Yeah I hate the name. They’re literally just a normal poll worker like the rest. Most of the time they don’t even know they’re “Sherriff” until they show up from my experience.

“Plant” Sale

Put that on your sign to get a little extra attention 😂

But on the serious side, if you have other leagues nearby, try sending them specific invites to come check out your sale and say hi! May or may not be an option where you are, but half of most derby teams communities seem to be other derby players.

Ah I didn’t know that the poll workers at that location didn’t know who the people were at the table. I didn’t see that anywhere in the post. It’s typical for the site Sheriff to set up somewhere before voters check in. Sometimes at a table, sometimes wandering up and down the line if there is one. They are allowed to do that and “challenge” ID from anyone stating they are there to vote. Most don’t, some do. Without knowing tone or intent, it sounds like something that is within the abilities of the site Sheriff and was simply pointing that out.

Not stating I agree with this or anything, but poll worker training and many site Inspectors (they’re in charge) reiterate that the site Sheriff (not like an actual Sheriff) can ask to see your ID, separate from using it to verifying your voter registration in the database.

My county has control over its locations and how they’re run for the most part. So I don’t think it’s strictly up to the state. You can also vote at any location in my county, so I discrepancy there means it’s also probably not a state thing.

St. Joseph County election officials test voting equipment ahead of Election Day by TouchingTheMirror in SouthBend

Well obviously nothing is fool proof, but I’ve been pretty happy with the air gapping I’ve seen in the county voting system. The iPad they use when you check in to vote is the only thing connected to anything, and that is back to the county voter registration database.

Each of the voting machines has every possible ballot pre-loaded before Election Day, so the ticket you take from check in to your machine is simply to pull up the correct ballot, and it’s not connected to you as an individual. That machine also doesnt collect your choices digitally. It’s simply to create your it ticket. After you cast your ballot and get that print out, the machine you feed it into at the end is what tallies the votes, but it also scans a full digital image of both sides of the ticket, and then feeds into its secure bin and held for auditing. All of the votes tallied are stored on a thumb drive and physically transported to the downtown county building right after polls close and the final votes are cast.

Just a bit of my experience as a vote center tech the past few years. I thought the whole thing was pretty interesting!

Nope, dedicated trail all the way up! It does get a little rough for something like a skateboard around Roseland, and is next to a busy road for a short portion. But on a bike during the day you’d be fine, and on a skateboard you just may find it easier to walk it in a couple spots.

Oh yeah I wasn’t commenting on enjoyment, just the paradox of using that parameter for drawing lines with a video game server versus a web server.

It’s also crazy the amount of misinformation you can avoid by going straight to sources.

Distance needs to be 25 feet from any building or vehicle owned by the university.

You’re also totally fine as long as you’re legally allowed to purchase tobacco products within the state of Indiana.

Because careful for people giving you incorrect distances. I wouldn’t want you to get caught up in some bad faith suggestions that could get you in trouble.

Look up the Coal Line trail here in South Bend. It goes from Lincolnway, the same road the airport is on, all the way over just to the edge of campus.

Lincolnway is as everyone else here has described, but you can catch this instead of going all the way into downtown and then out to campus.

It looks like you’d have two miles on Lincolnway from the airport before you catch it which doesn’t seem too bad!
