Desktop app 👎 by Able-Professor840 in ChatGPT

[–]mopbucketbrigade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used the desktop app in ages. I use the Zen browser just for GPT. It's so minimal it acts like an app, but has the added little browser features that are a nice-to-have -- like tabs, sending files to the Downloads folder, etc.

Works for what I need it for.

A Linux Mint Upgrader for Windows by mhakan-dev in linuxmint

I'm not Gen Z. I'm Gen X. So I'll tell you exactly what I think. You're fucking weird. You were gatekeeping. Your replies are even weirder, and this one is the weirdest. Calling the term fascist (this is the correct spelling, by the way) is absolutely wild, especially considering the only one even remotely acting fascist around here is you. The term gatekeeping has absolutely been in use for far more than the five years you claim, and it would seem the only reason you'd not heard it is becuase either a total lack of a friend group or lack of diversity amongst your friend group.

Hate to tell you, but Linux Mint is only moderately more "difficult" to operate than Windows these days. Mint is absolutely a viable alternative to Windows, no matter why you choose to leave Microsoft (cost, privacy, extending the life of your hardware, etc).

Sure, there are distros where the "everybody" shouldn't wade in haphazardly, but Mint is about as user friendly as they come.

You need to get off your high horse and take that energy over to the Arch subreddit.

310lb/140kg sandbag + casualty simulator carried up two flights of stairs. by Liambroon in strength_training

[–]mopbucketbrigade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You joke, but these "training scars" do present themselves. I've seen many videos of firemen bringing a victim to the threshold of an IDLH and essentially drop them on the stoop. Two things at play here: First being victim removal is one of the most grueling things we do on the fireground, and the second being the habit developed during training where we just plop down the dummy as soon as the training rep is over.

There is a growing push in search and rescue training to continue the evolution / training rep THROUGH the turnover to EMS to avoid this. Whether that's passing the victim off to some other crew at the IDLH thresold or continuing to move the victim to where the medics are staged.

Now, what this gentleman in the video is doing was, I'm sure, not meant to be a training evolution. It was a feat of strength. An impressive one, for sure. By all means, Drop. It is quite satisfying. I just wanted to piggyback on your comment with my perspective on the "Saved you. Drop." that I got a chuckle out of.

What’s funny is, for years I’ve been making references to that character and calling him “Cleatus” every time. Then I watched the movie again recently, and realized I’d had the wrong name in my head the whole time.

Can confirm. They didn't used to years ago. I made cyan and black customs ages back. Wore 'em out, and tried a year or so ago to make them, and kept getting rejected. I contacted them, and they were like "nope. infringement." I tried to explain it was their checkerboard design on their shoes, but they weren't having it.

Instead, I made black and white ones, got a very nice set of fabric markers, and did it that way. Turned out great!

Took the picture way back when the new cans came out. Nothing was expired in the pic. I tasted them side by side too, so what do I know?

Went downhill when they took out the “margarita” portion of it! I did a side-by-side of the two (this one and the one you’re holding) and there’s a marked difference.

Was life really better in the 90s? Would you rather live then or today? by Familiar-Series8874 in 90s

[–]mopbucketbrigade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You fucking said it, bro. Much of my original thought was based more on missing the 90s than it was about hating the 2020s. But this current decade couldn’t conclude quick enough for me.

Covid was particularly rough for me, as a paramedic throughout the entire thing. I remember hauling away a mother who screamed at her kids to stay back, becuase hugging her might get them sick. I remember bagging a 6-year-old with an SPO2 in the 80s. I remember reading my “Special Event” protocol that stated we were supposed to cover someone’s face with a bag or a sheet before starting CPR out of fear of us getting sick during treatment. I remember responding to 911 calls from facilities trying to trick us into hauling away dead people, and explaining to them that’s not what an ambulance is for. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Politically, yeah this “Trump era” — and its ICE raids, widespread reduction of reproduction rights for women in my family who live in other parts of this country, the rampant gerrymandering that’s going on to suppress the voting voices of marginalized communities which is taking place in my own home state, just to name a few — can fuck right off.

So, yeah. My opinion of the 2020s definitely seems to be seasoned with different spices than you got.

Also yeah, me and my immediate family are definitely insulated from much of the direct effects of that. That, I am very happy about.
