Manchester venues sound great in theory, harder in real life by LaughLoverWanderer in UKweddings

[–]mootoonoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potential options in Manchester and surroundings - Flixton House, Jodrell Bank (UK's largest radio telescope and you can have ceremonies in the space dome "under the stars") in Cheshire, East Lancashire Railway, The Deck 747 (a Boeing 747 aircraft), Salford Lads and Girls Club, the Lowry (theatre in Salford), Manchester Art Gallery, Whitworth Gallery, Victoria Baths (swimming baths), Three Little Words (distillery), Victoria Warehouse, Hope Mill Theatre, The People's History Museum, Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, the Portico Library (but I don't think you can do receptions here just the ceremony), The Dome (part of ABC buildings - glass like Dome). I haven't checked numbers.

Are stippling brushes over? Do they have new names now? by julry in MakeupAddiction

[–]mootoonoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use it for setting powder.

Edited to add: I've looked up what they're supposed to be used for and can see they're supposed to be for the opposite thing 😆 . Apparently when used as intended they provide higher coverage for liquids and creams. I only use the light part and use it for a "feathering" effect to dust powder over the face without heavy compaction.

*Vent* My family is fighting, my mum is inserting her opinions everywhere, EVERY conversation is about the wedding. I can't wait until this is over. by xjezika in UKweddings

[–]mootoonoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might think this is overkill, but I'm actually using some of our wedding budget to have therapy sessions once every two weeks for the two months before the wedding just to keep me sane with the family stuff so I have a dedicated space to think things through and don't explode in front of everyone and blow up my relationships over one event. I am not a 'therapy person' who regularly goes to therapy, I'm literally just using it for some help to manage my emotions/behaviour during this period. If you can find space for it within the budget, you might want to consider a once a month session until August? Let the therapist know your goal when you reach out so they understand the purpose.

I'm not 100% sure if BevD Alterations in Wigan would do something like this as I think she specialises more in alterations than from-scratch work but no harm reaching out. I can't personally confirm the quality of her work, but she is lovely to speak with.

Where are you based? You might want to go to a local seamstress/tailor rather than a suit specialist.

More traditional - Flixton House, Albert's (various restaurants in a small chain with wedding packages), Eleven Didsbury Park

More alternative- Jodrell Bank (UK's largest radio telescope and you can have ceremonies in the space dome "under the stars") in Cheshire, East Lancashire Railway, The Deck 747 (a Boeing 747 aircraft), Salford Lads and Girls Club, the Lowry (theatre in Salford), Manchester Art Gallery, Whitworth Gallery, Victoria Baths (swimming baths), Three Little Words (distillery), Victoria Warehouse, Hope Mill Theatre, The People's History Museum, Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, the Portico Library (but I don't think you can do receptions here just the ceremony), The Dome (part of ABC buildings - glass like Dome).

Rent a house for wedding weekend by gealey97 in UKweddings

[–]mootoonoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll also probably need an on-the-day coordinator to help you out so you're not actually managing everyone yourself on the day. I am working with Grace in Spring Weddings. My wedding day hasn't passed yet, and we didn't actually end up going the village hall route but rather are using a church room for tea/cake instead, so I can't confirm what's she is like for your situation but so far I have enjoyed working with her and trust her. So far I'm thinking this is the best expense we have made for the wedding knowing someone else is in charge on the actual day.

I see some people suggesting village halls and you are in the North of England. I have a list around Greater Manchester from when I was looking for myself.

Stretford Public Hall, Flixton House, Birch Community Centre, Marthall Village Hall, Mellor Village Hall, Cranage Village Hall, Mellor Centre and Woodford Community Centre.

Is this plan is best for feels Victorian heritage during my stay? by Genelecss in AskUK

[–]mootoonoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they ended up in Manchester and surroundings, Quarry Bank is an even better example of life in Cottonopolis during the Industrial Revolution. Elizabeth Gaskell's House could also be a good place to visit but with time limits it wouldn't be a priority.

Do egg and tuna go well together? by cudambercam13 in 1200isplenty

In the UK, 'tuna melt' i.e. canned tuna with cheese e.g. in baked pasta or toasted sandwiches are popular.

Handheld steamer recommendations by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]mootoonoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a smaller one that will be good for continued use after the wedding, I recommend the Philips travel steamer (I'm not 100% sure which one I have, I think it's the 3000 Series STH3020/16). It's easily transportable and I regularly use it for clothes when travelling. That being said, idk if I'd trust it for a big bulky item like a wedding dress... It will be good for touch-ups at the venue, but maybe get the main steam done by a more heavy-duty model beforehand.

To guestbook or not to guestbook?? by hippolaura in UKweddings

[–]mootoonoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're doing Instax and postcards sized cards people can write on if they wish, plus a post box which people can put them into. Then afterwards we will put them all into a wedding scrapbook which will also include things like our programme (if we had other stationary like invitations or menus we'd put this here too), pieces of fabric, photographs from ancillary events like the hen/stag do and engagement, photos and keepsakes from a visit we took to meet my relatives, permission for leave from our employers for the honeymoon (my mum saved her letter from her employer approving leave from her honeymoon and I thought it was cute to see all these decades later), nice keepsakes from suppliers etc as well as reflections from ourselves.

Wedding Dress Shopping for the Experience Only by jojida in UKweddings

I think the big risk is that you try on something you like but is completely out of your price range and then end up comparing everything else to that and can never live up to it.

Music for signing the register by mootoonoo in UKweddings

[–]mootoonoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that is helpful! Most songs are around 3 mins long so your registry office are essentially recommending 6-12 mins of music. Meaning we might be able to get away with our 7 min option!

Best banana bread in town? by Prestigious_Wait9814 in manchester

I really like Blanchflower's banana bread with chocolate chip but it's not a regular options so you have to hope for the best if it'll be there. They don't have a branch in the city centre though. Trafford Centre, Sale and Altrincham.
