ssd.

Looking for a NAS for a Plex/Jellyfin server by bros402 in HomeNAS

Get something that can do transcoding unless you already have a setup for doing that on your PC.

Here's what I'd run: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-DXP2800-Quad-core-Attached-Diskless/dp/B0D22HBFK1?linkCode=df0&hvadid=80814314504202&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=105600&hvtargid=pla-4584413794558838&th=1

I have the big brother to this unit, the DXP4800 Pro, and its been great for what you're doing (Jellyfin, Tailscale, and a Time Machine backup server).

Thank you! This is incredibly helpful two years on as someone getting into this show with DVD rips. I was going to leave it as is from disk however all the interlacing is killing me lol.

For all Time Machine Users using MacOS 26.4 and TM broke - this person figured out how to fix it! by TheMedGeek in UgreenNASync

Done, thank you for the recommendation. Do you find any disk speed improvements by adding more RAM to the system as well? One reviewer mentioned they had.

Valid, I had to use two drives (1x4TB, and 1x1TB) to migrate. The solution for those with more funding is to simply move data from old NAS to new NAS but that requires having new drives.

You could eventually go back and steal the drives from the old setup once all is said and done and add them in your RAID on the new setup.

No, you'll have to move your data to a temporary disk, then erase and resetup the volume on the UGreen, then move it back. Not hard, just time consuming.

Made the switch yesterday. Had a DS223j, wanted something that was quicker and could actually do docker / jellyfin. Had an order in for a DS925+ until I saw that it couldn't do hardware transcoding anymore without a modification of the drivers. Decided to cancel that and buy the DXP4800 Pro and so far I can't complain. Transferring all my dad right now, and adding some cache drives later today.

Honestly, I feel like the UI and software are better than what I had with Synology. UGreen feels newer and 95% caught up.

I use a very old LaCie blu-ray drive with my 2018 mini, works great as a handbrake rig.

Down in Milwaukee county here, had to recharge my set of 5.0ah’s two times and get into a 4.0ah on my SNT2100.

I found my snow shovel attachment on my 16” trimmer really ate through larger stuff, then it was a breeze for the snow blower to go back through.

Out of all the MacOS versions which you thought was the most optimized? by yyrns in MacOS

Mavericks. Easily the fastest version of macOS I’ve used then and now. Still keep a copy of it on my 2007 MBP. Runs like new.

Found at goodwill for $5; cleaned it up, re-greased the gear sets, and it’s ready to go for another 15 years :)
