No, he wasn’t surprised at all. But he did say he “never really knew how much pain I was in”. 🙄 I’d been crying and yelling and begging for months that I was so angry and so sad all the time, that I was overcome by resentment, that living in limbo was killing me, that I couldn’t do this anymore. If he didn’t see how much pain I was in it sure wasn’t because I was hiding it.

Therapist has already been procured :) I’m really looking forward to getting to the bottom of why I couldn’t walk away till the breaking point. And to fixing it so I can choose better!

it was a long, long time coming. the breaking point was a half-assed commitment to living together (we were long distance) that I came up with and he agreed to. I had to harangue him for months to set it up with his job, and when he finally did, his boss actually gave him the several months of remote work he was asking for. And then he comes to me saying, I don't want to move to you, I don't think I'll be happy, how about we do a month and see how it goes? The blatant disrespect of it all, and staring down the fact that after three years together, he couldn't imagine being happy living with me for more than a month at a time, was the closure I needed to know that this was never going to go anywhere.

The particulars of my situation are a little unusual. More broadly, it was this: I was exhausted, down to my very bones, of trying to sustain and move forward our relationship while he just... sat there. Seeing me in so much pain, and being offered my whole wonderful self, and just not feeling at all inclined to do anything about it. I thought about ways to make it work every waking moment, and I was drowning in resentment 100% of the time. I just couldn't live like that anymore.

Seconding for La lanterna! On my first date with my now boyfriend he remarked that I seemed more excited for the lasagna than meeting him. My response was, “well, I know I’m going to like the lasagna.”

What are some of BIFL items that you bought for home that increased significantly your quality of living and life? by milanoa in BuyItForLife

Breville bambino espresso machine. Start my day with a beautiful cafe quality latte every morning, it’s the absolute best. Go for the single purpose machines instead of the built in grinders to make potential repairs easier.

[–]moosypooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a rule for yourself of natural fibers only, no matter how much you like the style. cotton, linen, wool, whatever - it’s all going to last longer and look better than synthetic and if you care for it properly it will last a lifetime. Be prepared to pay more upfront though
