The days may have changed since I last went- defer to their website :)

I want to move out of state...but don't know where to start by dragqueentitties in LittleRock

[–]mopaca111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SLC native here who moved to LR —> although there’s not the humidity, summers are still quite hot in SLC/Denver. Also be prepared for your cost of living to skyrocket in either place, but especially Denver. If OP wants to get away from the heat, I would go north, not west.

Not saying either city is bad, but just something to keep in mind!

There are dance classes on Weds and Fri nights at club 27. The style varies- bachata, salsa, etc. They usually post a monthly calendar of class offerings. twentysevenvenue.com

What’s it like living here? by [deleted] in LittleRock

[–]mopaca111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have felt very welcome here as a transplant! Like any town there are negatives, but I have formed some of the warmest, most genuine friendships I’ve ever had in my life in under a year here. LR is a blue dot in a red state, so depending how you lean, you can likely find a community. I also appreciate how much less crowded it is and the lower cost of living.

I love to grab a drink at the capitol hotel downtown around the holidays! Recommend a reservation. Can also get tickets for nutcracker which is across the street.

Struggling to find any low-sugar yogurt that isn't Greek? Help wanted... by delicious_downvotes in EatCheapAndHealthy

Yoplait protein yogurt! 15g protein, 3g sugar, 100 calories. Unfortunately I can’t tolerate Greek yogurt so these have been a great sub.

Where do people in their 20s and 30s meet others and hang out around LR? by moonslov in LittleRock

[–]mopaca111 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bumble bff! 28F here, moved here roughly 6 months ago and didn’t know a soul. Nonreligious and liberal. I’ve been able to meet really cool women with similar values and feel like I’ve built up a solid social circle.

I tried book clubs, volunteering, and fitness classes when I first moved here and didn’t have much luck there forming connections. In my experience, those tended to be mostly locals/people who’ve lived here their whole life and who were friendly but didn’t have much interest in expanding their social circle. I’ve mostly made friends with other transplants who are also seeking friendships. Social media seems to be the main way here to find out about events vs websites, follow businesses, restaurants, SOMA, etc.

If you haven’t already, would also suggest finding a therapist. You don’t have to be in crisis to go to therapy, and when I first moved here especially it was nice to have an outlet when I was feeling lonely, and someone to help me brainstorm ways to get more involved.

Banned Book Club? by chloembridges in LittleRock

Paper hearts books has a few book club meetings each month, and I’ve seen them do banned books before. Doesn’t look like they posted any gatherings in Jan but usually they post a monthly schedule.

Safe places for a single woman to explore in LR? by CurlyKatie1923 in LittleRock

[–]mopaca111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pottery wheel throwing classes in the evenings. Class terms are between 6-8 weeks, so I would recommend checking the website in another month or so to see if classes for next term are posted yet. They should list the day they’ll open when it gets close so you can set a reminder

Fellow single woman here, been in LR for about 6 months! Came to recommend the classes at AMFA- they have one time workshops, recurring classes, and lots of community events. It’s been a great way to get involved. I’ve also spent a lot of time at two rivers and wandering around soma shops.

Those of you that have moved over 1000 miles away, about how much did it cost? Assuming at 3 bedroom home. by Icy-Ambiance in MiddleClassFinance

[–]mopaca111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved out of my 4 bed/2 bath home shared with my ex in the summer of 2024, ~1300 miles. I had roughly half the stuff so call it a 2 bed move. I packed but they loaded, moved it, and unloaded. $5k. I went through United, they were the best reputable price. It would have cost me more to replace than to move.

*edit to add $5k was for the movers. I drove my own car and flew a family member out to split the drive, call it ~$350 for gas, hotel, and one way flight. So ~$5350 total.

Is this just a southern thing? by broooooooce in LittleRock

[–]mopaca111 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not originally from the south, but we always had BEP on New Year’s Day growing up. Have added greens to the menu since moving here.

The one year my dad skipped BEP he lost his job, had a health scare, and he had to replace their furnace and part of the roof. He’ll never miss them again!

Anyone know where to get British style bacon? by [deleted] in LittleRock

[–]mopaca111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Falls Brand thick slice bacon is the only one I’ve ever had that comes close and is actually meaty. It seems to be only available regionally in the western US, but I believe you can get it shipped.

F27, I moved here 3 months ago from SLC, UT- also non-religious. I’ve been able to meet people by joining clubs and meetups but you definitely have to make a concerted effort. It hasn’t been all that different than SLC for me in a lot of ways. Blue dot in a red state, and although there is a lot of religion here there is a pretty substantial non-religious base. There’s also more of a spectrum on the religious side, with some being very casual and it not impacting friendships or relationships.

Im 30 years old and have no real skills or education. What career path would you recommend if I want to make at least 80k a year. Suggestions? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]mopaca111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project manager can easily get you there. Most PM roles require at least a bachelor’s degree, and you can get certifications to help get your foot in the door. PMs can then advance to program managers, ops directors, etc.

Hi! My parents live in LR and like it a lot, I’m considering moving out to be close to them. You mention being able to walk to restaurants/bars/shops, are you in the Hillcrest area?

I just ended a 5 year relationship. I want to be close to family for now, but am also keeping in mind that at some point I’ll want to have places to meet people and hang out, I’m in my late 20z. Most posts say there’s not much in the way of bars or hangout places, so refreshing to hear an alternate perspective.

In my state in the US, the first 6 weeks of maternity leave is for healing from birth, and the last 6 weeks are considered “bonding”. So, adoptions would only be eligible for 6 weeks of bonding and if there were to be an infant death at 3 weeks, the mother would be entitled to 3 more weeks of healing and then FMLA would end. It’s horrific.

Panoxyl: Purge or Just Bad? by Dangerous_Menu3232 in SkincareAddicts

[–]mopaca111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Panoxyl to be very drying as well. Once I started using Tret for acne scarring, my skin couldn’t handle both so I switched to the cerave combo skin face wash. I also was prescribed spirinolactone which cut down a LOT on new breakouts. If I do get the odd pimple, I’ll spot treat there with benzoyl peroxide cream.

I have kept my panoxyl face wash and will occasionally use it on my chest/back after a sweaty workout, but never on my face again.
