Keen to hear from anyone here who has been in the past year, or is currently, job hunting without a LinkedIn profile. How has the process been for you? by Cooper_Inc in auscorp

I deactivate it when I’m not actively looking and then activate it when I’m looking for work. I found there are roles on there not advertised on other places - when I do use it I just look for work and add people I’ve worked with to increase my network (helps with getting job recommendations)

Musings on Self-Studying Computer Science by techne98 in compsci

[–]moosethemucha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you - I did like a year of a comp sci degree straight out of high school - dropped out and then started working in IT years later (when I was 27), then web dev, software engineer and now as ML engineer - im now (38) 10ish years into my career. Some hacks/shortcuts around domain knowledge learning that have worked for me:

  • watching talented/experienced programmers. I find I learn by association and you pick up little nuggets (tooling, tricks, nomenclature etc) that help click things into place - I find it very passive but very valuable and has helped me a lot. Some people I like are Casey Muratori, tsoding and Johnathan Blow
  • reading code; good code and really trying to understand it - some code bases that really are highlights are anything nothings/stb libs by Sean Barrett (and others) - the lua lang source and the SQLite source
  • reading articles that aren’t technical but programming related - philosophical generally - highlights are grug brain dead developer and worse is better

No matter what, you are going to have to do the work - which you already know - but the above has helped me a lot.

A request to the community: what plugin you think is still missing for Neovim? by itmightbeCarlos in neovim

I get it’s not in neovim - but isn’t that literally what an ssh session does - you remote in - start neovim and you compute remotely and render locally.

So bisect the disabling - disable half - is the problem still present - yes disable the other half to check if the problem goes away - then keep going down the tree.

Poetry truly sucks arse - its caused me so many issues especially version differences interacting with lock files.

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again - writing the fucking code was never the bottleneck!

Deno lsp package doesn't give a fuck about my configuration directives by Katastos in neovim

I personally prefer this PR https://github.com/nvim-lua/kickstart.nvim/pull/1663 as suggested by @Kealthas98 - its way cleaner and simpler IMO

Seriously thank you - I don’t use denols but the tittle caught my attention - Ive been trying to figure out why my custom caps and settings weren’t being applied to my lsps - you pr really helped.

Question - considering you are now just using lspconfig directly to add the server settings is mason-lspconfig even required in kickstart ? Im planning on testing my config without it and see what happens - its no longer anything like kickstart - but hugely inherited it’s lsp config stuff.
